"Why is Ruoxi coughing up blood?" Wang Niu's voice carried a hint of urgency.
Ruoxi's complexion grew increasingly pale, causing Wang Niu to feel a deep sense of anxiety. He saw her open her mouth, but no words came out. This only heightened his concern. He gently shook her, noticing the difficulty etched on her face. Swallowing hard, he felt a surge of panic and directed energy into Ruoxi's back. He remembered that he had enough energy within him; this way, Ruoxi could be saved.
"Wang Jun, what are you doing?" Ruoxi exclaimed, struggling to turn towards him.
Wang Niu glanced at her and said, "I'm helping you channel your energy, Ruoxi. Just stay still."
Ruoxi's eyes widened in surprise as she shook her head at him. "No, Wang Jun, you shouldn't do this. I'm not worth it."
With that, she pushed him away.
Feeling a pang of sorrow for Ruoxi, Wang Niu used his energy to restrain her. She struggled against him, but he moved closer and spoke earnestly, "Don't reject me. Even though my memories from my past life haven't returned, I know you are the one I love. My heart won't allow me to neglect you like this. You know how much I care for you."
Ruoxi was taken aback by Wang Niu's words, waves of emotion washing over her as she looked at him.
After transferring his energy to her, Ruoxi's color began to improve.
Seeing the change in her complexion eased the heavy weight in Wang Niu's heart. He took a deep breath and wrapped his arms protectively around her.
Ruoxi was surprised, her cheeks flushing slightly. She glanced at Wang Niu and asked, "Wang Niu, what are you doing?"
Wang Niu smiled softly and ruffled her hair. "I'm protecting you, of course. You're my wife; how could I let you be in danger? I didn't notice that sound earlier and it caused you harm—that's my fault. No matter what happens from now on, I won't let you get hurt again."
Ruoxi felt deeply touched by his words. Just as she was about to respond, the same ominous sound echoed from a distance again, causing her to instinctively close her eyes. In that moment, Wang Niu reacted swiftly and repelled the source of the sound.
Ruoxi blinked in confusion, still processing what had happened when Wang Niu's voice reached her ears. "It's okay now; you're safe."
She opened her eyes to find nothing amiss before letting out a sigh of relief. "We need to be careful from now on," she advised him.
Wang Niu nodded solemnly just as they heard the sound of dripping water.
Ruoxi furrowed her brow. "Where is that dripping sound coming from? It's suspicious."
"Wang Jun, listen—it's the sound of dripping water," she said gravely.
Wang Niu frowned as he listened intently to the sound while an immense danger silently approached them.
"Wang Jun, we need to be cautious," she warned.
As soon as Ruoxi finished speaking, a massive splash of water suddenly appeared before them.
Ruoxi was startled and flew up with Wang Niu. If they had been a moment later, they would have surely been engulfed by the water.
"What is happening? How can there be a sound of water here?" Wang Niu's face changed dramatically.
Ruoxi also looked puzzled. She shook her head at Wang Niu and said, "It must be that someone has cast some kind of spell."
Wang Niu's expression darkened. He looked at Ruoxi and said, "Ruoxi, you’ve exhausted your energy. I’ll handle everything."
Ruoxi felt touched and nodded in agreement.
Just as Wang Niu was speaking to Ruoxi, a gigantic Water Spirit formed from the water in front of them appeared.
"Heh heh, you all will die," the Water Spirit said to them.
Upon hearing the Water Spirit's words, Ruoxi's heart sank. It seemed that this Water Spirit was quite formidable. She furrowed her brows, suddenly recalling something, and spoke a few words to Wang Niu. Wang Niu looked surprised but then nodded. As the Water Spirit launched its attack, Wang Niu summoned an Earth Barrier.
In an instant, the attack from the Water Spirit was covered by Wang Niu's earth magic.
The Water Spirit panicked, staring at Wang Niu in disbelief. "Who are you? How can you wield such a spell?"
