"She caught a chill and feels weak, but I still recommend taking her to the hospital for a check-up," Qi Ziluo said as he put away his stethoscope and wrote out a prescription for A-Shan to fetch the medicine.
He was speaking to Jin Chengyan, who stood by the bed, staring at the pale girl lying there, his expression as cold as frost.
Yes, it was Jin Chengyan who had gone to the police station first. He wanted to confront Jono, questioning what kind of malicious intent could lead her to deny framing Ruan Shengyu. What could possibly drive her to ruin an innocent girl's reputation?
However, when he arrived, the police had called for a doctor, as one of the detained suspects had fainted.
At that moment, when he saw them carrying Jono out of the holding room, his heart was filled with concern.
He said nothing and rushed forward to snatch Jono from their hands, cradling her as he left. Behind him, he could hear the astonished voices of the officers and their attempts to intervene, which A-Shan dealt with.
Then he brought Jono into Jin Mansion and called for Qi Ziluo to come over as well.
Seeing that Jin Chengyan was ignoring him, Qi Ziluo packed up his things, patted Jin Chengyan on the shoulder, and exited Jono's room.
It would be a lie to say that Jin Chengyan wasn't angry!
Ruan Shengyu had been violated, and he had sent people to investigate. The prime suspect was Jono. However, after Jono's explanation and Ruan Shengyu's decision not to pursue the matter further, it had been downplayed.
But unexpectedly, there was another layer to this situation—Jono had been orchestrating things behind the scenes for Lu Ling and Zhao Qian to bully Ruan Shengyu! All just to secure a contract in the end!
Had he failed to see through Jono's true nature, or was she simply too good at putting on an act?
He watched as the person on the bed slowly began to awaken. In a daze, she realized she was in Jin Mansion and saw Jin Chengyan standing at her bedside.
"Jin Chengyan..." Jono called out his name as she gradually propped herself up in bed, feeling dizzy.
All she could remember was being in the police station where they hadn't even left her a glass of water or turned on the air conditioning. She had always been afraid of confined spaces since childhood; with dim lighting and stagnant air, she had fainted while leaning over the desk!
Now waking up in her room at Jin Mansion, she found Jin Chengyan standing before her.
Was it him who rescued her from the police station?
“Jin Chengyan, it wasn’t me…” Jono thought of the police's relentless interrogation, leaving her with nowhere to hide. Now, seeing Jin Chengyan, all she wanted was to tell him that she hadn’t done it.
There were no lengthy explanations, just the simple statement that it wasn’t her.
Jin Chengyan’s expression was calm, making it hard to tell whether he was angry or believed her.
Suddenly, he sat down beside her and raised his hand to caress her cheek.
She instinctively recoiled; his hand was icy cold, as if he had just stepped out of a freezer, a stark contrast to the warmth he usually exuded.
His gaze was equally inscrutable, leaving Jono wondering what he was really thinking.
“Jono, do you love me?” Jin Chengyan asked, his expression serious and devoid of any hint of jest. He was earnestly seeking an answer from her about her feelings for him.
And he was waiting for that answer.
“I just came from the police station. They asked me if I was the one who framed Ruan Shengyu for murder, but it wasn’t me…”
“Jono, do you love me?” Jin Chengyan repeated the same question.
Jono felt lost, completely unsure of what Jin Chengyan wanted from her.
“I’ve only met Ruan Shengyu twice—once when she came into Jin Mansion and another time at the hotel when she greeted me…”
“Jono, do you love me?” Jin Chengyan leaned closer, finally placing his cold hand on her face.
Jono held her breath, staring into the eyes of Jin Chengyan, so close yet so distant.
Did she love this man?
She didn’t know. All she knew was that during her most helpless moments, he had given her a contract that allowed her to change her circumstances. Though it was mutually beneficial, she had gained the most from it!
When she had been bullied by former friends and an ex-boyfriend, it was Jin Chengyan who stood up for her!
After her father's death, she didn't know how to cope until Jin Chengyan saw through her thoughts and comforted her.
Now, this same Jin Chengyan asked Jono if she loved him.
"Yes, I like you," Jono faced Jin Chengyan directly, unable to deny the affection she felt for him.
Jin Chengyan said nothing. She noticed the corners of his mouth lift slightly, unsure whether he was happy because someone admired him or if he was satisfied by some other confirmation. In any case, he smiled subtly.
Then, before Jono could react, Jin Chengyan's kiss descended upon her.
"Mm..." Jono grabbed hold of Jin Chengyan, surprised by his boldness.
He laid her back on the bed, propping himself up beside her with one hand while showering her with gentle kisses. A thin blanket separated them, yet she could still feel the heat radiating from his body.
With his other hand, he held Jono's chin, tilting her face up to meet his kiss.
