Living Funeral
He struck the Bagua Diagram with his palm, causing it to tremble but not shatter. Then, the Bagua Diagram pressed toward Jiang Changsheng, who quickly retreated. The diagram dissipated just ten centimeters in front of him.
Jiang Changsheng came to a halt and suddenly said, "Senior Brother, are you really going to sever ties with me now?"
I replied to Jiang Changsheng, "We cannot collaborate if our paths diverge."
Jiang Changsheng responded, "Senior Brother, you weren't like this before."
I fell silent for a moment, then sighed. "I simply didn't see through your schemes back then. Changsheng, you are no longer the person you used to be. Now, you will stop at nothing to achieve your goals, and that makes you quite unlikable."
Nian Chen said, "Fei, you're right."
Jiang Changsheng forced a smile and asked, "Senior Brother, do you remember what Master told us?"
I replied, "What did he say?"
Jiang Changsheng said, "Master said that once you choose a path, you must walk it unwaveringly. I have been practicing Master's philosophy all these years."
Jiang Changsheng was completely distorting Master's teachings; Master surely meant to persist on the correct path, not to blindly continue down a wrong one.
I chose not to argue with Jiang Changsheng; it would be pointless. I said to him, "Changsheng, turn back."
Jiang Changsheng replied, "I am not in the sea of suffering; why should I turn back? It is you who clings too tightly to your beliefs and shows too much compassion." As he spoke, a mass of black energy formed before him, transforming into a Drifting Dragon that opened its mouth and lunged toward me.
Jiang Changsheng declared, "Since Senior Brother refuses to see reason, don't blame me for being ruthless."
"Nian Chen" couldn't help but shout at me, "Fei, Xin."
The "Bagua Diagram" in front of me had already unfolded. The "Drifting Dragon" crashed into the "Bagua," its massive jaws tearing at the "Bagua Diagram." In the end, the "Bagua Diagram" was completely shredded, and the black "Drifting Dragon" charged toward me. I tried to retreat, but it was too late; the "Drifting Dragon" knocked me back several steps.
A sweet taste filled my throat, and blood trickled from the corner of my mouth. "Nian Chen" walked up to me with concern and asked, "Fei, are you alright?"
I wiped the blood away and replied, "I'm fine."
"Jiang Changsheng" said, "Senior Brother, our master always favored you during his lifetime. Now that we are at his grave, let's see who prevails and who falls short. Perhaps our master misjudged you." At that moment, "Jiang Changsheng" waved his hand, and dark energy surged around him again.
Ghosts filled with resentment appeared, each wielding weapons. I said, "You've really gone this far to refine innocent souls."
"Jiang Changsheng" replied, "Where in this world is there such a thing as an innocent person? It's a survival of the fittest. If I am strong, I control; if I am weak, I willingly become prey. Senior Brother, you can't possibly not understand such a simple truth."
I suddenly asked, "Did you arrange the funeral home incident?"
"Jiang Changsheng" said, "I merely exploited human weaknesses. That Taoist really thought he could extend his life by taking yours; he was too naive."
So you used the Taoist and Li Qiang along with Zhang Cheng to put on a show for me? "Jiang Changsheng" replied, "Don't you realize yet? This is just a game of chess with many pieces, but you are a key piece on the board."
If I hadn't set up this scene, how could you have returned, Senior Brother? That foolish Taoist thought he could control you, which is why he ended up dead.
Thinking back on it now, it truly was like a performance; Zhang and the others were indeed acting. Reflecting on how terrified I had been back then now seemed like a joke. Even if the Taoist had lured me back into this play, what benefit did it bring you?
"Jiang Changsheng" said, "It serves a purpose. Initially, I wanted you to directly open the Yin-Yang Ghost Path. But now it seems that's unlikely. So I'll have to reclaim the yin-yang energy stored within you. Senior Brother, I buried you for a reason."
For a hundred years, I have been cautious and meticulous. I want to take that final step. Senior Brother, if you still consider me your junior, then help me reach the pinnacle.
