Living Funeral
Mr. Hu finally realized what had happened, continuously calling out for his father, but the Old Man no longer responded.
Now this was a disaster—death upon death; the Old Man had hanged himself.
But was it really that simple? The Old Man hanged himself, but why in his granddaughter's room? Perhaps the arrangement for the Yin Marriage was unsatisfactory. Or maybe there was something wrong with the Yin Marriage itself.
After the Yin Marriage ceremony, the male corpse is hung above the female's doorframe. This situation is truly eerie and quite frightening.
At this moment, Mr. Hu's face turned pale with fear. I said to him, "Once a person dies, they cannot come back. Please accept your sorrow and prepare for the arrangements." That was all I could offer.
Suddenly, Mr. Hu grabbed me and asked, "How could he just die?"
I squatted down to examine the Old Man's body; his forehead and lips were darkened, his eyelids rolled back, and most alarmingly, his mouth couldn't close. Seeing this, I knew he had been possessed by a ghost.
I told Mr. Hu, "Prepare for the arrangements; don't think too much about it. I'll come back later."
Mr. Hu lamented that he should have taken his father to the hospital; if someone had been there to care for him, he wouldn't have died. I asked why he hadn’t taken him. He replied that the Old Man stubbornly refused to go and wanted to spend time with his granddaughter. You must understand, she is our only child, cherished like a precious gem.
Now that my daughter is gone, did my father lose hope and choose to end his life?
I didn't respond to him. At that moment, Mrs. Hu also came upstairs. Upon seeing the Old Man's body, she immediately burst into tears.
We left after saying we would return later that night.
Gao Ling asked, "Fei, have you figured anything out?"
I simply replied that the Old Man's death was definitely not that simple. I said, "What you did is a violation of moral integrity." At this point, Gao Ling's expression had already turned grim.
Zhao Fan said, "Brother Fei, it's not that serious."
I responded, "Whether it’s serious or not, you know in your heart. This time, the male corpse from the Yin Marriage was hung in the other party's house. If that's not serious, then what is?"
Zhao Fan fell silent at my words.
Gao Ling said, "We were told not to do this from the beginning, but Fang Ge wouldn’t listen!"
Zhao Fan retorted, "You didn’t seem to think it was a big deal when we were dividing the money!"
I told them to stop arguing and said, "Let's prepare some things and see if the deceased will appear."
Gao Ling and Zhao Fan exchanged glances and fell silent. We went to gather some Black Dog Blood and cinnabar. We waited until evening before heading to Mr. Hu's house. As we reached the door, I felt the Yin Qi intensify.
As soon as we entered, a chilling breeze swept past us; it was eerie. I paused and didn’t move forward immediately.
That’s when I saw her—the woman in red. Her sudden appearance genuinely surprised me. It had been a while since she last showed up; I wondered where she had been.
The woman in red stared at me and called out my name, Chen Lang. I acknowledged her with a slight hum and said, "I'll see you later; I'm here to handle something." She quickly agreed and then vanished.
As we entered the house, we heard crying and caught a whiff of a foul odor.
Inside, Ghost Money was burning, its scent permeating the air, but I could still detect the stench of decay. Could Old Man's body already be starting to rot?
I began to search the place, and it turned out there was a Spirit Tent set up in the room, with a coffin placed inside. I walked in but didn’t smell any decay there.
Could the Decaying Smell not be coming from here?
I continued to sniff around when Gao Ling asked me, "Fei, what are you smelling?"
I replied, "Don't you smell that foul odor?"
Gao Ling said, "That shouldn't be possible! This person died suddenly; they wouldn't decompose this quickly."
I headed upstairs after getting Mr. Hu's permission. I asked, "Can I go up and take a look?" Mr. Hu agreed, so I ascended to the upper floor of this wealthy person's villa, which was originally quite serene.
As I sniffed around, I quickly pinpointed the source of the stench.
