Fat Ma was completely helpless, pinned down at the bottom of the water. Soon, he waved at me again, his eyes nearly bulging out of their sockets, indicating the urgency of the situation.
Although I hadn't caught my breath yet, I swam over and forcefully bumped into Water Zongzi. To my surprise, Water Zongzi floated away, allowing Fat Ma to thrash about as bubbles poured out of his mouth.
I patted Fat Ma, who had already raised his gun. After we exchanged a few gestures, I glanced around and realized that Water Zongzi had vanished without a trace.
I quickly turned to look behind me, but there was nothing—too many floating objects obscured my view, and my heart tightened with worry.
Fat Ma was holding the Submachine Gun, his eyes darting around frantically. There was no sign of Water Zongzi anywhere.
I pushed aside some nearby obstacles floating in the water; it was all dark and murky, with no hint of Water Zongzi left. It seemed he had escaped. I gestured to Fat Ma, indicating that Water Zongzi had gotten away!
Fat Ma gestured back at me, but I couldn't understand him. I shook my head; Fat Ma must have been tired from all the gesturing. He pulled out his oxygen mouthpiece and shouted in my ear, "It was Fat Master who took him away!" I barely caught that through the haze.
Fat Ma was chuckling as he put on his oxygen mask again, releasing another stream of bubbles.
I ignored him for a moment when suddenly…
My eyes widened in alarm as I kicked Fat Ma.
He stared at me in confusion, ready to express his anger when suddenly a pale, eerie claw emerged from the bubbles right in front of him.
Fat Ma hurriedly pressed himself against the water to dodge it while I quickly retreated, colliding with several floating objects along the way that slowed me down.
As the Water Zongzi lunged at me, I realized there was no escaping it. My agility in the water was nowhere near what it was on land. I intended to kick, but before I knew it, I had lost my balance and fell into the water.
Instinctively, I raised my hands to shield myself, but it was futile. I was pinned against the deck of the boat, my heart and lungs twisting in a chaotic knot. In that moment, I kicked at it, but it twisted its body and evaded my strike.
Damn, its body moved with a grace akin to clothes soaked in river water.
It gripped my hand tightly, baring its fangs. A chill ran down my spine, from the top of my head to my toes.
Struggling to turn my head, I noticed Fat Ma still hadn’t reacted. The fangs of the Water Zongzi were dangerously close to my skin.
I twisted and fought with all my might, but it felt as if my hands were clamped in iron pincers.
I was out of options; I could feel my arms growing weak, my elbows pinned against my chest.
My eyes locked onto those of the Water Zongzi. It had no eyeballs—only whites—and its skin was torn and tattered. The sight was enough to make anyone nauseous.
Damn, I cursed inwardly.
Finally, I could hold on no longer. The Water Zongzi bit down hard, and in that split second, I summoned every last ounce of strength to jerk my head away. Its teeth sank into the deck instead, breaking through it and getting stuck.
It thrashed violently, and in that moment of distraction, I seized the opportunity to break free, feeling a rush of survival wash over me.
I hurriedly swam over to Fat Ma's side. He seemed to be choking on water, struggling with his hefty body.
Obstructed by floating debris, I couldn’t get a clear view of Fat Ma’s full figure.
As I navigated through layers of obstacles, I was stunned to see a Water Ghost entangled with Fat Ma. Upon noticing my arrival, Fat Ma gestured frantically for help!
Without hesitation, I rushed forward and pulled at Fat Ma, but it was futile; the Water Ghost was completely wrapped around Fat Ma's back.
I swam to Fat Ma's rear and yanked at the Water Ghost with all my might.
The Water Ghost turned its head, and damn, it had a skull-like face that sent me stumbling back a few steps in fright.
The Water Ghost twisted its head again and rewrapped itself around Fat Ma. I took a deep breath to calm myself, suppressing my fear, and charged forward. Ignoring the horror, I grabbed the Water Ghost's hair and yanked its head to the side, pulling with all my strength.
At that moment, Fat Ma also sprang into action, striking the Water Ghost with the butt of her gun. The Water Ghost shrieked in pain, and I pulled harder until it finally released its grip on Fat Ma.
Seeing the situation, I quickly let go and retreated hastily. The Water Ghost floated in place while Fat Ma aimed her Submachine Gun at it. However, to my shock, the Submachine Gun suddenly jammed. It had failed.
From the exaggerated shape of Fat Ma's mouth and the bubbles forming around her, I knew she was cursing up a storm.
