Jono didn't know how she ended up back at Jin Mansion, and she was unsure how to explain the situation with Xining to Jin Chengyan.
Maybe it was better not to explain at all?
Just as she returned to Jin Mansion, the doorbell rang.
Jono quickly went to open the door and saw Jin Chengyan's sister, Jin Mengli, standing outside with her son.
"Sister?" Jono was a bit surprised. What brought Jin Mengli here at this time? "Come in!"
Jin Mengli seemed to be in a hurry. She glanced at her watch and said to Jono, "I can't stay long. I have to go on a business trip unexpectedly. Yuxiu's father is also abroad; he needs to meet Uncle. I know he's at the hospital right now. Can you help me take Yuxiu over there?"
Jono couldn't let Jin Chengyan's sister say that.
She immediately replied, "Of course! I'll take Yuxiu over. Don't worry!"
"Great! After visiting Ayan at the hospital, just bring him back home. Make sure he doesn't disturb Ayan's rest."
"I'm not going to disturb Uncle's rest! He's just pretending to be sick! He even told me that when I called him this morning!" Yuxiu quickly retorted.
Jono smiled; the little guy's defiant expression was truly adorable.
Last time she visited Jin Family Mansion, the little one had been sleeping in his mother's arms, completely undisturbed by all the noise around him. What a reassuring child.
Jin Mengli rubbed her temples and said, "Thank you for this." After that, she handed Chuyu Xiu over to Jono and got into her car, heading toward the airport.
While in the car, Jin Mengli called her mother, Melancholy.
"Mom, I've dropped off Yuxiu. Honestly, I think this is pointless. What’s the point of testing someone? After all, she's Ayan's wife now. Are you really going to let her divorce him just because she doesn't like kids?" Jin Mengli didn't understand her mother's reasoning.
"You don't understand. It's fine; I'll handle this myself. Just be careful while you're out," her mother replied.
After hanging up the phone, Jin Mengli shook her head.
However, thinking about it, this could be considered Jono's true entry into all the experiences of the Jin Family!
Ultimately, the Jin Family did not want a woman of poor character as their daughter-in-law.
...
"Aunt-in-law, you and Uncle live in this old house? The books say old houses are haunted. Aren't you afraid of ghosts?" Chuyu Xiu followed Jono.
Jono was preparing clothes for Jin Chengyan. This person was incredibly picky and later texted him saying he couldn't stand the hospital gown any longer and insisted Jono bring him pajamas.
He also mentioned needing some food because he wasn't used to the hospital meals.
Jono thought to himself that if he was so uncomfortable, why had he stayed in the hospital for so many days? He must have quite a bit of endurance!
But despite his thoughts, Jono obediently packed everything for him.
However, upon hearing Chuyu Xiu's words, Jono felt a chill run down his spine.
He turned to look at the little gentleman in a small suit with a red bow tie, sitting upright on the end of Jin Chengyan's bed, speaking seriously.
"Um... there shouldn't be any here!" If there were, he would have been scared to death sleeping alone a few days ago!
"Oh..." Chuyu Xiu nodded thoughtfully. "But Grandpa and Grandma don't live here. They say this place is haunted. Uncle lives here because he's brave! Actually, I really want to live here with Uncle too! But my mom and dad have their own home, so I can't leave them!"
Jono quickly finished packing Jin Chengyan's pajamas and undergarments, eager to take Chuyu Xiu away from there.
Although Jin Chengyan's room had been modernized, the wardrobe still contained furniture from the last century, giving it an eerie feel no matter how one looked at it.
"Cough, cough... Yuxiu, let's go downstairs!" Jono immediately grabbed her bag and headed for the door, vowing never to return to this place again.
Fortunately, the downstairs area was much brighter, with the sunset streaming through the windows, which eased Jono's mind considerably.
She quickly prepared some food for Jin Chengyan, working at a rapid pace. With a thermal container in hand, she took Chuyu Xiu and headed out.
"Aunt-in-law, there's a child seat in the trunk!" Chuyu Xiu pointed to a white BMW parked in the lot, recalling that he had sat in it before.
Startled by Chuyu Xiu's earlier comment, Jono momentarily forgot about the child seat. She hurriedly placed her things in the passenger seat and retrieved the child seat from the trunk, installing it in the back seat.
Once she secured Chuyu Xiu's seatbelt, Jono returned to the driver's seat and drove out of Jin Mansion.
