Wang Niu looked at the woman with a puzzled expression, yet he extended his hand. The woman then drew a strange pattern on Wang Niu's palm. This pattern appeared very eerie, sending a wave of fear through Wang Niu's heart. However, in just a moment, the pattern vanished, and a light emanated from his palm.
He was taken aback, staring at the light on his hand with confusion.
"What is this?"
"This is my hiding place; from now on, I will reside in the palm of your hand," the woman said to Wang Niu.
Surprised by her words, Wang Niu replied, "You mean you can go inside?"
The woman responded, "Yes, if you don't believe me, let me show you."
After saying that, the woman transformed into a wisp of black smoke and directly entered Wang Niu's hand. Witnessing this scene made Wang Niu tremble with fear; the woman had disappeared into his hand, causing him to swallow hard.
"How about now? Do you believe me?" Her voice echoed from within his palm.
"I... I believe you. Are you a Demon?" he asked.
The woman paused for a moment before emerging from Wang Niu's palm and shaking her head. "No, I am not a Demon. My identity cannot be revealed to you yet."
Her words left Wang Niu feeling frustrated; why did both Ling Er and this woman say the same thing?
Taking a deep breath, the woman re-entered Wang Niu's hand. By this time, dawn was approaching. Wang Niu glanced outside and then lay back down to sleep.
The next day, he was awakened by a series of knocks on the door. He quickly got out of bed and opened it.
It was the host.
Without saying a word, the host walked in and began scanning the room, which puzzled Wang Niu. He blinked and asked, "What are you doing?"
The host turned his gaze back to him, his tone becoming stern. "Have you been to that previous house?"
Wang Niu was taken aback and shook his head. The host seemed to suspect him as he circled around him, his gaze oddly intense. This made Wang Niu feel uncomfortable; it felt as if the host were treating him like a thief.
After leaving, Wang Niu suddenly felt warmth in his palm. He froze for a moment and looked down to see wisps of black mist appearing on his hand.
Suddenly, a woman appeared before him, startling Wang Niu.
"You need to be careful; this host seems a bit difficult to deal with," the woman's words left Wang Niu momentarily stunned. Difficult to deal with?
"What do you mean by that?"
A beam of light suddenly appeared in the woman's hand, and then it solidified in mid-air, transforming into a mirror. This piqued Wang Niu's curiosity.
"What is this?"
The woman glanced at him and said, "This is a mirror that can see everything. You can give it a try."
A mirror that can see everything only deepened Wang Niu's curiosity. He turned to look into the mirror and saw an image appear—indeed, it was the scene of the host leaving just moments ago.
The mirror followed the host closely, which frustrated Wang Niu. Just then, he witnessed a shocking scene: the host entered a room and seemed to check if anyone was inside. After confirming there was no one, the host closed the door behind him.
At that moment, the screen suddenly went dark, leaving Wang Niu puzzled. Was it unable to show anything anymore?
He looked at the woman, about to ask her what was happening when the mirror revealed something again, filling him with confusion.
"This is normal; just keep watching. Soon you'll see the truth. Also, your questions will be answered," the woman told him.
Wang Niu hesitated for a moment but continued to watch. After entering the room, the host inexplicably peeled off his own skin.
The entire layer of skin came off, leaving Wang Niu bewildered. Wasn't the host human?
After a while, Wang Niu nearly screamed in terror; this was no human at all—it was clearly a terrifying Demon.
Wang Niu swallowed hard, his expression turning pale. It turned out that this host was not human.
Seeing his reaction, the woman retracted the mirror and looked at Wang Niu with concern. "What’s wrong with you?" she asked gently.
Wang Niu blinked in shock and shook his head, fear evident on his face. The woman glanced at him again and said, "This is normal because you will see even more terrifying Demons."
Wang Niu felt a moment of foolishness wash over him.
"We should hurry and leave," he suddenly exclaimed, as if realizing something important, and quickly pulled the woman away.
"Wait," the woman called out to Wang Niu at that moment.
"What is it?" Wang Niu looked at her in confusion.
"If you leave now, there will be trouble," concern appeared on the woman's face.
"Trouble?"
Wang Niu stared at her, and she nodded. "Yes, that woman will come looking for you, and we will be caught in the middle of it. We can leave, but not right now."
"What should we do then?"
"Just act like nothing is happening."
As they spoke, someone approached them.
"Someone's coming; we need to be careful." After saying this, the woman immediately transformed into a cloud of black mist and entered Wang Niu's palm.
At that moment, a Daoist figure appeared at the door, causing Wang Niu to freeze for a second. He hurried to open it, revealing a child.
"Why did you take so long to open the door? You're so slow!" The child walked in with an annoyed expression, leaving Wang Niu momentarily stunned. The child placed something on the table and then left.