Realizing that her Submachine Gun was useless, Fat Ma turned to flee.
When I saw her running away, I didn't hesitate either.
As we were escaping, I glanced back and saw Fat Ma returning. I was taken aback as she followed the Water Ghost and a Water Zongzi.
What bad luck! I thought to myself.
I hurriedly found an exit from the cabin and began swimming outside, with Fat Ma trailing behind me.
As I stepped outside, I bumped into the Mud Man.
The Mud Man and Brother Jiang were examining the hull of the boat. I cursed under my breath, damn, you two are really interested.
Fat Ma quickly ran out as well. I was exhausted, but upon seeing them, I paused.
Fat Ma faced me directly. I glanced behind and didn’t see any of their shadows, which made me relax a bit.
At that moment, Brother Jiang moved, swimming behind Fat Ma and pulling out the Water Ghost from behind him. Fat Ma reacted quickly, darting over to my side with wide eyes, patting his chest; he was clearly quite frightened.
When I looked back, the Water Ghost had already stopped moving, lying horizontally and suspended in mid-air.
Is it dead? I asked the Mud Man with my eyes! The Mud Man nodded. That’s impressive! Fat Ma and I had struggled for quite a while without resolving it.
In just a few seconds, it was done for.
Fat Ma and I stared at him in astonishment as Brother Jiang sheathed his knife. Then he swam into the Cabin. I hurried after him, wanting to inform him that there was still a Water Zongzi inside.
Brother Jiang gestured at me to stop signaling and nodded, indicating that I didn’t need to gesture anymore. I wasn’t sure if he understood what I meant.
But since he wouldn’t let me speak, I had no choice but to stop.
Brother Jiang had already entered the Cabin. Fat Ma, being fearless like a dead pig not afraid of boiling water, followed right behind him while I brought up the rear.
Once inside, I deliberately kept an eye out for the shadow of the Water Zongzi, but it was completely empty.
The Cabin fell silent after a moment, with all the floating objects moving in an orderly manner.
Brother Jiang moved slowly, and the three of us followed behind him, as he was far too strong.
After a while, nothing unusual happened, so we dispersed again. Fat Ma signaled for me to follow him.
Seeing the smile on his face, I knew something good was about to happen.
I greeted the Mud Man, who also came along, while Brother Jiang continued to explore alone.
On either side of the Cabin were more rooms, none of which had their doors opened. I understood Fat Ma's intentions as he approached one room and gently pushed the door open with his hand.
We entered one by one, and inside the room, floating objects hung just like in the Cabin's lobby. The most eye-catching was a large bed that floated in mid-air. It was wrapped in red silk, though it had already begun to fade to a pale color.
There was also a dressing table and similar items; this must have been a woman's Ghost Tribe room, I thought to myself.
Fat Ma was sensitive to treasures and quickly found a piece of copper mirror from the Cabin's deck. He waved it towards us.
Due to the lighting, I could see my reflection clearly in the mirror.
Fat Ma waved it again, and my reflection disappeared once more.
There was also a dressing box; undoubtedly, this was a boudoir. After rummaging around for a while, aside from Fat Ma acquiring the copper mirror, there was nothing else of value that warranted our stay in this room.
We stepped back out and saw Brother Jiang still wandering around in the Cabin's lobby.
I just went through it with Fat Ma. Aside from a water ghost and a Water Zongzi, it was mostly just floating debris.
Fat Ma gestured to Brother Jiang, and surprisingly, Brother Jiang followed him over.
Once he arrived, he looked at me.
Fat Ma signaled to me, and I was puzzled. What was going on?
Brother Jiang made a few gestures towards me. I must say, his hand signs were spot on; we understood immediately. It seemed to mean that he wanted to know if I had something to say.
At first, I didn’t react, but then I realized that Fat Ma was up to his usual tricks again.
However, to be honest, I did have something to say. So I told him to try not to separate; it would be safer that way. Fat Ma gave me a thumbs up.
In the end, Brother Jiang had no objections, and the four of us gathered together. This was the safest formation.
Fat Ma's Submachine Gun had become ineffective after being submerged in water, so finding a larger shelter was crucial. Having seen Brother Jiang's previous tactics, I knew no one was more suitable than him.
Mainly because there was still a Water Zongzi lurking somewhere in the Cabin, waiting for the right moment!
Fat Ma conveyed to Brother Jiang that we should open all the rooms.
After understanding the message, Brother Jiang didn’t express any disagreement; it was as if he silently agreed.
