Upon hearing the news, I was momentarily taken aback and asked her with concern, "Are you alright?"
The Dumeng Princess shook her head and said, "These are all things the shaman told you."
I nodded and replied, "Yes, but why do you look so surprised?"
"It's not that. I've lived in this world for so long, and I've never heard of Yin Hoko or the Yin Pearl. Besides, we don't have many graves here; when someone dies, they simply disappear. We Beastfolk are different from humans," the Dumeng Princess explained.
I understood what she meant; it was possible that she was unaware of these matters.
"Alright, let's head back. It seems the shaman will be speaking with your father for a while," I suggested.
A conflicted expression appeared on the Dumeng Princess's face as she said, "Wait a moment."
At that moment, a Beast Soldier hurried over and said, "Duchess, our borders have been invaded by the Bird Tribe. Please send troops to support the border immediately."
The Dumeng Princess was momentarily stunned, but then anger flashed across her face as she exclaimed, "What a joke! A mere Bird Tribe dares to invade my borders? They must be seeking their own demise. I understand; I'll handle it right away."
With that, the Dumeng Princess immediately followed the Beast Soldier. Seeing this, I followed as well. Could this invasion by the Bird Tribe somehow be related to me?
When we arrived at the border area, I stood beside the Dumeng Princess atop a high wall. Not far away were members of the Bird Tribe.
"Duchess, look over there; some of the bodies lying ahead belong to our Beastfolk and the Bird Tribe," the deputy commander reported to the Dumeng Princess.
The expression on the Dumeng Princess's face grew increasingly fierce as her gaze fixed on the encampment of the Bird Tribe.
"Duchess, should we attack?" the deputy commander asked her.
The Dumeng Princess seemed to be deep in thought. I turned to the deputy commander and said, "You should go down first. I need to speak with the Dumeng Princess. If there's anything you need to relay, I'll let you know."
"Understood, Consort." With that, the deputy commander withdrew.
"I think it's better not to engage with the Bird Tribe," I finally voiced my thoughts. If we could obtain the Yin Pearl from Yin Hoko without resorting to violence, that would indeed be a good outcome.
"You are worried about the Bird Tribe," the Dumeng Princess said, immediately turning to look at me after hearing my words.
"It's not worry; have you forgotten what I told you before?"
The Dumeng Princess's expression grew increasingly grim. "I know, but the Bird Tribe has harmed my beast kin. I cannot let this go unpunished. Bring them here!"
I looked at the Dumeng Princess with a bit of a headache; her temper was explosive.
Before long, the vice commander approached the Dumeng Princess, listening to her orders.
"You must immediately spread the word: declare war on the Bird Tribe! Otherwise, everyone will think my beast kin are easy to bully," the Dumeng Princess said angrily.
"Yes, I will relay your orders right away," the vice commander replied and hurried off to make arrangements.
The Dumeng Princess glanced at me and said, "You stay here and watch. Soon you'll see just how ridiculous the little Bird Tribe is."
My heart sank. If the Bird Tribe went to war with the beast kin, both sides would likely suffer casualties. If other tribes found out, it wouldn't be good for anyone. If one side became dominant, it would be hard to control.
At that moment, the Dumeng Princess had already led her people into battle against the Bird Tribe, and the situation was intense.
I felt a surge of anxiety; however, it seemed that the beast kin were stronger than the Bird Tribe. With the Dumeng Princess in action, many from the Bird Tribe had already fallen.
I worried about what would happen if the resentment between the Bird Tribe and the beast kin deepened further.
Just then, the Beast King arrived with his entourage.
"Where is Dumin?" The Beast King looked at me with a blank expression.
I pointed ahead, and the Beast King immediately grew furious. He summoned the vice commander and said, "You are all being reckless! Who allowed you to engage in battle with the Bird Tribe?"
Seeing how angry the Beast King was, the vice commander trembled slightly as he replied, "Your Majesty, it was the Bird Tribe who attacked us first. We naturally couldn't allow them to bully us."