All Jono could do was clutch tightly at the fabric of his waist, overwhelmed by a mix of nervousness and excitement.
When Jin Chengyan suddenly kissed her, did it mean he believed in her? Otherwise, he wouldn't have dared to kiss her!
But surely, Jin Chengyan must have been thinking about Ruan Shengyu. Why would he kiss her then?
"Jono, you're not serious," Jin Chengyan pulled away from her lips, his deep-set eyes locking onto hers as if trying to see into her very soul.
Jono's face flushed instantly; ever since the police station incident, she had struggled to think clearly.
Now, amidst his unexpected kiss, she felt completely lost.
Thus, she couldn't possibly take things seriously.
It seemed that to punish her for this distraction, Jin Chengyan leaned down and bit her lip gently. The sudden sting jolted her back to reality, and she realized they were lying on the bed in an intimate position with him pressing down on her!
"Jin Chengyan..." Jono whispered his name softly, caught between the remnants of her earlier faintness and the intensity of his passion now.
In response to Jono, Jin Chengyan delivered an even more thorough kiss.
She felt his hand slip beneath her clothing, his cold fingers gliding over her heated skin.
Jono found her mind blank, overwhelmed by a sensation she had never experienced before. She couldn't muster the strength to resist or push away the person on top of her.
All her thoughts surged to the forefront as she closed her eyes, surrendering to everything Jin Chengyan was giving her.

"Young Master, I've brought the medicine..."
A-Shan pushed the door open, completely unaware that Jono was already awake. She had no idea that her young master would engage in such activities while someone was ill, nor did she realize how eager he was.
The room fell silent for what felt like two seconds before A-Shan quickly withdrew and shut the door quietly.
Inside the room, Jono's face flushed as she pulled the blanket over herself.
She was nearly undressed, while he appeared relatively composed except for his slightly disheveled shirt.
The sudden intrusion of A-Shan had caused the storm in their eyes to dissipate, and it was then that Jono felt a wave of shame wash over her.
Just moments ago, they had almost...
Yet Jin Chengyan's hand remained beneath the blanket, resting gently on her lower abdomen, softly caressing her.
Jono found herself unable to resist such a gesture. She closed her eyes, her cheeks burning with embarrassment.
She knew this was truly shameful, but she had no reason to reject Jin Chengyan; all she could do was grip the blanket tightly.
"Get some rest," Jin Chengyan said as he withdrew his hand from under the blanket, tucking it in around her before standing up to leave.
Jono wanted to say something more, but there was no trace of reluctance in Jin Chengyan's departing figure.
Jono felt a deep discomfort all over her body.
Jin Chengyan had been distant, having rejected her just days ago, telling her that their relationship was merely one of a contract. Yet today, when she found herself trapped in the police station, it was he who brought her out and even asked her if she loved him!
Just moments ago, during their heated exchange, she sensed his feelings were far from the typical male taking advantage of a female.
Did Jin Chengyan really need to take advantage of a woman?
With just a wave of his hand, countless women would eagerly rush to be with him!
So, he must have feelings for her too!
And she didn’t like keeping such feelings bottled up inside.
Jono disliked this sensation immensely. She threw off the covers but couldn’t find her slippers, so she stood barefoot on the floor and dashed out.
In the corridor outside, A-Shan was bowing her head, admitting her mistakes to Jin Chengyan. Upon seeing Jono rush out in nothing but her pajamas, A-Shan immediately lowered her head even further, wishing she could disappear into the ground!
Jin Chengyan turned around and saw Jono running out in her sleepwear.
A tightness gripped his lower abdomen.
If A-Shan hadn’t barged in just now, Jin Chengyan knew he wouldn’t have been able to hold back!
Why was that? He wasn’t sure.
With so many women around him, he preferred to handle things himself rather than touch any of them; they felt dirty to him!
Yet with Jono, just a touch or a kiss sent him spiraling out of control; he simply couldn’t stop!
She wasn’t the most beautiful woman he knew; her figure wasn’t the best, and she wasn’t even particularly glamorous. Yet still, he found himself reacting to Jono!
A-Shan sensed the subtle tension between Jin Chengyan and Jono and quietly slipped away.
Jono gazed at Jin Chengyan as she stepped closer, tilting her head to look up at him.
This man was truly handsome, with defined features, deep-set eyes, and alluring thin lips.
"Is Ruan Shengyu really your girlfriend?" Jono asked him, her curiosity piqued.
Jin Chengyan looked at Jono's petite figure beneath the white nightgown and felt an overwhelming urge to sweep her off her feet and onto the bed.
"No," he replied. She had never been his girlfriend.
She loved to interact with him as a friend but had never publicly claimed to be the friend of the Jin Family Young Master.
Upon receiving this answer, Jono seemed to lose all restraint. She stood on her tiptoes, wrapped her arms around his neck, and kissed him deeply.
