The Seven-Colored Underworld Insect and the Dark Turmoil Period were once sensational sacred artifacts of Miaojiang, the King of All Insects, capable of both harming and healing. It is said to be a treasure left behind by the Shaman of Miaojiang thousands of years ago, later buried together in the old land of Miaojiang during the Dark Turmoil.
The art of witchcraft has caused great harm; throughout history, whether in imperial dynasties or Daoist sects, everyone feared it like a tiger. Even the Dao Sovereign from the Dark Turmoil Period nearly perished from poison in his youth. Therefore, when the Dao Sovereign obtained the Daoist Command Token, his first act was to eradicate all tribes of Miaojiang, regardless of good or evil. He wiped them all out.
For a hundred years, no witchcraft flourished. Even if some techniques had fallen into the world, no one dared to practice them until over twenty years ago when I fell victim to the Blood Poison Curse secretly cast by the Old Scholar. However, this Blood Poison Curse leaned more towards poison rather than witchcraft since there were no insects within me.
Now, hundreds of insects had burrowed into Guo Huaiyi's body. Guo Huaiyi said, "The insects inside me are temporarily sealed. Those Miaojiang Grand Shamans are merely following Song Qianqiu's orders and have not cast any spells on me; otherwise, I would already be dead. The Dao Qi within me only accelerates my death, so please do not input any more Dao Qi into my body for now."
"Alright, you rest well. Once Old Guo returns, we will discuss our plans further. If we fail to retrieve the Seven-Colored Underworld Insect, I will find a way to keep you alive and help you expel all the insects from your body." I pressed on Guo Huaiyi's sleeping acupoint.
After Guo Huaiyi fell asleep, I closed the door and stepped outside with everyone. Huzi said, "Uncle Yang and Aunt Jiyao still haven't returned. Five went to Qilian Mountain and hasn't come back either. Even Zhou Manman hasn't returned; I wonder if they have encountered danger."
I couldn't help but feel worried as well; I had no idea where Yang Sanqian and Jiyao were. They had been in the Mahayana Realm for many years; if they encountered danger, they should be able to escape without anyone being able to stop them. As for Five, he was only at the Dao Fruit Realm now. Although he possessed the Linglong Pagoda, his power could not compare to that of someone in the Mahayana Realm. My greatest concern was for Zhou Manman’s safety. She had gone to the South Sea to retrieve the Book of Life and Death; if Old Scholar still coveted it and used Divination Technique along with the Great Zhou Compass to predict Zhou Manman's location for interception, she would surely be in grave danger. Thinking about this made me feel guilty.
Since meeting me, Zhou Manman had never encountered anything good; she had always been alone. Finally managing to become a disciple of Miao Guanyin, she lost her mentor so soon after her passing, with her body controlled by Guo Huaiyi's Demon King's Scripture. I remembered how dependent she was; she was even more fragile than Yunxi.
If Zhou Manman were in danger, she should have crushed the Jade Talisman I gave each person. If they encountered peril, breaking it would summon me instantly using my Time Walk technique.
At that moment, in an ancient cave somewhere on the western frontier, Nangong and Yu Youya stood at the center of the cave before an ancient Taoist altar. The altar was engraved with some ancient and mysterious runes that resembled a sundial at first glance but were filled with obscure texts.
Surrounding the cave walls were totems left by ancestors from ancient times.
There were nine sides to these totems, each depicting a giant bird. The content on these totems narrated a war between humans and these giant birds; cycling through to the last depiction pointed towards the altar in the center.
On top of the altar, one could vaguely see a figure holding a bow with a cauldron behind him.
"Master, the treasure map hidden within the Shuttle. The contents of the map lead us here; clearly, this is the story of Hou Yi shooting down the suns. Could it be guiding us to find the Sun-Shooting Divine Bow?" Yu Youya asked.
Nangong Dao replied, "The Sun-Shooting Divine Bow cannot be moved by anyone. It has been missing for thousands of years. The Shuttle is our Sacred Artifact; that old fellow has long studied the treasure map inside. This is not the first time someone has come here. If there were any Treasure, he would have found it long ago. Why would it fall to me?"
"What does this mean then? What about these patterns..." Yu Youya said, tracing his fingers over the engravings on the altar. When he touched the totem of the Cauldron, he noticed a fine groove filled with dust.
Yu Youya quickly blew into it, clearing out all the dust from the groove. Nangong frowned as he examined the shape of the groove and inserted the Shuttle into it.
The altar began to rotate. The totem lit up, flames surged, and both Nangong and Yu Youya closed their eyes, feeling as if the ground was spinning beneath them, a deafening roar echoing above, as if a cave was about to collapse.
Above the altar, the void cracked open, and the Sun Refining Cauldron slowly floated out from the emptiness, landing atop the altar.
On the surface of the Sun Refining Cauldron, runes of Nine Dragons illuminated, swirling around the Cauldron in circles as ancient inscriptions floated out and surrounded them in midair.
"It’s the Sun Refining Technique! Master, it’s the Sun Refining Technique!" Yu Youya exclaimed excitedly.
Nangong's face also showed signs of excitement. The Sun Refining Technique, also known as the Nine Sun True Formula, was a cultivation method formed from the ashes of nine Golden Crows during ancient times when refiners forged Cauldrons. Many sought this method passed down from the Golden Crow clan's ancestors, rumored to grant power surpassing that of nine suns and possessing destructive capabilities.
