I cautiously looked around, sensing that there was something sinister in this place.
At that moment, the Heavenly Emperor, Taishang Laojun, appeared.
I glanced at him and nodded, then surveyed the surroundings. It seemed that Taishang Laojun also sensed something amiss, as he picked up his weapon and scanned the area.
Suddenly, a swirling mass of black wind appeared before us, coalescing into a single entity.
"Heavenly Emperor, this is Evil Energy! It seems to have been released from the Dark Abyss. We need to be more careful; this Evil Energy is mixed with the malevolent aura of past Heavenly Emperors," Taishang Laojun warned.
I acknowledged him with a grunt, my expression turning serious. The black wind grew stronger and suddenly surged toward us. Both Taishang Laojun and I reacted quickly and dodged out of the way.
"Heavenly Emperor, be careful! It's changing!" Taishang Laojun reminded me.
I nodded, and in just a second, I saw the mass of black wind split into two smaller whirlwinds, each rushing toward me and Taishang Laojun.
"Watch out!" I shouted loudly to Taishang Laojun.
As soon as my warning left my lips, the whirlwind enveloped me completely.
"Heavenly Emperor!" Taishang Laojun seemed startled by this scene.
"I'm fine," I replied, feeling a powerful aura surrounding me.
This aura was ominous; my body tensed up immediately. I couldn't remain trapped inside; the energy within could backlash against my Divine Power.
"True Dragon, manifest!" I shouted.
Instantly, a surge of formidable power erupted from within me, expanding my entire body. In an instant, a giant dragon emerged from me, pushing apart the swirling black wind.
Suddenly, the heavens and the earth were filled with a series of tremendous sounds that enveloped everything around us.
Before long, I felt that everything in my surroundings seemed to begin changing slowly.
“Your Majesty, look,” at that moment, Taishang Laojun approached me, pointing at the mass of Black Light before me.
As the Black Light was pushed apart by the giant dragon, it quickly began to converge again. At this moment, the Black Light remained motionless, making me feel even more cautious.
“Your Majesty, let’s destroy it now,” Taishang Laojun said to me.
I nodded; this could prevent Night is Long and Dreams are Many. After receiving my permission, Taishang Laojun unleashed his Divine Power and directed it straight at the mass of Black Light.
The mass of Black Light seemed to sense something and immediately scattered. Taishang Laojun's Divine Power missed its target, but because of his Divine Power, the Black Light transformed into a swarm of Bats.
They were enormous in size and unlike ordinary Bats; they appeared to be grotesque Bats infused with an aura of evil.
“Your Majesty, it seems someone has injected Evil Energy from the Dark Abyss into these Bats,” Taishang Laojun remarked.
I nodded gravely; it appeared that there were still remnants of the Former Heavenly Court. Suddenly, I recalled what Azure Grain had told me before.
Someone wants to harm Ruoxi.
In an instant, a surge of anger coursed through my body. I unleashed the Heavenly Emperor's Light, and in an instant, everything around us was surrounded by a brilliant radiance. The Bats were eradicated by the light I summoned.
At the same time, I sensed a feeling of turbulence in my surroundings.
I quickly looked around; at this moment, I could feel Ruoxi's presence more strongly. Ruoxi was here.
“Your Majesty, look! Everything around us seems to be changing,” Taishang Laojun pointed out.
Everything around began to change; it felt like an illusion. In just a moment, the place transformed into another realm, and Ruoxi suddenly appeared before me.
"Heavenly Emperor, it's Miss Ruoxi."
I rushed forward and picked up the unconscious Ruoxi in my arms, worried about her condition. I immediately placed my hand on her head to check her status.
"Heavenly Emperor, how is Miss Ruoxi?" Taishang Laojun also looked anxious.
I furrowed my brows and continued to channel celestial energy into Ruoxi. I didn't respond to Taishang Laojun.
It seemed there was a resistance within Ruoxi that blocked the celestial energy I was trying to send her way, preventing the chaotic energy inside her from being expelled. That was why she was in such a dire state.
This resistance was very strange; it couldn't be forced out, or else Ruoxi would suffer.
"Heavenly Emperor, let me give it a try."
Taishang Laojun spoke up at that moment. I didn't refuse and nodded. He extended his hand and placed it on Ruoxi's face. In an instant, I felt Ruoxi's body shift slightly, and her complexion turned dark purple. I realized that Taishang Laojun was working to break through the resistance within her.
Before long, Taishang Laojun resolved the resistance surrounding Ruoxi, and then the celestial energy I was sending flowed into her body.
I saw Ruoxi's eyelashes flutter, and my heart raced with excitement.
When Ruoxi opened her eyes, I called out her name in joy.
Ruoxi seemed a bit dazed as she looked at me and Taishang Laojun. After a moment, she finally regained her senses. When she took in her surroundings, she blinked and asked, "Where is this?"
I exchanged a discreet glance with Taishang Laojun, who immediately understood. He addressed Ruoxi, saying, "Miss, this is where you fell unconscious."
Ruoxi was momentarily stunned, her eyes filled with confusion. I helped her up and said, "Alright, let's not worry about that right now. I'll take you home."
Ruoxi nodded, her cheeks turning red.
I waved my sleeve and took Ruoxi into the sky. She was incredibly excited, pointing at the scenery around us and exclaimed, "Wow, look at this, Wang Jun! Everything looks so small! I love this feeling!"