It seemed to be emanating from the deceased's room. Gao Ling informed me, "This female college student is named Hushan, twenty-one years old; she apparently died in a car accident."
The door was unlocked. As I pushed it open, I bumped into two legs. Damn! I was startled and quickly stepped back. What on earth is this? The room was dimly lit by the hallway lights.
It was a pair of dead legs, with "corpse water" dripping down from them.
The foul smell quickly permeated the air as I turned on my phone's flashlight and stepped into the room. Once the light was on, I saw a corpse hanging inside.
I gasped, covering my mouth and nose. After finding the switch to turn on the lights, I was confronted with a decaying body.
Gao Ling glanced at it and said, "Isn't this that guy?"
"Which guy?" I asked.
Gao Ling replied, "The one who was paired for Yin Marriage."
Zhao Fan hadn't even stepped inside yet. Since it was for Yin Marriage, the body had to be intact. After a simple 'funeral marriage' ceremony, the two would be buried together in one coffin; that was the process of Yin Marriage.
This corpse had been brought out multiple times, clearly indicating that Hushan didn't want this male corpse sharing a coffin with him.
I asked Gao Ling, "Is it true that after the body was hung at the door, you all brought it back again?"
Gao Ling nodded. Yes, he really wanted to curse them for being idiots; even a fool could see there was something wrong, yet they still went ahead with it a second time. But now that they had done it, the body was already bloated and rotting.
I told Gao Ling and Zhao Fan to take action and remove the corpse. I grabbed a bedsheet and wrapped the body in it while Zhao Fan and Gao Ling lifted it and headed downstairs.
I stayed in the room for a moment longer.
Looking around, I suddenly heard laughter—an intermittent, strange sound that sent chills down my spine.
But in this house, I saw no one, yet it felt as if someone was blowing a cold wind by my ear. I took out my Hundred Ghosts Diagram and said, "When a person dies and becomes a ghost, you should not disturb the lives of those who are still alive."
The cold laughter grew increasingly chilling, sending a shiver down my spine.
Damn it, it seemed that Hushan was indeed in this room, yet he refused to show himself.
However, the laughter gradually faded away.
The chill in the room receded entirely, and I felt a cold sweat forming in my palms. I went downstairs and told Gao Ling that we should head to Hushan's grave now.
I turned to Zhao Fan and said, "Take this male corpse for cremation and ensure a proper burial."
Zhao Fan asked, "What are you going to do?"
I replied, "We are going to check the graveyard."
As I was leaving, I closed the door to Hushan's room, sealed it with several pieces of yellow paper, and wrote the word "Decree" in my blood.
I told Mr. Hu's family, "From now on, no one is allowed to enter Hushan's room."
Mr. Hu's expression changed as he asked, "Why?"
I replied, "If you don't want to die, then don't go in."
I suddenly felt that this Hushan was here for revenge; this Yin Marriage was poorly arranged! I asked Gao Ling, "Is it confirmed that the deceased died from being hit by a car?"
Gao Ling replied, "I'm not sure either. That's just what the family says. When I saw the body, it had already been made up for the funeral, so I couldn't tell how they died."
I nodded. Zhao Fan had already left, and I got into Gao Ling's car to head toward the cemetery.
The cemetery was located in a remote area, not in an official graveyard but rather in the mountains of a suburban area. This villa was already in the suburbs, and since there were many mountains around, it made sense to bury someone nearby. Having a Yin Marriage was not something to be proud of.
I could understand why they didn't choose a public cemetery.
I said to Gao Ling, "You guys have gone a bit too far this time."
Gao Ling sighed, "I didn't want this either. Next time, I won't do this again, no matter what. This time we were tricked by Zhao Fan."
But now it was too late for regrets. We quickly arrived at Hushan's grave. Gao Ling and I began to dig, and soon we had opened the grave. After we uncovered it, Gao Ling said, "Something's not right!"
I asked, "What's wrong?"
Gao Ling replied, "It seems like the coffin has been switched."