"Nian Chen," said, "Jiang Changsheng, you really are insane!"
Jiang Changsheng let out a cold laugh, and a vengeful spirit charged toward me. I told Nian Chen to hide behind me. Nian Chen complied, and we quickly retreated. I pressed close to Nian Chen and said, "Look for a chance to escape."
Nian Chen replied, "What about you?"
I said, "You go first; I'll follow."
"Alright, but Fei, you must stay right behind me."
I nodded. The Bagua Diagram in front of me expanded, keeping the spirits at bay. They roared in anger, striking at the Bagua with their weapons, but it held firm. I whispered to Nian Chen that it was time to leave.
Nian Chen agreed and dashed toward the exit. Seeing him attempt to flee, Jiang Changsheng prepared to strike. I called out to Jiang Changsheng, "Our grievances are ours to settle."
"Fine," Jiang Changsheng replied.
Watching Nian Chen safely escape eased my anxious heart. The spirits before me were quickly suppressed and turned to ash by my Bagua Diagram. "Senior Brother," Jiang Changsheng said, "you can't kill them all. For a hundred years, I've cultivated hundreds of thousands of vengeful souls that can crush you at any moment. But today, I plan to defeat you myself."
In an instant, Jiang Changsheng moved swiftly in front of me, tearing through the Bagua Diagram with ease. "One Bagua Diagram isn't enough," he taunted. "You haven't made any progress at all." With that, Jiang Changsheng kicked me in the chest, sending me flying backward and causing me to spit out blood.
My chest felt as if it were set ablaze with unbearable pain as Jiang Changsheng approached with a cold smile. "Today we end this once and for all. Give me your Yin-Yang energy; I'll open the Yin-Yang Ghost Path myself. This is the path I've chosen, and I won't turn back."
As Jiang Changsheng finished speaking, the Forty-Eight Paths of Ten Thousand Ghosts appeared before me.
Jiang Changsheng spoke frankly, saying that perhaps it was effective back then, but now it was too late. The Book of Ten Thousand Ghosts seemed to have been deciphered by him, and it posed no hindrance to him at all. Jiang Changsheng crossed through numerous obstacles and stood right in front of me.
"Brother, accept reality."
As Jiang Changsheng approached, I threw a punch. The True Dragon Qi surged forth, and my fist struck a mass of black mist. The mist instantly dissipated but quickly reformed. True Dragon Qi—it was indeed True Dragon Qi.
Yet, the True Dragon Qi was still insufficient. The Yin Yang Bagua Diagram appeared again, only to be torn apart once more. This diagram was utterly powerless before him; my century-long slumber had been entirely within his grasp, which was why I had become so weak.
In the next moment, Jiang Changsheng reached out and grabbed me—not by my clothes or skin, but directly by my soul. The Forty-Ninth Ghost Script was essentially your soul, wasn't it? Brother, your concealment is truly profound, yet you still couldn't escape my calculations. I had been sleeping beside you for decades just to resonate with your aura. Now, everything should come to an end.
My soul was seized by him; Yin-Yang Fate—your soul seemed just right now.
He forcefully separated my soul from my body, and the pain was incomparable. The sensation crashed over me like a tidal wave; I resisted, but ultimately it was futile.
Survival of the fittest—how true this is. Thus, I could only be killed now. Soon, a mass of black mist surged from his body, enveloping me and drawing me into him. I felt my soul being fragmented.
Opening the Yin-Yang Ghost Path, Yin-Yang Fate was the most suitable. However, Jiang Changsheng lacked Yin-Yang Fate, so he began to devour me, claiming my Yin-Yang Fate as his own. I thought to myself that having such a junior brother truly was terrifying.
Upon further reflection, it sent chills down my spine. But now everything was about to end.
I took a deep breath; I no longer had the strength to resist. Darkness engulfed me, and slowly I felt as if I were entering another soul. My ability to maintain myself seemed doomed; I should now begin merging with Jiang Changsheng's soul. After the fusion, perhaps there would no longer be a person named Chen Fei in this world.
