"Ah, you, this is impossible! You clearly devoured my skull, how could you still survive?" The woman looked as if she had seen a ghost.
"Heh heh, with those pathetic trinkets of yours, you think you can subdue me? How naive," Feng Ju sneered.
Seeing this, the woman realized she couldn't defeat Feng Ju and immediately transformed into a wisp, trying to escape through the window. I quickly appeared to stop her.
I grabbed the woman again, restraining her in place.
Upon seeing me, the woman suddenly understood and smiled eerily. "Heh heh, I see now. You've already set up an ambush, haven't you?"
"Yes," it seemed this woman wasn't as foolish as she appeared.
"Heh heh, I never expected to have the honor of facing both the Heavenly Emperor and the King of Hell personally."
"Enough with the nonsense. You've harmed so many innocent babies; today, you'll pay for their lives," Feng Ju glared at her menacingly.
The woman's expression changed drastically upon hearing Feng Ju's words, turning pale as fear washed over her.
She shook her head vigorously. Feng Ju coldly laughed and placed a hand on her head. In an instant, her appearance became utterly miserable, as if she were enduring something tormenting.
Feng Ju produced strands of white gas from his hand. "Wang Jun, give me a hand."
I nodded and stepped behind Feng Ju, placing my hand on him to transfer Divine Power.
Then I watched as Feng Ju continuously extracted white gas from the woman. In no time, the entire room was filled with this white gas.
As I observed the gas, an idea formed in my mind.
Once finished, I withdrew my hand. Feng Ju looked up at the white gas floating in mid-air and said, "Wang Jun, I’m afraid I need you to call in the families of those deceased children."
I nodded; that would be easy—just find the village chief.
I stepped outside and happened upon an old man and a young villager. If I wasn't mistaken, the elder must be the village chief.
"Hello, I have something I'd like to ask," I approached them.
The old man and the young villager paused when they saw me approaching, and the old man said, "You are a guest who just arrived in the village."
I nodded and pointed to the house behind me. "I live there, but I need the village chief's help with something."
The old man looked at me with confusion as I explained the situation. After I finished, he stared at me in shock.
"Are you saying you can bring those dead infants back to life?" he asked.
I nodded. I knew anyone would be astonished by this, but it was indeed true.
"Yes, all the village chief needs to do is call their parents over," I said seriously to the chief.
The village chief then spoke a few words to the villager beside him, who went off to inform the others.
"Chief, come with me," I said as I led him to that house.
At that moment, Feng Ju happened to walk out. Seeing me with an old man, he asked, "Is this the village chief?"
I nodded and confirmed it was him. Feng Ju then suggested that the chief go inside to see for himself.
The chief looked at us with a puzzled expression before stepping inside.
Watching his retreating figure, I turned to Feng Ju with some confusion. "Is there something inside?"
Feng Ju nodded and replied, "I have summoned the souls of those deceased children back and removed the powers of the Underworld to revive them."
I acknowledged him with a sound just as the village chief emerged, looking extremely excited. "Aren't these the children who died?"
Feng Ju and I nodded in agreement at the chief's excitement.
The chief was overwhelmed, and soon after, other villagers rushed over. "Chief!"
The sound heightened the excitement of the village chief even more.
"Hurry inside, there are surprises waiting for you!" The chief's face was filled with excitement. Upon hearing this, the villagers quickly entered the house, and waves of joyful voices echoed back to us.
The chief walked over to us, a hint of joy radiating from his face. "Thank you so much! If it weren't for you, our village would have lost all hope."
I looked at the chief and said, "To be honest, this is also our oversight."
The chief appeared puzzled by my words, as if questioning what I meant. I exchanged a glance with Feng Ju, smiled, and chose not to elaborate.
"Excuse me," at that moment, a middle-aged man excitedly approached us. As he reached us, he knelt down directly in front of us. "You truly are divine beings; thank you so much!"
Feng Ju and I were taken aback by the man's gesture and quickly helped him up.
"You don't need to be so formal. We were sent by Earth God; he is particularly worried about you," I explained.
Feng Ju looked at me in surprise, seemingly questioning why I attributed all the credit to Earth God.
Upon hearing my words, the middle-aged man expressed his astonishment. "Are you saying that Earth God sent you? He hasn't forgotten about us, has he?"
I nodded at the middle-aged man, who appeared very pleased. He turned to the village chief excitedly and said, "Chief, look! It turns out that Earth God hasn't abandoned us. We must continue to serve him well!"
The chief nodded in agreement. "Indeed."
I watched as the chief and the middle-aged man exchanged words and then gently tugged at Feng Ju's sleeve, quietly leading her away from the village.
Once outside the village, Feng Ju asked me curiously, "Why did you give all the credit to Earth God?"
"Because only by doing so will those villagers continue to believe in the divine. In truth, it doesn't matter who gets the credit; it's not worth quibbling over."
"Yes, I heard about it before coming here. Something happened to the Emperor, right?" Feng Ju said.
It suddenly occurred to me that I didn't know how Earth God had dealt with the Emperor's situation.
Just as Feng Ju and I were about to look for Earth God, a large cloud of black smoke appeared in front of us.
To my surprise, it was Earth God and Celestial Child, along with the Emperor.
As soon as they saw Feng Ju and me, they collapsed onto the ground.
"What happened?" I asked anxiously, looking at them.
"Heavenly Emperor, we have been poisoned," Earth God said before suddenly collapsing. I was startled by this scene and immediately joined Feng Ju in casting a spell on them.
"Close all your meridians immediately," I instructed them.
Upon hearing this, they quickly followed my instructions and closed all their meridians.
"Wang Jun, how could they end up like this?" Feng Ju asked in confusion.
I thought for a moment and found it strange as well. I replied to Feng Ju, "Let's not discuss that for now; we need to clear the poison from their bodies."
After hearing my words, Feng Ju nodded and helped me cleanse the poison from them. Gradually, their complexion began to improve.
"What caused you to be in this state?" I asked, looking at them with curiosity.
Earth God spoke first after hearing my question. "It's like this, Heavenly Emperor. After we located the demons' hideout, we rushed to rescue the Emperor. At that time, he was tied to a cross; it seemed like some kind of ritual was taking place."
Upon hearing this, I glanced at the Emperor. Although his complexion had improved somewhat, I still felt something was off.
I placed my hand on the Emperor's forehead and sensed a strange aura within his body.
My heart sank as I looked at Earth God in surprise. "Why does his body feel like this?"
The Earth God, upon hearing my words, said, "That is the breath of the living. It is those demons who have infused the breath of the living into the Emperor's body."
I furrowed my brows and asked the Earth God, "Is there any way to force this breath out?"
The Earth God pondered for a moment before replying, "There is a way, but it somewhat violates the Heavenly Rules. I wonder if the Heavenly Emperor would agree."
My heart raced at his words. What time was it now? Why was the Earth God still hesitating?
I quickly urged him, "Just tell me."
The Earth God glanced at the Emperor and then turned his gaze back to me, saying, "Then please have the Heavenly Emperor infuse celestial energy into the Emperor now, transforming his mortal bones into immortal bones. Only then can the Emperor suppress the breath within him."
As soon as the Earth God finished speaking, my frown deepened even further. This method could indeed save the Emperor, but it would come with Divine Retribution.