In the back seat, Chuyu Xiu seemed to be in high spirits, waving his hands and making various funny faces at the rearview mirror just for Jono!
As Jono thought about the old building that was Jin Mansion, she felt uneasy. She would be spending quite a bit of time in that old house alone; how frightening that would be!
Chuyu Xiu acted as if nothing had happened after mentioning that incident; he was quite mischievous for someone so young.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Chuyu Xiu eagerly dashed to Jin Chengyan's ward.
It was then that Jono remembered she had visited Jin Chengyan's room twice that day.
And now knowing that Xining had intentionally let Ruan Shengyu slap her, could she still face Jin Chengyan?
With these conflicting emotions swirling within her, Jono stepped into the ward.
Just as she reached the doorway, she heard laughter coming from inside.
"Uncle, Aunt-in-law is really too timid! When I told her about the ghost in the old house, her face went completely pale! Hahaha..." Chuyu Xiu's uproarious laughter echoed through the room.
Mingming had just been with Jono, and that guy was a little gentleman. But now, in front of Jin Chengyan, he acted like a little lunatic.
And to think she was scolded by a child for being timid...
How embarrassing!
"Chuyu Xiu, you can't bully my wife!" After laughing, Jin Chengyan surprisingly spoke seriously to his little nephew.
However, it was clear that Chuyu Xiu didn't take Jin Chengyan's words to heart.
"But you told me you wouldn't bully me! You're bullying me right now. I'm going to tell my mom, your big sister, and let her teach you a lesson!"
Jin Chengyan was speechless. What a difficult child. "Chuyu Xiu, as a man, you can't just run to tell your mom every time something happens. Only little girls do that."
Upon hearing this, Chuyu Xiu immediately changed his tone. "I'm not a girl! I won't tell my mom!"
Seeing Chuyu Xiu like this made Jin Chengyan laugh.
"You said Aunt-in-law came with you. Where is she?" Jin Chengyan wondered how Chuyu Xiu ended up with Jono.
But watching Chuyu Xiu interact with Jono, it seemed they got along quite well!
"I was too busy coming to see you! Aunt-in-law is following behind; she might have gotten lost!" Realizing the seriousness of the situation, Chuyu Xiu quickly shrank back down from the bed. "I need to find Aunt-in-law! If I lose her, you'll definitely blame me!"
Jin Chengyan couldn't help but chuckle.
But before Chuyu Xiu could run out, Jono stubbornly walked in.
Chuyu Xiu sighed in relief and earnestly said, "Aunt-in-law, from now on, don't wander off when you go out. Uncle will be very worried! Look at me; I never wander off!"
Jin Chengyan remained silent, his expression unreadable.
Jono also had nothing to say, caught off guard by the unexpected question.
Chuyu Xiu, completely oblivious to any awkwardness, shifted his gaze between Jono and Jin Chengyan. Suddenly, he asked, "Uncle, Aunt-in-law, don’t you two kiss when you meet? My mom and dad always kiss each other! Are you two fighting?"
In Chuyu Xiu's mind, a lack of kisses meant a troubled relationship.
"What do your parents do in front of you all day?" Jin Chengyan said helplessly. It seemed like it was time to remind his sister and brother-in-law to be more mindful and not show affection in front of the child!
"But Dad says you should kiss the people you love! You can pretend I’m not here; my mom and dad do that too when they kiss!"
Jono broke into a sweat. Chuyu Xiu was definitely a little troublemaker sent by the Jin family to stir things up.
"Cough... I brought you some pajamas," Jono attempted to change the subject, knowing that this little monkey wouldn’t let up otherwise.
Jin Chengyan was half-sitting on the bed. When he saw Jono approach, he stood up and walked over, placing the bag of clothes on the bed. Noticing a thermal container as well, likely filled with food she had brought, he casually set it on the table.
Meanwhile, Chuyu Xiu was craning his neck, watching his uncle closely to see if he would kiss Aunt-in-law.
The expression on his face made Jono feel both amused and exasperated.
Jin Chengyan seemed to understand that Chuyu Xiu wouldn’t give up easily. Perhaps he really was a little spy sent by the Jin family!
Standing in front of Jono, he reached out with one hand to cover Chuyu Xiu's eyes while pulling Jono closer by the back of her neck and kissing her softly.
"Woo… Uncle, let me see! You can pretend I’m air, but I want to watch!"
