The Fat Ma said that in our line of work, it's all about qualifications and seniority. Those without status simply cannot speak at this moment. The atmosphere grew a bit tense, and at that time, the mysterious figure spoke again: "After the mission is completed, the conditions I promised you will be doubled!" His voice was low, but it had a significant impact.
Of course, there were also interests involved in this.
"Alright, alright! That's not what we meant!"
"Don't be so damn self-righteous; you want to act like a saint after doing what you did!" someone mocked. The person being ridiculed didn't mind; after laughing a few times, he pretended not to hear. In our line of work, we often hear words that don't sit well with us; when we do, we just treat them as nonsense.
With that, things settled down.
The team set off again. After putting away their complaints, the speed of the entire group picked up once more.
This Bronze Tomb Passage had been traversed for at least two kilometers by now, and ahead, even with flashlights, we couldn't find an end. I felt there was still some distance to go. As we descended further, I couldn't shake off my unease. After all, I had encountered similar situations before. While I hadn't believed it back then, the current circumstances made me doubt everything.
Strangely enough, after the conditions were agreed upon, the others remained quiet and unnervingly calm, like a military unit focused on its mission.
The Mud Man and Fat Ma also kept their voices down, and the mood of the entire team felt like it had plunged into a deep valley—somewhat oppressive. Zhang Tong walked beside me, silent as a still lake. The Bronze-constructed tomb passage extended for so long that it suddenly reminded me of the ancient Epang Palace, which stretched for three hundred miles continuously. Perhaps that was an exaggeration, but time had passed for a quarter of an hour already.
Due to my injuries, I couldn't help but cough a few times. Zhang Tong reacted like a startled bird and quickly asked about my condition. I bitterly shook my head while observing Zhang Tong's expression; my heart felt adrift.
"As long as you're fine," he said.
The sound of "hm" quickly faded away.
Once again, a deathly silence enveloped the place, broken only by the sound of footsteps striking the ground. The walls, made of Bronze, had begun to develop a green patina, and a faint metallic scent lingered in the air. Time had passed, and the former splendor was long gone.
As I pondered this, the name Professor Sun floated back into my mind when suddenly someone shouted, "It's coming out! It's coming out!" The excitement in their voice was unmistakable!
This statement stirred everyone's emotions; they surged forward, and Old Ghost and Fat Ma pushed through the crowd to reach the front.
It was a tomb chamber. As I stepped inside, it confirmed our earlier speculation: we had not encountered anything sinister.
Upon arriving at this tomb chamber, I felt a sense of relief. It was also made of Bronze, but what surprised us was that this chamber had two levels! However, it wasn't like modern buildings with upper and lower floors.
Instead, after we descended into the tomb chamber, a pit appeared before us, occupying half of the space. We turned on our flashlights to shine down into it, but the light failed to reach the bottom. We were all astonished! Amidst our surprise, joy mingled with worry in our hearts.
After all, the unknown held a certain allure for us; the mysteries within the Tomb could very well indicate that treasures awaited us inside! Everyone formed a circle, their gazes fixed on the Pit.
In truth, we were all waiting for someone to make a decision! Fat Ma had already begun calculating his own little scheme in his mind!
