Living Funeral
"Looks like I wasn't wrong; something has indeed gone wrong. What kind of scheme has the Master devised against you?" Lin Xue said.
"That's right!" I thought. That damned Taoist couldn't resist taking action against me. A hint of anxiety crossed Lin Xue's face as she urged, "Chen Lang, you need to come with me."
I asked, "Where to?"
"Of course, we need to leave here. The Master will definitely not let you go," Lin Xue replied, reaching out to grab my wrist, trying to pull me away. I felt a bit panicked and asked her again where we were going. Lin Xue insisted we return to where we started.
I still had some feelings for Lin Xue, and in this situation, I could only grasp at straws. I followed her as she led the way forward, but I told her I could walk on my own. She released my hand, and we were surrounded by wild grass and trees.
As we walked, I realized I had no sense of direction, but Lin Xue seemed to know the way, guiding me ahead. However, after a while, all sounds behind us faded away into silence.
I turned to Lin Xue and said, "Maybe we should stop. We've been walking for so long without finding an exit, and since the Taoist hasn't caught up with us, it should be fine now."
But Lin Xue refused to stop. She held onto my hand and continued forward, warning me not to let my guard down. If the Master came after us, it would be too late. I took a deep breath; blood still stained my face as we pressed on. The trees on either side grew taller and denser.
The trees formed a narrow path between them, and the moonlight was blocked out, casting a deeper darkness around us.
After walking for a while longer, I halted in my tracks. It felt like we were heading deeper into the forest rather than toward an exit. I said to Lin Xue, "I'm not going any further."
"Why not?" she asked.
I explained that continuing forward might lead to trouble. "Lin Xue," I said, "it's not that I don't trust you; I just think it's unnecessary to keep going."
"But Chen Lang," she insisted, "you really don't trust me."
After experiencing so many deceptions and schemes, I was truly panicked. I glanced at Lin Xue and thought about the Lin Xue in Dead Man's Cave. I felt something was off about her, so this time I didn't hesitate and turned to run. But behind me, I heard Lin Xue's voice asking, "Why are you running, Chen Lang?"
I didn't answer Lin Xue; it would be foolish not to run. Moving deeper inside felt like heading straight into a den of ghosts.
I didn't care what Lin Xue was like at that moment; I knew there was no way forward. However, after running for just a few minutes, I heard someone say, "Where are you running to?" At that moment, I saw a Taoist approaching me.
Then came Lin Xue again. Something felt wrong. The Taoist was holding a weasel in his hand, blood still on his lips. He said, "I didn't expect you to outsmart me in the end."
Lin Xue then spoke up, "Taoist, you must keep your word."
The Taoist replied, "Don't worry about that. When I helped you form the Yin Marriage, allowing you to unite with him in life and death, otherwise you wouldn't have survived this long."
Damn it! Hearing this made me realize I'd been fooled from the very beginning. I felt foolish for having been deceived by two ghosts. It seemed there was no escaping this time.
I asked Lin Xue, "Have you been lying to me from the start?"
Lin Xue replied, "What else could it be? Back in Dead Man's Cave, I was almost afraid you'd die. Luckily, you didn't. Now that we've united in life and death, I've gotten what I wanted; it's just that the process was too slow, so I sped things up to get what I desired all at once."
My heart sank; it seemed I'd truly been tricked. Yet, I had genuinely developed feelings for Lin Xue. The Taoist said, "Accept your fate, Chen Fei."
The weasel chimed in breathlessly, "Accept your fate? You want him to accept his fate? What a joke."
"Shut up," the Taoist snapped.
I cursed under my breath and ran towards the forest without hesitation. The woods were darker, making it nearly impossible to see the path. After a short while, I stumbled several times. It hurt like hell; those bastards had deceived me.
I got up from the ground, my exposed skin already scratched by thorns, but the voice behind me lingered like a shadow, refusing to fade away.
Eventually, I could run no more, exhausted to the bone. Lin Xue quickly blocked my path, while the Taoist stood behind me, saying, "Run! Why aren't you running?"
"If I run, then you run too," I cursed under my breath.
At that moment, the Taoist threw the weasel onto the ground and walked toward me. The weasel said, "It seems you haven't recovered yet."
A chill ran down my spine as I felt cold sweat forming in my palms. There was no way out. Lin Xue said to me, "Chen Lang, just consider this a favor for me; it wouldn’t be in vain for our past friendship."
After saying that, Lin Xue wasted no time and came straight for me. Her hostility was much stronger than before. She said, "Chen Lang, I haven't even tasted you since you changed bodies! Let me have a taste now."
My scalp tingled with fear, and my heart sank.
I inhaled sharply as Lin Xue pinned me to the ground. Since it had come to this, I decided not to hold back either. I took out my Hundred Ghosts Chart, but before it could get close to Lin Xue, she seized my hand. With a cold smile, she said, "Chen Lang, I know all your habits and tricks. Just give up struggling."
I thought to myself… Damn it, after following me for so long, Lin Xue surely knew me inside out. It made my heart ache a little. I had been deceived for so long; how foolish of me to help keep it hidden.
The Taoist urged, "Stop wasting time and act quickly."
The weasel made a sound at that moment. Was it really going to end like this?
I thought the same thing—was it really going to end here? Lin Xue's hands tore through my chest. Yin-Yang Fate! Today, I will throw your balance into chaos. Chen Lang, die! At that moment, Lin Xue's voice turned terrifying.
Yet still, I felt a pang of heartache. From a certain perspective, Lin Xue was my first love. To be killed by her now truly hurt deep inside.
I endured the pain as he tore open my chest, the sensation of agony instantly spreading to every corner of my body. Just then, a scene flashed through my mind: a figure crawling out from a pile of corpses, smiling, smiling...
My consciousness began to blur, and a voice echoed in my head, "Chen Fei, after so many years of silence, are you not going to come out? What about your Yin-Yang Technique? Your Fate Reversal Book? Your Bagua, your compass?"
"Chen Fei, it’s time," the pain made it hard for me to breathe; I felt increasingly uncomfortable. At the same time, the image of that person crawling out from the pile of corpses reappeared in my mind, his features somewhat hazy but his smile radiant.
I sensed something circulating within me, an interplay of Yin and Yang, a warm feeling enveloping me.
I wondered if the Yin Qi and Yang Qi were beginning to become unbalanced. In an instant, countless memories flooded my mind; after switching bodies, it felt as though I had brought all the memories of this body with me. The passage of time and the changes in the world flowed through my thoughts like a river.
At that moment, Lin Xue revealed a fierce expression and said to me, "You should die, Chen Fei."
"Stabilize the universe, enact Yin and Yang, traverse the ghostly path, open the Yang Pass, break the Evil Spirit; with my blood, I bind ten thousand souls." As I uttered the last three words, I quickly formed a hand seal. The next second, Lin Xue let out a piercing scream.
Lin Xue's body was sent flying backward as a faint red light radiated from my hands. Once Lin Xue distanced herself from me, I felt somewhat relieved; my hands were already stained red with blood.
The Taoist looked on in shock and asked, "What was that just now?"
Gasping for breath, I slowly crawled up from the ground. At that moment, I felt warmth coursing through my entire body as if a stream of energy was flowing within me.