Wang Niu sneered and replied, "You don’t need to know who I am. I just want to tell you that your time to die is now."
After Wang Niu finished speaking, the Water Spirit was directly pierced through by a giant dragon.
Then, a massive splash of water surged towards Wang Niu and Ruoxi. It seemed that Wang Niu realized something and quickly set up a protective shield before the wave could reach them.
The enormous splash hit the shield, startling Wang Niu. If he had been even a moment slower, they might have been injured by the deluge. He secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Ruoxi looked at Wang Niu and reached out to touch him, saying, "Wang Jun, are you okay?"
Wang Niu paused for a moment and shook his head at Ruoxi. "I'm fine; it was nothing. But what about you? Are you alright?"
Ruoxi shook her head. As they spoke, the massive splash of water had receded, and she let out a deep sigh of relief. Turning to Wang Niu, she said, "Wang Jun, let's hurry down."
At that moment, the flood before them had vanished.
Wang Niu was astonished. He looked around and saw no trace of water anywhere.
Furrowing his brow, he said to Ruoxi, "What just happened seems like an illusion."
Ruoxi seemed to understand as she replied, "Yes, you're right. Perhaps we've stepped into each other's illusions. But we need to be careful; illusions can feel very real."
Wang Niu's heart trembled at her words, causing Ruoxi to feel a pang of concern. They landed on the ground and continued forward, noticing that the path ahead was narrowing, allowing only one person to pass at a time. Ruoxi glanced at Wang Niu and said, "Wang Niu, I think there's something wrong with this path. Since there's a problem, let me go first."
With that, Ruoxi stepped ahead.
Wang Niu wanted to stop her but worried that the danger behind them was greater. So he quietly summoned the giant dragon to protect Ruoxi's side.
After walking for a while without any disturbances, the surroundings were eerily quiet. Yet despite this calmness, Ruoxi felt increasingly uneasy; she couldn't believe there was nothing amiss here.
"Ruoxi, be careful," he couldn't help but remind her.
Ruoxi nodded and replied, "You too."
As they prepared to move forward, suddenly the distance between them changed inexplicably. A thick cloud of smoke erupted between them, causing Ruoxi to panic instantly. She shouted loudly, "Wang Jun, watch out!"
Then they saw an enormous spark appear out of nowhere, which separated them instantly. In that last moment, Ruoxi reached out and grasped Wang Niu's hand tightly. However, she hadn't anticipated that a gigantic hand would suddenly emerge between them, blocking their connection.
Wang Niu was startled and shouted for Ruoxi. At that moment, he could barely see her through the dense fog surrounding them.
"Ruoxi, are you still there?" Wang Niu's voice was filled with anxiety, but unfortunately, Ruoxi could no longer hear him.
When the fog finally cleared, Wang Niu realized he had been separated from Ruoxi. The environment he found himself in was filled with corpses everywhere. He stood frozen for a moment—what kind of place was this?
"Welcome to Hell Kingdom," a voice echoed from above Wang Niu.
He looked up in shock to see swirling clouds of pale yellow smoke hovering over him.
Stunned for a moment by the sight above him, Wang Niu's heart sank as he addressed the presence in the air, "What exactly are you?"
The air did not speak; it only chuckled softly.
This made Wang Niu's heart tremble a little.
After the laughter faded, the corpse in front of Wang Niu suddenly stood up. Then, that voice reappeared, "Let's play a game of chess with corpses. If you win, I'll help you find the person you're looking for."
Wang Niu was taken aback. Did this mean he would learn about Uncle Tiger?
Suddenly, Wang Niu became excited and said to the voice, "That's what you said!"
"Yes."
As soon as the word left its mouth, the corpses in front of him began to move quickly. After a while, they arranged themselves into a chessboard.
Wang Niu paused for a moment but instantly knew what to do.
"You go first," the voice said again.
Wang Niu carefully examined the pieces in front of him. Then he recalled his first move and urged the first corpse in the front row to advance.