This left Wang Niu feeling quite frustrated. He closed the door, and at that moment, his stomach growled. Looking at the food on the table, he suddenly felt very hungry.
Wang Niu walked toward the food and was about to eat when the woman emerged again and immediately stopped him. "Wait! Don't eat that. Do you know what it is?"
Wang Niu paused, looking at her. Then she placed her finger on his eye, and a chill swept through his gaze.
When Wang Niu opened his eyes again, the food in front of him had completely changed its appearance.
"What happened?" A sense of dread filled Wang Niu's heart.
"This is no longer something you can eat. Now you should understand why I didn't want you to eat it."
Wang Niu nodded at the woman, his gaze fixed on the insects crawling in the dish before him, and a wave of fear washed over him.
Seeing his reaction, the woman promptly discarded the plate.
"These Demons are truly outrageous," Wang Niu said, momentarily stunned.
"Yes, so you must be careful," the woman instructed Wang Niu.
He nodded, but with no food left, his stomach growled even louder. The woman seemed to notice and conjured up a spread of food. Wang Niu's eyes widened at the sight of the table laden with dishes, and he couldn't help but lick his lips. However, a memory of what he had seen earlier made him hesitate to eat.
Noticing Wang Niu's immobility, the woman asked, "What's wrong?"
Wang Niu awkwardly chuckled and replied, "This isn't going to be more of those insects, is it?"
The woman laughed at his words and reassured him, "No way! You can relax; I would never do that to you."
Feeling relieved by her response, Wang Niu said, "Then I won't hold back." He sat down, and soon after, the woman joined him. They ate together like a couple.
"Make sure to eat plenty; I don't want you to go hungry," she said as she served him a piece of meat. Wang Niu's heart skipped a beat at her gesture; this scene seemed to linger in his mind.
"Have we met before?" he put down his chopsticks and asked her.
The woman paused mid-bite at his question. "Do you want the truth or a lie?" she replied.
Wang Niu was taken aback by her response. What did she mean by truth or lie?
"It was the truth back then."
She smiled slightly and added, "Well, sort of."
Wang Niu felt a bit helpless; what did "sort of" mean?
The woman fell silent after that, and soon Wang Niu did too. Once they finished eating, he asked her, "You said we can't leave; what should we do now?"
The woman smiled and said, "Of course, it's to enhance the energy within you. Did you know that?"
Wang Niu was taken aback for a moment, enhancing the energy within him?
"You mean, I have energy too?"
The woman nodded and walked out the door. Seeing this, Wang Niu followed her, and soon he found himself in a different place.
"Where is this?" Wang Niu looked around in confusion; it didn't seem like a gym.
"This is a place to increase your energy."
Wang Niu was stunned as he watched the woman place her hand in the air. Suddenly, he felt a slight ripple in the atmosphere, and then he saw an unusual scene unfold before him.
"Walk over there," the woman instructed.
Wang Niu hesitated but stepped forward. As soon as he entered, he found himself in a completely different environment.
"Where is this?"
The woman followed him inside. "This is a place for cultivating energy. It's good for you. That woman had something to attend to for a few days, so during this time, you can practice here. I'll keep an eye on things outside."
Her words left Wang Niu stunned; did that mean he would be alone here?
He noticed the woman's hesitant expression just as he was about to speak. Suddenly, she vanished.
Wang Niu felt helpless but decided to trust what the woman had said since he was already inside. For some reason, he found himself believing her.
As he walked further in, he caught a whiff of an incredibly pleasant scent that gave him a strange feeling.
In an instant, he felt invigorated, which only deepened his confusion. Could it really be as the woman said?
He continued deeper into the space when suddenly, a dark shadow zipped past him at high speed, causing his heart to race. Could there be demons here?
Suddenly, an odd sound reached his ears; it seemed to come from behind him. Instinctively, he turned around to look. In that moment, the shadow lunged at him and grabbed his throat, leaving Wang Niu gasping for breath.
Before long, he felt a sense of suffocation creeping in. Just as he was on the verge of losing consciousness, he suddenly heard a voice say, "You cannot die."
As the voice faded, a surge of power suddenly filled his body, lifting him up entirely.
"Ah!" His body felt as if it were about to explode, arching in response. Then, a beam of light emanated from within him, piercing through the shadow, which was subsequently torn in half by that light.
"What is happening?" Wang Niu asked, staring curiously at the shadow before him.
The shadow suddenly transformed into wisps of Black Light, swirling around Wang Niu as if they possessed a will of their own. This strange phenomenon puzzled him. Just then, the Black Light surged into his body.
After a moment, the Black Light gradually dissipated, leaving his body feeling as if it had been expanded.