The Beast King glared at his deputy and said, "You will immediately beat the drums to call for a ceasefire with the Bird Tribe, and then bring out the Dumeng Princess. Just say it is my command."
"Understood." The deputy responded and hurried off.
The Beast King glanced at me with a complex expression, his tone softening as he said, "Please, Consort, follow me."
My heart skipped a beat; the Beast King's sudden change in demeanor was quite surprising. I nodded, feeling a bit anxious as I replied, "Alright."
I followed the Beast King into the military camp. He took his seat at the head of the table and gestured for me to sit beside him, which I did.
"I heard from the shaman that you were once a king in another world, is that correct?" the Beast King suddenly asked.
I nodded and confirmed it. Since the paper wife had already revealed this to the Beast King, there must have been a reason behind it, so I naturally couldn't hide it from him.
"Well then, since that's the case, we are family now. I believe you know what needs to be done, right? The shaman has already informed me. I have come up with an idea that requires little effort while allowing other tribes to direct all their hatred towards the Bird Tribe. What do you think, Consort?" The Beast King looked at me.
His face was calm, making it hard to read his thoughts. However, given what he had just said, even if I didn't agree, I felt I had no choice but to nod in agreement.
The Beast King smiled and said, "This idea was discussed between me and the shaman. Our plan is for you to return to where the Bird Tribe is because only our beast tribe knows about your marriage to Dumin; other tribes are unaware. As long as you regain the trust of the Bird Tribe and use their name to attack other tribes, we can unite them against the Bird Tribe. This way, our beast tribe can reap the benefits without getting involved directly. What do you think, Consort?"
My heart sank; I hadn't expected such a treacherous plan.
I didn't respond to the Beast King; after all, this idea was too sinister and somewhat unethical.
"What's wrong, Consort? Don't you want to obtain the Yin Pearl?" the Beast King asked.
I hesitated and looked at him in surprise. How did he know about this?
The Beast King seemed to read my thoughts and explained, "The shaman told me about it. Didn't she instruct you to retrieve the Yin Pearls from each tribe's Yin Hoko? Our beast tribe is obligated to assist you in this matter. If you want to provoke anger among other tribes, it's quite simple: just go into their tombs and take out the Yin Pearls from their Yin Hoko while leaving traces of the Bird Tribe behind. This will ignite conflict, and we can effectively support you in this endeavor. This is also a suggestion I have for you."
Although I felt angry inside, I knew that doing this was essential to provoke the Yin Pearl and unlock my inner power so that I could reach Solitary Sea and retrieve Ruoxi's soul.
"Let's do as Father says," I finally agreed.
"Good, Consort, you truly have the makings of a great leader, not sweating the small stuff," the Beast King said happily.
After a while, there was some commotion outside the door; it seemed that Dumeng Princess had returned with her entourage.
"Father, why would you order me to withdraw our troops?" Dumeng Princess's face was filled with anger, clearly still furious at the Bird Tribe.
"Because there is a better plan, my daughter. Although the Bird Tribe has killed some of my beast kin and taken pride in it for a moment, rest assured that we will avenge this. The most important matter is not this incident but another one. Do you know what it is?" the Beast King said earnestly to Dumeng Princess.
"What is it, Father? Have you discussed something with Consort?" As she spoke, Dumeng Princess turned to me, seemingly seeking confirmation.
I nodded, and Dumeng Princess shifted her gaze back to the Beast King.
"Yes, I plan to hand over Consort so that he can return with the people of the Bird Tribe. You will secretly assist Consort from within while coordinating from outside. Do you understand?"
"What do you mean by handing over Consort?" Dumeng Princess looked very surprised.
The Beast King nodded and said, "This is the best way."
Dumeng Princess looked at me and subtly gave me a glance. I understood her meaning, but there was no way to change the Beast King's mind. I could only remain silent as Dumeng Princess glared at me with an expression of frustration.
"Father, I don't understand why we should hand over Consort. This will give the Bird Tribe the impression that our beast kin are easy to bully, and they will only become more audacious in the future," Dumeng Princess said angrily.
