My gaze had clearly changed, and Professor Sun knew exactly what that meant. After a moment of contemplation, he asked, "What do you want to know?"
Hearing those words, I realized the real negotiation had begun. I no longer hesitated and stated directly, "I need the specific location of the Ghostly Heavenly Palace."
As I spoke, I remained calm on the surface, but inside, I was a whirlwind of emotions. Zhang Tong opened his mouth, feeling somewhat dry, while the drunken Fat Ma had sobered up considerably.
Professor Sun was relatively calm as he replied, "What will you offer in exchange?"
He squinted at me, and for some reason, it gave me a sense of déjà vu.
"The key to unlock the Ghostly Heavenly Palace."
Professor Sun pondered for a moment before saying, "However, I will need to arrange the personnel. What do you think?"
Before I could respond, the Fat Ma interjected, "Don't try that. If all your people are involved and conflicts arise, you could just deal with us at will."
Professor Sun's expression grew serious. "What I mean is that all personnel must be mine; you won't need to go."
"What?" I was taken aback.
"We provide the information and you won't allow us to go?" The Fat Ma's expression was exaggerated as he questioned.
"That's right. Just name your price."
After a quick glance around, Fat Ma was about to state his price when I preemptively said, "I don't agree."
"Why not?"
"There are too many uncertainties hidden inside; I want to unveil it myself."
Fat Ma paused as well and immediately shifted his stance, saying earnestly, "Old Sun has a point."
Professor Sun frowned slightly, and for a moment, everyone fell silent.
After a while, Fat Ma muttered, "Old Sun, I think this old man has no intention of making a deal with us. We might as well look for someone else."
Fat Ma spoke so casually, but I understood that finding someone knowledgeable about the Ghostly Heavenly Palace was not easy. It would be a stroke of luck to find even one person, and Professor Sun had decades of experience in this pursuit. He likely had already grasped some crucial details about the Ghostly Heavenly Palace.
Why waste time searching far and wide when we had something right in front of us? I was eager to unravel everything; surely many mysteries would surface on the Water Surface.
I continued to wait patiently for Professor Sun's response.
"Alright then. Xiao Zhang, you take the two of them back to rest. Come to my office tomorrow," he said.
"Does that mean you agree?" I asked.
"We'll discuss it more in the office tomorrow."
Zhang Tong nodded in acknowledgment, and I didn’t press further, as I sensed a hint of fatigue in Professor Sun's voice. I pulled Fat Ma along as we headed outside.
The car was waiting for us, and we got in.
I turned to Zhang Tong and asked, "Is this reliable?"
Zhang Tong's expression turned slightly serious. "Professor Sun may have a peculiar temperament, but he never goes back on his word. You can rest assured about that."
"But the key point is he hasn't agreed yet; he just asked us to come to his office."
"Don't rush. Everything will be revealed tomorrow."
"Old Sun, what are you afraid of? Without that Bronze Fish in your hands, they won't be able to accomplish anything," Fat Ma said, almost lounging in his seat, half-closing his eyes as he spoke. His voice quickly faded away.
The car drove steadily toward our hotel, and the night view of Beijing City was quite beautiful. The window was half-open, and a cool breeze flowed in, refreshing us considerably.
In the night, with lights shimmering and stars dotting the sky, Zhang Tong collected his thoughts and said to me while driving, "You should take some time to explore Beijing City."
"Sure!" I replied enthusiastically.
Zhang Tong smiled, and I couldn't help but smile back.
Upon arriving at the hotel, I helped the chubby guy out of the car and dragged him into his room. Zhang Tong bid farewell and left.
I returned to my own room.
Sitting idly at the edge of the bed, my mind was blank. Suddenly, a heat surged in my chest, and I couldn't help but get up and rush to the bathroom sink, where I spat out a mouthful of fresh blood.
Damn, could it be that my previous injury hasn't healed yet?
I wiped the blood from the corner of my mouth. Looking at myself in the mirror, I noticed my face was unusually pale, like starch washed in water.
After splashing some water on my face, I returned to my room, mentally reassuring myself that it was just a minor issue, nothing to worry about.
Through the window, I gazed outside at a city that never sleeps.
I don't know when it happened, but sleepiness overtook me, and I dozed off. Suddenly, Hills approached me while I found myself on a massive Floating Bridge.
This time, I could clearly see what lay across the Floating Bridge: a gigantic palace. However, it was shrouded in thick mist, so I could only make out its general outline.
As I moved forward cautiously, I suddenly felt disoriented. I had completely lost my sense of direction; the wind howled over the sheer cliff nearby while the Floating Bridge swayed slightly beneath my feet.
Taking another step forward, I suddenly sensed a sound coming from behind me. I quickly turned around and saw that the bridge's support beams were slowly cracking apart.
