Living Funeral
I said to Gao Ling, "You can't be serious!"
Gao Ling replied, "Of course I'm not joking! That previous coffin cost tens of thousands! This one is only a couple of thousand. Do you think the coffin that was supposed to hold two bodies can still fit two with this material?"
I shook my head; indeed, this coffin was only suitable for one person.
Could it be that Hushan changed the coffin himself? No, would Hushan really switch out his own coffin? And to replace a tens-of-thousands coffin with one that costs only a couple of thousand?
Suddenly, I thought of someone—Zhao Fan. It had to be that scoundrel Zhao Fan who switched the coffin for money.
It was highly likely.
I said to Gao Ling, "Zhao Fan changed the coffin, didn't he?"
We had been tricked by him before, and it was clear this time was no different. After I finished speaking, Gao Ling furiously said, "Fei, I hadn't even thought of that! Now that you mention it, it definitely has to be that bastard Zhao Fan."
She pulled out her phone and called Zhao Fan.
However, after just a few sentences on the call, Gao Ling started arguing with Zhao Fan. After their heated exchange, the call ended abruptly.
Gao Ling said, "Fei, you're right; it really was that bastard who did this."
Zhao Fan truly had a black heart. Looking back now, he always sent us to do dangerous things and then took a cut of the profits afterward.
"Damn it," I couldn't help but curse. I told Gao Ling not to associate with that guy anymore; he wasn't a good person. Gao Ling said that this time I finally saw Zhao Fan's true colors.
Zhao Fan really did something despicable!
After venting about Zhao Fan, our anger subsided a bit. That bastard would do anything for money. I jumped into the pit and directly called for the coffin. A foul smell wafted out from inside. I glanced at the corpse and found it completely blackened, already beginning to rot.
The face had long lost its original form.
I said to Gao Ling, "Since Hushan doesn't like the original Yin Marriage partner, let's just break off this Yin Marriage."
Gao Ling asked, "How do we break it?"
I shook my head, unsure. If I knew how to break it, that would be great. Right now, the Taoist wasn't by my side, and Zhang Xun wasn't here either. In this regard, I was basically a novice who knew nothing.
I took out my phone and called Zhang Xun, initially just trying my luck. If I couldn't get through, I'd have Gao Ling call his sister instead.
As soon as the call connected, someone answered. I called out to Zhang Xun.
Zhang Xun responded on the other end. I said, "I've run into some trouble over here; can you come over?"
Zhang Xun agreed and quickly I provided him with the address.
After hanging up, I told Gao Ling to wait for Zhang Xun to arrive.
Gao Ling made a sound of acknowledgment. It was around nine in the evening when I emerged from the grave pit. The two of us stood outside, smoking and waiting for someone. By about ten o'clock, Zhang Xun called.
Gao Ling and I went out to meet him.
Zhao Fan didn't come over, probably feeling awkward after the conflict. Since he wasn't coming, we decided not to worry about it.
I briefly explained the situation to Zhang Xun.
After listening, Zhang Xun's expression changed slightly. He then said we needed to move the coffin, change the grave pit, and dress the body again. It would be best to clean the body thoroughly before changing its clothes.
After hearing Zhang Xun's words, I replied, "The body has already decayed to that extent; do we really need to give it a bath?"
Zhang Xun nodded and said, "Yin Marriage is better to be established than dissolved!"
I had nothing more to say. Gao Ling's expression also changed at this point as she remarked that bathing the body should be something that bastard Zhao Fan should handle.
I turned to Zhang Xun and asked if we should do it now.
Zhang Xun shook his head and said, "The preparations aren't ready yet. Let's do it tomorrow night." After saying this, he placed three coins in front of the grave, inserting three incense sticks into the coin holes. However, the incense was not lit.
Once everything was set up, Zhang Xun instructed us to fill in the dirt. After we finished filling in the soil, we left the site.
Zhang Xun told me to get some sleep and prepare glutinous rice water for soaking the body tomorrow night. The clothes should be entirely black, and we also needed to burn a few sets of clothing as offerings.
We three left, and Gao Ling took out her phone to call Mr. Hu. After giving a few brief instructions, she hung up.
Zhang Xun then asked, "Who did you call?"
Gao Ling replied, and I suddenly remembered that Old Man had hanged himself in the deceased's room. It was eerie; I had even heard strange laughter in her room.
Zhang Xun nodded and said, "This matter can't be delayed too long, or more people will die."
We returned to Gao Ling's house, where there was always glutinous rice available. So, we soaked the aged glutinous rice in preparation for the next day.
Gao Ling arranged a room for Zhang Xun. Although Zhang Xun had some reservations about Gao Ling, he didn't voice any complaints at that moment.
Soon, we took showers and went to bed. Not long after I returned to my room, the woman in red appeared.
The woman in red gently called out to me, "Chen Lang." I responded, and she sat beside me. I asked her, "Where have you been lately?"
The woman in red told me, "Chen Lang, when you went to Snake Skin Gully, I didn't dare to approach because Zhang Xun and Gao Qing were there. After that, you were always with them, so I didn't come."
I nodded to show that I understood.
The woman in red asked me, "Chen Lang, have you been okay these days?" I replied that everything was fine.
Just like that, the woman in red and I slept together. In the middle of the night, my phone started ringing incessantly. Damn it! Who is calling me at this hour?
I reached for my phone and pressed the answer button.
Soon, a panicked voice came through the line, shouting for help. "Brother Fei, you need to come save me!"
I recognized the voice immediately; it was Zhao Fan's. His tone was frantic. "What happened?" I asked.
"Fei, help me! I'm at home..." Zhao Fan replied.
I said "hello" again, asking what was going on, but there was no response on the other end. I sat up quickly from my bed and rushed out. The woman in red asked me what was wrong.
I told her that something had happened to Zhao Fan.
I hurriedly woke up Gao Ling and the others, saying that there was trouble.
Zhang Xun and Gao Ling quickly woke up and asked what was going on. I told them to hurry to Zhao Fan's house; something was happening.
We set off quickly towards Zhao Fan's place. His home had a crematorium, and it seemed like he had been involved in some shady dealings that were now catching up with him.
I said to Zhang Xun and Gao Ling, "It seems like Hushan has targeted Zhao Fan." I worried that Zhang Xun might not understand who Hushan was, so I added, "Hushan is the deceased."
Gao Ling chimed in, "This is all retribution!"
I replied, "Let's not waste time talking; we need to check the scene." We soon arrived at Zhao Fan's hideout, but as soon as we got there, a strong smell of blood hit us. As we moved forward, we saw a body. I recognized it immediately; it was Zhao Fan's brother.
There was more than one dead body.
Zhao Fan had about seven or eight subordinates, and now three corpses had already been seen.
I called out for Zhao Fan, but there was no response. Zhao Fan's darkened lair was a courtyard, but the buildings were all makeshift structures made of asbestos tiles. So it was quite rudimentary.
Gao Ling remarked that this was truly retribution.
However, Hushan's methods were indeed ruthless; they killed the living without hesitation. At this moment, everything here was eerily quiet, with no sounds at all.
I thought to myself, could it be that I arrived too late and everyone was already dead?
I took out my phone and called Zhao Fan. The call connected quickly, but no one answered.
We moved forward and soon discovered a phone on the table. Next to the table was a bed, and lying on it was a person. I called out once, but he had covered himself with a blanket. Seeing this scene left me momentarily stunned.
Back then, Zhang Fatty and the others had pretended to be dead in the same way; now Zhao Fan was doing the same. Was there something wrong?
I called out again, but still received no response. So I approached and lifted the blanket.