Jono found herself enveloped in Jin Chengyan’s presence while Chuyu Xiu’s persistent chatter filled her ears.
She thought it was just a fleeting kiss, but when she intended to pull away, he forcefully entered her mouth.
"Mm..." Jono pressed her hands against Jin Chengyan's chest. This man, didn't he realize there was a child present?
Yet he persisted, focused solely on his kiss.
The sounds below gradually faded, likely because Chuyu Xiu realized he couldn't see them kissing anymore. But he wondered why this kiss was taking so long.
Don't parents just kiss each other's cheeks? It should only take two seconds, and how many seconds had it been now?
Did Uncle and Aunt-in-law need to kiss for that long?
Jin Chengyan released Jono, resting his forehead against hers, gazing at her flushed lips as his fingers unconsciously brushed over them.
"How did I not know you were so timid?" Jin Chengyan had just heard Chuyu Xiu speak and couldn't imagine the expression on Jono's face at that moment.
He thought she should be fearless.
"There are many things you don't know." Whether it was sadness or something else, Jono felt the atmosphere between them stiffen a bit as she spoke.
Jin Chengyan had no idea how much Jono had been through.
"Uncle, are you done kissing?" Chuyu Xiu's voice snapped Jin Chengyan and Jono back to reality.
Jono took two steps back, looking at Chuyu Xiu, who was covering his eyes with Jin Chengyan's hand.
He released Chuyu Xiu and scooped him up into his arms, but he wasn't sure if the little guy had gotten heavier or if it was because Jin Chengyan was injured; it was clearly a bit of a struggle.
"Jin Chengyan..." Jono wanted to tell him not to push himself.
Jin Chengyan had no forced expression; he smiled as he hugged Chuyu Xiu and sat down by the bed.
"With such a big person like you standing there, how can you be air? You're small but full of spirit!" Jin Chengyan chided Chuyu Xiu.
Chuyu Xiu stuck out his tongue and quickly shrank back from Jin Chengyan's embrace, tugging at his clothes. "Uncle, Aunt-in-law just made a lot of delicious food, but she wants to bring it all to you. Can I have a little bit too?"
Jono felt three black lines appear on her forehead. Clearly, just earlier at Jin Mansion, she had asked Chuyu Xiu if he wanted to eat a little beforehand.
That little gentleman had firmly stated, "No, that's for Uncle. I can't eat the patient's food!"
Now, his true colors were showing!
"You can't eat; you're not sick," Jin Chengyan teased Chuyu Xiu.
"No, I'm sick!" Chuyu Xiu insisted earnestly, genuinely believing he was unwell.
"You're not sick!"
"No, I really am sick!"
Jono could hardly bear to watch. Was there really someone who would tease their own little nephew like this? Was it fair to bully someone who was just a child and didn’t understand? Forcing him to admit he was sick!
Meeting Jono's amused gaze, Jin Chengyan couldn't help but smile.
"Chuyu Xiu says he's sick; don't take it too seriously. This kid has a lot of tricks up his sleeve," Jin Chengyan said as he held Chuyu Xiu by the nape of his neck.
Only then did Jono realize that Jin Chengyan was getting back at her!
Because he had scared Jono earlier, he was now seeking revenge on his wife.
"Dear wife..."
Jono never expected Jin Chengyan to address her in such a casual manner. When she heard him say that at the door just now, her heart raced.
However, Chuyu Xiu didn’t care about being fooled by relatives; as long as she could enjoy delicious food, what did it matter? Eating well would cure any ailment!
Thus, most of the dinner Jono prepared for Jin Chengyan was devoured by Chuyu Xiu. It was unclear if it was because his family usually neglected him, but he ate with great enthusiasm!
He even exclaimed, "Aunt-in-law, your cooking is amazing! It's better than what our aunt makes and even better than what my mom cooks!"
Jin Chengyan tapped Chuyu Xiu on the head. "What your mom makes isn't even real food. You better not compare my wife's cooking to your mom's!"
"If you keep talking about my mom like that, I'm going to tell her and have my big sister teach you a lesson!"
"Chuyu Xiu, I've told you before, a man shouldn't run to his parents over every little thing."
"Aunt-in-law, how can your husband bully a little kid like this? Aren't you going to teach him a lesson?" Unable to argue with Jin Chengyan, Chuyu Xiu immediately sought help from Aunt-in-law.
Jono watched them interact and suddenly felt that this scene was truly beautiful; she didn't want to ruin it.