Seeing Ruoxi so happy filled my heart with a sense of joy.
"If you want to keep experiencing this feeling, I can take you anytime," I said to Ruoxi.
"Really? Wow, Wang Jun, you're so nice!" she replied, and then she kissed me on the cheek.
In that instant, I felt a jolt of electricity run through me, a tingling sensation spreading all over my body.
Ruoxi shyly turned her gaze elsewhere. I flew with her down to the entrance of Village. Just as we arrived, we saw many Bandits rushing out from inside, seemingly heading somewhere in a hurry.
"Hey, isn't that my adoptive father and the others? Where could they be going?" Ruoxi asked in confusion.
I shook my head, pondering some thoughts. At that moment, a Sharp Blade shot towards me. Reacting quickly, I grasped the incoming blade and looked up to see a middle-aged man on horseback aiming it at me.
"Adoptive father, what are you doing?" Ruoxi exclaimed in surprise at the sight of the man.
Upon hearing Ruoxi's words, the middle-aged man immediately dismounted and strode over to her. He pulled Ruoxi close and looked at me cautiously. "Xier, I've told you not to trust any man. Why are you mingling with a stranger? Do you know how worried I was when you went missing? Your Uncle and Second Uncle were frantic! The entire Village was mobilized just to find you!"
Hearing his words made me uncomfortable. What did he mean by a stranger? Ruoxi and I were married.
"But adoptive father, he's really a good person! I owe my return to him; he brought me back!" Ruoxi said earnestly to the middle-aged man.
"Is what you said true?" The middle-aged man seemed to doubt Ruoxi's words, likely thinking of me as a bad person.
"It is true, adoptive father. He is a good person, and he saved me. Are you really going to be ungrateful?" Ruoxi pouted.
The middle-aged man was momentarily taken aback, feeling somewhat helpless. He nodded at Ruoxi, his tone laced with resignation and indulgence. "I understand. How about I invite him to our Village as a guest?"
Upon hearing this, Ruoxi's face lit up with joy, and she excitedly said to the middle-aged man, "Great! I knew you were the best, adoptive father!"
After saying that, Ruoxi walked over to me, her face brimming with excitement. "Can you come to our Village as a guest?"
Seeing the hopeful look in Ruoxi's eyes, I smiled and nodded. Ruoxi became even more thrilled and took my hand, leading me inside. As we passed by the middle-aged man, I heard him mutter, "Ah, girls really grow up too fast."
Once we entered the Village, I realized it resembled a quaint little settlement, exuding a very leisurely atmosphere.
"Isn't it beautiful here?" Ruoxi looked at me with eager anticipation.
I nodded seriously and replied, "It's quite nice."
Ruoxi's face beamed with pride as she said, "Of course! I designed this place myself."
Seeing Ruoxi like this made me chuckle. "Oh really? Then you're quite clever."
I reached out and gently placed my hand on Ruoxi's small head. Just then, the middle-aged man approached cautiously and said to me, "Don't get any ideas about my Ruoxi."
I couldn't help but twitch my lips. Would a Heavenly Emperor like me do such a thing? Besides, Ruoxi was already mine.
"Adoptive father, don't say that," Ruoxi couldn't help but roll her eyes at the middle-aged man.
The middle-aged man left helplessly.
Ruoxi took my hand and led me to a small house, saying, "Can you stay here for a few days?"
"Sure, I'll stay with you for a few days," I replied.
"You’re really great! I can cook for you during these days," Ruoxi said with a bright smile.
"Is that so? Then I might just have to stay a bit longer, so I can enjoy your cooking all the time," I teased.
Ruoxi's face turned red instantly. She lowered her head and said, "If you want to eat it for a lifetime, I can cook for you."
Her words were simply sweet enough to warm my heart. I couldn't help but hug Ruoxi and planted a kiss on her forehead.
"Alright, I'll remember what you said."
"Okay!"
"Miss, the boss wants you all to come over; he says the banquet is ready," Bandit walked in at that moment.
"Okay, I understand. You can go ahead," Ruoxi said to Bandit.
Bandit nodded and left.
"Let's go."
Ruoxi led me to the reception hall of the stronghold. The hall was decorated quite comfortably, lacking any roughness typical of banditry.
As soon as Ruoxi and I arrived, we saw that it was filled with many people. It seemed that the middle-aged man was trying to establish his authority over me.
However, I had nothing to fear.
"Don't worry, they are all my family," Ruoxi said, noticing my silence and thinking I was scared. She tried to comfort me.
"Don't worry, I'm fine," I smiled at Ruoxi.
"Really? If you feel scared, just tell me. I will protect you," Ruoxi said to me.
I suddenly felt a bittersweet smile creeping onto my face.
After taking my seat at the banquet, I sensed countless gazes directed at me. I chuckled lightly; did I really look like a bad person?
"Wang Jun, brother, you should eat this," as soon as I sat down, Ruoxi picked up her chopsticks and placed a piece of Braised Soft Tofu into my bowl.
I smiled and said, "Thank you, my Ruoxi."
"Wait a minute, when did she become your Ruoxi? She is clearly my goddaughter!" A middle-aged man sitting at the head of the table stood up, glaring at me with dissatisfaction.
Seeing the middle-aged man rise, the others followed suit, their expressions fierce as they said, "That's right! The young lady belongs to us!"
