Living Funeral
As I watched them approach, a sense of panic began to rise within me. I turned to Zhang Xun and said, "We should retreat."
Zhang Xun replied, "Retreat where?"
I responded that it didn’t matter where we retreated to; the area was open, and we could run in any direction. We just couldn’t stay here.
However, Zhang Xun said, "Don’t run; it’s too late to escape."
I countered, "How would we know unless we try?"
Zhang Xun insisted that there was no point in trying something that had no chance of success. He suggested that I should just kill the Old Witch; our chances of survival would be greater that way. At this moment, Zhang Xun seemed to have calmed down somewhat as the people in front of us stopped about two or three meters away.
I glanced at the figures behind the Old Witch; they didn’t look like living beings at all.
The Old Witch then fixed her gaze on me and said, "I’ve been looking for you for a long time." However, her face was Axiang's, which made me feel uneasy.
The Old Witch stared at me intently, as if she wanted to devour me. Zhang Xun stepped forward and said, "Old Witch, what happened back then is in the past. If you lay a hand on him again, it won’t end well for you."
I felt a chill run down my spine under the Old Witch's gaze.
At that moment, I noticed Zhang Xun clenching his fists; it was clear he was also quite tense.
The Old Witch snorted coldly and said, "Do you think your words carry weight here?" After she spoke, Zhang Xun's expression changed slightly as he replied, "If you intend to harm him, Jiang Changsheng won’t allow it."
Suddenly, without warning, the Old Witch burst into laughter. Her voice was icy as she continued, "You think he can come out? After all these years, he might already be dead. Just because his name is Changsheng doesn’t mean he can live forever." The tone of the Old Witch shifted abruptly to one filled with resentment.
Zhang Xun's expression turned grim as he said, "Jiang Changsheng will definitely not die so easily."
"So what? If you have the ability, show him to me," came the retort.
After those words, Zhang Xun found himself at a loss for words, as he truly did not know Jiang Changsheng's whereabouts. The Old Witch then turned to me and said, "Aged—no, you are called Chen Fei now. It's time to return what you took from me back then."
I was equally bewildered. However, after she finished speaking, I suddenly felt a surge of anger that made me spit out blood.
Zhang Xun asked me what was wrong.
I shook my head in confusion; this feeling was reminiscent of the first night I met the Old Witch. After a moment, I told Zhang Xun, "The Old Witch has likely done something to me."
At that moment, Zhang Xun's face grew even more troubled. The Old Witch approached me, and the expressionless figures behind her followed suit. I stepped back, feeling uneasy.
"Damn it, what are these things?" Gao Ling exclaimed.
But no one could answer him at that moment. I spoke up and asked, "What do you want from me?"
The Old Witch replied, "Of course, it's your lifespan."
I felt puzzled; I was twenty-two this year. If I calculated correctly, I could live until seventy, which meant I had about fifty years left. But even if I did have that time left, could she really take it from me?
Zhang Xun turned to Gao Ling and asked, "Is your car fixed?"
Gao Ling shook his head; it wouldn't be repaired anytime soon. Zhang Xun wiped the cold sweat from his brow and said, "Then we’ll just have to rely on ourselves tonight." At that moment, he had already drawn his Peach Wood Sword, and I pulled out my Hundred Ghosts Diagram.
Gao Ling grabbed a wrench and a talisman he had taken back from Gao Qing.
The ethereal singing continued to drift through the air like a lament. The Old Witch waved her hand, and the people behind her charged toward us. Although I was frightened, I had no better options and could only brace myself.
Could surviving be merely a matter of luck? From the way they fought, it was clear that those well-dressed figures were ghosts, not humans.
The Hundred Ghosts Diagram could harm them, and Gao Ling's talisman could also injure these spirits.
However, we couldn't gain much of an advantage; there were too many ghosts, and most of them were coming straight for me. While the Hundred Ghosts Diagram could hurt them, it was still a case of being outnumbered! Soon enough, I found myself pinned to the ground by the ghosts.
Fortunately, these spirits were well-dressed and looked relatively decent; they weren't as terrifying as I had expected.
Once they had me pinned down, they dragged me toward the Old Witch.
Zhang Xun rushed over to try to save me but was blocked by the ghosts. Gao Ling was also caught by them. The entire street was filled with spirits; we truly had no way to escape.
Just like that, I was brought before the Old Witch, who looked at me with a cold smile.
Zhang Xun struggled to get closer, but the Old Witch sneered at him, saying, "You really don't know your place. Do you think I won't kill you?" As soon as she finished speaking, several pieces of red paper floated toward Zhang Xun, ensnaring him in an instant.
I shouted, "What do you want with me?"
The Old Witch replied, "Don't be anxious; I'll settle accounts with you shortly."
As soon as she finished speaking, those pieces of red paper landed on Zhang Xun. The next moment, he let out a terrible scream before collapsing to the ground in a heap.
Panicking, I rushed toward Zhang Xun, but the ghosts held me tightly; I couldn't break free. I yelled at the Old Witch, "If anything happens to him, I swear I won't let you get away with it."
I was truly furious at that moment. Gao Ling shouted as well, "Neither will I!"
However, after Gao Ling finished speaking, she also fainted. At that moment, I was the only one still awake on this road. I turned to the Old Witch and said, "Damn it, if you have the guts, just kill me. Even as a ghost, I won't let you off."
Hearing my furious shout, the Old Witch laughed, her lips twitching with amusement.
If anything happened to Gao Ling and Zhang Xun, I would definitely not let her go; I was serious about that.
The Old Witch stopped laughing and said to me, "You might want to stop worrying about them and start caring about yourself!"
I replied to the Old Witch, "I'll take care of it."
After I spoke, the Old Witch paused for a moment before saying that they weren't dead; they had just fainted.
Upon hearing this, my expression softened a bit. I said, "It’s best if that’s true."
The Old Witch seemed to chuckle bitterly a few times. I thought she might be somewhat afraid of me, but soon I realized I was wrong. The Old Witch circled around behind me, and I felt uneasy not knowing what she was up to.
Then she started humming a tune behind me. This time I could confirm it was her humming, and it sent chills down my spine.
I asked, "What are you doing? What are you up to behind me?"
But she didn’t respond at all; she just kept humming. Suddenly, I felt something tear at my clothes. Slowly, a cold object began sliding down my back—very cold. My body started to tremble uncontrollably.
Yet I still had no idea what the Old Witch was doing behind me. Before long, I felt her arms wrap around me.
Damn it! Although she had Axiang's face now, I had seen her true form before—it was an old woman. So having her embrace me made me feel nauseous.
I said, "Let go of me."
The Old Witch said, "What will you do if I don't let go?" At that moment, her tone was surprisingly playful.
Hearing her voice made me even more uncomfortable. Just imagine an elderly woman suddenly acting coy towards you; it would feel extremely bizarre.
The Old Witch's hands were roaming around my chest area. What the hell are you doing?
She continued, "I just love the scent of you. Do you know how long I've been thinking about you?"
I was speechless.
After her words, I felt a chill run down my spine.
I gasped and replied, "I don't like older women!"
The Old Witch retorted, "Do I look like an older woman to you? Look at my chest, my face, and tell me where I resemble an older woman."
I had no interest in looking; all I felt was a cold dread inside me. I said to the Old Witch, "Just give me a straight answer."
She pressed against my back, inhaling deeply, then said, "Alright." After those simple words fell from her lips, I suddenly felt a chill on my back, followed by a scream escaping my mouth...