Years ago, in the mountains surrounding Mount Tai, Nangong Lin ambushed Huzi, intending to refine him with the Sun Refining Cauldron. After Yang Hao killed Nangong Lin, everyone scrambled for the Sun Refining Cauldron, but it vanished into thin air.
Now, summoned from within this cave, the Sun Refining Cauldron appeared along with its corresponding Cultivation Method.
The Old Master of the Serpent Cult, Nangong Yun, spent nearly his entire life trying to retrieve the Sun Refining Cauldron from the Fulong Formation. He sought Elder Changxi of Qingliang Mountain to break the Fulong Formation. After many years of searching for formation experts to help him dismantle it and release its seal to extract the Sun Refining Cauldron.
He had already opened the treasure map within the Shuttle and knew that the altar and totems inside were closely related to the Sun Refining Cauldron. However, without breaking the Fulong Formation, he could not bring forth the Sun Refining Cauldron from within it. Who would have thought that after breaking through Fulong Formation, he would be harmed by an Evil Weapon and completely lose his cultivation due to being corrupted by a demonic Zen Bodhisattva, leaving him with regrets?
Now, the Shuttle was inserted into the altar's groove, summoning the Sun Refining Cauldron that had drilled into the void, while also allowing Nangong to see the Cultivation Method inscribed on the Sun Refining Cauldron. This was the route of divine luck formed by the ancient Golden Crow after its death!
Yu Youya, merely at the Nascent Soul Realm, knew he should not gaze upon such extraordinary feats. He lowered his head and exited the cave, leaving Nangong alone to observe.
After Yu Youya stepped out of the cave, he looked at the desolate land outside and couldn't help but question his life.
For many years, he had finally found a place to utilize his skills. Back then, he had assisted Nangong in standing out among Nangong Yun's many sons, but now he was aging. Faced with the overwhelming situation, he remained at the Nascent Soul Realm and felt utterly useless. Meanwhile, Nangong was alone; if he were to leave, he wondered if Nangong would blame him.
Inside the cave, laughter echoed from Nangong, tinged with a hint of arrogance.
At this moment, within the Secret Cave of the Yin Mountain Underground Palace, the Old Scholar was wrapped in the roots of the Blood Tree. His blood energy surged as the Great Zhou Compass floated in mid-air, its runes shifting and continuously reflecting scenes from below.
Everywhere were floating corpses and Yin Soldiers.
The Old Scholar opened his eyes, a sense of foreboding filling his heart. He made calculations with his right hand using divination techniques while reciting incantations. He saw a scene of corpses strewn across the ground below; everyone had turned into Corpse Demons. In the end, countless Corpse Demons and Yin Soldiers besieged Yin Mountain, led by Song Qianqiu.
Behind Song Qianqiu stood experts from both the Supreme and Mahayana Realms arranged in two rows.
The Old Scholar was startled; with a slight shift in thought, the Blood Tree's tendrils withdrew, releasing him. He coldly declared, "If you dare to target this Old Man in the end, then this Old Man will first extinguish you bastards."
Standing atop a tree stump, a Daoist Robe hanging on the wall of the Secret Cave floated towards him and wrapped around his body. The dark incantations on him faded away. Gripping the Great Zhou Compass, he stepped forward and appeared above Yinshan Imperial Hall.
The Old Scholar conjured a Void Barrier before him; the barrier rippled like water, reflecting Yang Xuanzong's Light Shadow. The Old Scholar said, "If you've had enough wandering outside, come back quickly while I'm still calm. Don't make me come find you myself."
Yang Xuanzong looked up, bewildered and terrified as he gazed into the sky.
The Old Scholar waved his hand, and the Light Shadow vanished, revealing the location of Song Qianqiu. The Old Scholar manipulated the runes on the Great Zhou Compass and stepped into the Light Shadow, coming within a hundred feet of Song Qianqiu.
Song Qianqiu stood in a Mountain Valley, before him lay ancient coffins, each one opened to reveal perfectly preserved corpses, all exuding an otherworldly aura, clearly the remains of ancient Taoist masters.
Song Qianqiu laughed heartily as he looked at the coffins. "These individuals are no ordinary experts; they are all ancient figures with Taoist Sacred Bodies, each at least at the Mahayana Realm. Their physical forms did not decay after death. I refuse to believe that so many powerful beings could not deal with a few remnants of Daoist Sects!"
He laughed again, and behind him stood the White-Robed Old Scholar, Miao Guanyin, Meng Xuanjian, Emei Sect Leader Miao Shengnan, Dead Tree and Withered Heart Monk from Leiyin Temple, along with Haikong, the abbot of Leiyin Temple. Their eyes had no pupils, and their expressions were somewhat stiff.
Above the Mountain Valley, the Old Scholar adjusted the Great Zhou Compass. The Light Shadow shifted as the Great Zhou Compass enveloped everything, sealing the entire Mountain Valley in place.
"Hmm?" Song Qianqiu frowned slightly as he looked toward the Mountain Valley.
The Old Scholar stood up, looking down at Song Qianqiu. "You think this old man can't deal with you?"
"You old fool, I wasn't looking for you, yet you dared to come find me first!" Song Qianqiu replied disdainfully.