He watched as that corpse took a step forward when the voice suddenly called out, "Go."
After saying that, Wang Niu saw the opponent's corpse advance a step as well.
Wang Niu frowned directly. What did this mean? By moving like that, wasn't it giving him the chance to capture one of their pieces?
Wang Niu was momentarily stunned and puzzled. He couldn't believe the opponent would be so foolish. Then he urged another corpse in front of him and launched an attack into the opponent's territory.
"Hehe, you're quite clever; you didn't fall for it."
Wang Niu's heart sank at that moment as he recalled the earlier trap. If he had captured one of the opponent's pieces just now, he would have been finished.
Then, the opponent made another move. This time, it caused Wang Niu's side to lose several pieces in an instant. Wang Niu was dumbfounded. It took him a moment to realize that the opponent had set a small trap for him. From now on, he could not afford to be careless. He glanced at his remaining pieces—there were only five left. If he didn't think carefully about his next moves, he might face total annihilation.
Wang Niu pondered for a long time when the voice echoed again, "Hurry up."
Wang Niu's heart suddenly tightened. He glanced around at the pieces on the board and instantly thought of a strategy. He moved the central piece, the most powerful and crucial one among them. If this piece was used improperly, it could lead to danger.
As Wang Niu made his move, a strange sound emanated from that voice, causing him to pause for a moment. Soon after, the opponent's pieces began to appear, and similarly, they had also used the same piece—a king.
Wang Niu furrowed his brow; what was the opponent trying to do?
Just then, he noticed that several of the opponent's pieces were vulnerable to capture.
With that realization, Wang Niu felt a surge of excitement. He swung his piece forward, and as soon as it landed, the opponent lost several pieces in quick succession. Now, he had one more piece than his opponent.
"Ha ha, I didn't expect you to be quite skilled," the voice remarked.
The opponent continued to deploy their pieces, and Wang Niu's frown deepened; every move now carried a risk.
In a short span of time, beads of sweat began to form on Wang Niu's forehead, intensifying his anxiety. Suddenly, an idea struck him. He moved his king to a position of imminent danger—a risky move indeed.
At that moment, the voice echoed again, "What a bold move into danger."
No sooner had the voice faded than the opponent's pieces advanced. Before long, a shocking scene unfolded: several of the opponent's pieces were destroyed in rapid succession, culminating in the demise of their king. Wang Niu was momentarily stunned before bursting into laughter—he had won!
Then the voice addressed him again, "Well, a bet is a bet. I concede defeat. Keep moving forward, and you will soon see your Ruoxi and Uncle Chen."
As those words were spoken, everything before him began to fade away.
Wang Niu was momentarily dazed. After a brief moment, everything transformed into another scene before him, leaving him puzzled. Was what had just happened merely an illusion?
At that moment, he spotted someone appearing before him—this figure looked remarkably like Ruoxi.
His heart raced as he rushed toward her. Just then, an odd sound echoed around him, making him shiver. Was the cave collapsing?
Wang Niu quickly scooped up Ruoxi and fled from the cave. The instant they emerged from its mouth, the cave collapsed behind them. Wang Niu's expression changed instantly; if he had been even a moment later, they might have perished inside.
He took a deep breath and looked down at Ruoxi in his arms but was taken aback.
Something seemed off about Ruoxi.
It wasn't her appearance but rather the expression on her face. He froze for a moment before calling out to her, "Ruoxi, wake up!"
Ruoxi seemed to be unresponsive, maintaining a silent demeanor. Wang Niu's heart sank; could something have happened to Ruoxi?
Just as he was lost in thought, Ruoxi suddenly opened her eyes. In that instant, Wang Niu was taken aback. He couldn't shake the feeling that there was something strange about the look in Ruoxi's eyes. After a moment of hesitation, he asked, "Ruoxi, what's wrong?"
Ruoxi remained silent, her gaze fixed on Wang Niu.
A strange sensation welled up within Wang Niu, making him feel uneasy. Why was he experiencing this unfamiliar feeling? It hadn’t been there before.
