Wang Niu felt a sudden jolt in his heart as he naturally thought of the shadow standing outside the door. Was Ling Er referring to those shadows?
Just as he was about to ask Ling Er, the ground shook violently, making Wang Niu feel as if he might lose his balance.
“Ling Er, what’s happening?” Wang Niu quickly grabbed a nearby pillar to steady himself.
“I don’t know either. The Ghostly Aura around us seems to be intensifying. It looks like someone has drawn these Demons here,” Ling Er said with a serious expression.
“Someone has brought the Demons here.” Ling Er's tone became grave.
Wang Niu's heart sank. Someone had attracted the Demons, and immediately, Old Li came to mind. After all, Old Li had just appeared moments ago. Could this be related to him?
Before Wang Niu could speak, Ling Er grabbed his hand. “We need to leave quickly; this isn’t the time to dawdle.”
At that moment, many shadows had gathered at the entrance of the house. It was impossible to leave through the front door, so Ling Er led Wang Niu toward the back door. Just as she was about to open it, a cloud of black smoke suddenly surged toward them.
“Watch out!” Ling Er pulled Wang Niu aside just in time as the black mist rushed toward them but missed due to their quick reflexes.
Wang Niu let out a quiet sigh of relief, but the danger was far from over. At that moment, the black mist transformed into a Demon, moving swiftly and lunging at Wang Niu.
“Ah!” Wang Niu's face turned pale with fear. Just as the Demon was about to reach him, Ling Er shouted, “Quick! Stop breathing!”
Upon hearing this, Wang Niu immediately closed his mouth. The Demon seemed frozen in place, confused and searching for Wang Niu within the room.
Wang Niu's face quickly flushed red; the sensation was unbearable.
Seeing Wang Niu's distress, Ling Er furrowed her brows and stood up. She pulled him up and took out a pill from her pocket, placing it in his mouth. “Alright, you can breathe now.”
As soon as Ling Er spoke those words, Wang Niu gasped for air. In that instant, he felt as if he had been reborn.
“How are you feeling?” Ling Er asked with concern.
Wang Niu nodded at her, indicating that he was alright. Just then, it seemed that the Demon sensed something; a strange gas began to seep in behind them. Ling Er’s expression changed as she quickly closed the back door and sealed it with a talisman.
“What’s going on?” Wang Niu couldn’t help but feel anxious.
Ling Er took a deep breath and said to Wang Niu, “It’s nothing serious; those Demons sensed that they could enter here and are rushing toward us. This means we need to be even more cautious.”
Wang Niu's surroundings became extremely serious as he looked at the Demons, taking a deep breath. Just then, one of the Demons inside the house charged at him again.
Wang Niu's sharp eyes caught sight of a small stool nearby. He quickly grabbed it and swung it at the Demon, and in an instant, the Demon was shattered by Wang Niu's blow.
Wang Niu felt a surge of joy because the Demon had been eliminated. Just as he was about to share his excitement with Ling Er, the shattered Demon reappeared, leaving Wang Niu dumbfounded. What was happening? At that moment, Ling Er was too preoccupied to pay attention to him, as she was also being besieged by Demons from both sides.
"Be careful!" Ling Er shouted while dealing with the Demons, noticing Wang Niu's situation. She quickly reminded him and then continued to fight off the Demons attacking from both directions.
Wang Niu let out a quiet sigh of relief and kept his eyes on the Demons. Suddenly, a Demon in front of him transformed into a rope that tightly constricted around him.
"Cough cough," his face quickly turned red.
Ling Er noticed Wang Niu's predicament immediately and rushed over, swiftly killing the Demon that had ensnared him.
At that moment, Wang Niu was finally able to breathe again, gasping for air. "Ling Er, thank you so much! If you had been even a moment later, I might have died here."
Just as Ling Er was about to say something to Wang Niu, the ground beneath them shook violently. Ling Er seemed to sense something and quickly took off a necklace from around her neck, urging Wang Niu to wear it. Wang Niu hesitated for a moment; the necklace seemed strange, but due to the urgency of the situation, he put it on without examining it closely.
Then, suddenly, both doors of the room were forced open by the Demons.
"Oh no!" Ling Er exclaimed anxiously. Wang Niu's gaze remained fixed on the doors; at that moment, Demons from the back door surged in and surrounded him. Before he could utter a sound, he was enveloped by a cloud of black mist.
"Wang Niu, are you okay?" Although Ling Er faced her own Demons, her heart was more concerned about Wang Niu's situation.
Unfortunately, Wang Niu could not hear Ling Er's voice anymore as he was taken away by the Demons.
Ling Er was furious beyond measure.
Wang Niu found himself completely surrounded by black mist; at that moment, it felt as if he were trapped in a massive cage.
Suddenly, a bright light emitted from around his neck. Wang Niu blinked in surprise and instinctively looked down at his neck. He was astonished to see that it was the necklace Ling Er had given him. As he stood there in shock, the light grew brighter and brighter, causing him to instinctively close his eyes. The brightness was blinding; just then, he heard mournful cries surrounding him—sounds reminiscent of Demons—which made him shudder. He lost track of time until silence returned around him and slowly opened his eyes.
"Where is this?" Wang Niu wondered as he looked around. At that moment, strange sounds echoed nearby.
The Demons had vanished, and the area appeared deserted. The emergence of those sounds made him realize—
Wang Niu jumped in fright and immediately sought out a hidden spot to conceal himself.
The sound grew closer, and at that moment, a familiar voice reached his ears. Upon hearing it, he suddenly shivered; it was Old Li.
Wang Niu's scalp tingled with fear as he glanced around. A man approached, and as he drew nearer, Wang Niu confirmed his earlier suspicion. He couldn't help but swallow hard and covered his nose, worried that his breath might reveal his position.
Old Li seemed to be acting strangely. Halfway through his approach, he suddenly stopped and looked directly at Wang Niu. This made Wang Niu tremble; could it be that Old Li knew he was there?
"Come out; I know you're here," Old Li said, a strange smile spreading across his face. That smile filled Wang Niu with dread.
"Who... who are you?" Since Old Li had discovered him, there was no point in hiding any longer.
Old Li, unfazed by Wang Niu's question, replied, "Who I am is not important. What matters is that you can't escape. You thought that by getting close to Ling'er, you could shake me off? Let me tell you, this is your fate, and this is also the debt you owe me."
As he spoke, Old Li's eyes suddenly turned a deep crimson. Wang Niu's heart raced; could it be that Old Li was the Demon?
While he kept his gaze fixed on Old Li, an odd sensation washed over him. It felt as if he were about to take flight; everything around him became light and airy. Moments later, he found himself uncontrollably drawn toward Old Li. Panic surged within him—what was happening?
Old Li's smirk deepened as the distance between them shrank. Wang Niu felt a chill run down his spine; was he really going to die right in front of Old Li?
His anxiety escalated until a sudden gust of wind swept toward him and Old Li.
Old Li's expression changed instantly; his face turned pale. The unexpected turn of events caused Wang Niu to fall to the ground.