This made Wang Niu cautious; could the Ruoxi before him be an imposter?
"Ruoxi," Wang Niu tried again tentatively. At that moment, Ruoxi's expression suddenly became familiar again. Wang Niu felt a wave of confusion wash over him as he looked at Ruoxi. His doubts began to ease when she approached him, but the smile on her lips was unsettling. For some reason, he instinctively took a few steps back.
"Wang Jun," Ruoxi's tone had turned oddly strange.
Wang Niu paused for a moment and responded. Just then, he felt something rush toward him from the front. He froze, and in that instant, an intense pain surged through his heart.
He was momentarily stunned and instinctively looked down at his chest, where he saw a knife embedded deep within his heart. His eyes widened in disbelief as he stared at Ruoxi.
A cold smile crept across Ruoxi's lips, leaving Wang Niu with an odd sensation; it felt as if, at that moment, she was not Ruoxi. But in reality, she truly wasn’t.
Suddenly, Ruoxi's expression changed dramatically. Wang Niu blinked in surprise as he noticed wisps of black mist swirling above her head; it looked very peculiar.
At that moment, Ruoxi began to tremble violently, leaving Wang Niu stunned.
In an instant, Ruoxi collapsed to the ground. Wang Niu was genuinely shocked; he looked at Ruoxi and, ignoring the pain in his chest, rushed to embrace her.
"Ruoxi, are you okay?" he asked anxiously.
Wang Niu's expression was frantic; if something happened to Ruoxi, then what would he do?
"Ruoxi!"
Ruoxi still did not respond, and Wang Niu could see the blood on her chest becoming more and more pronounced. Although Wang Niu felt a deep pain in her heart, she was also very worried.
Just then, as Wang Niu was about to channel energy to Ruoxi, a giant dragon emerged from within her body.
The dragon let out a loud roar, and in an instant, Wang Niu felt as if everything around her shook. Then, the dragon lifted Ruoxi into the air. Initially, Wang Niu was still somewhat anxious, but seeing that the dragon did not harm Ruoxi, she let out a sigh of relief.
The dragon's body suddenly radiated a brilliant light. For a moment, Wang Niu was stunned; the light acted like a magnet, drawing in the black mist surrounding Ruoxi. Before long, the absorbed black mist coalesced into a large sphere.
This left Wang Niu completely astonished, her heart filled with surprise.
Could it be that this black mist was the reason Ruoxi had remained unconscious?
Then, it seemed that Ruoxi was about to awaken. At that moment, the dragon gently set Ruoxi down and then vanished. Wang Niu hurried forward and embraced Ruoxi tightly.
"Ruoxi, wake up," Wang Niu urged anxiously. Ruoxi first opened her eyes and then looked dazed for a moment before asking Wang Niu, "What happened to me?"
Wang Niu shook her head and replied, "I don't know either. It seems there was black mist in your body that caused you to faint."
Upon hearing this, Ruoxi paused for a moment, thought it over, and said to Wang Niu, "Are you saying that after we separated, there was a lot of black mist in my body?"
Wang Niu nodded in response to Ruoxi's realization. Instantly, Ruoxi's expression turned grim.
This made Wang Niu even more puzzled. She looked at Ruoxi with concern and asked, "Ruoxi, what's wrong?"
Ruoxi shook her head and said to Wang Niu, "It's nothing. I must have been careless earlier, which allowed them to take advantage of me."
Hearing this made Wang Niu even more anxious. She quickly asked Ruoxi, "So what exactly happened?"
Ruoxi began to explain.
When she had separated from Wang Niu, a lot of black mist had also surrounded her.
As the black mist dissipated, it was already too late. A massive cloud of darkness surged toward her, and suddenly, everything before her was engulfed in blackness. Following that, Wang Niu understood what was about to happen.
Upon hearing Ruoxi's words, Wang Niu furrowed his brow. It seemed that the male voice he had encountered earlier had deceived him.
