As for Zhao Yang, even the Mystic Warrior was at a loss. He showed no signs of life, and despite the efforts of the abbot of Xuanfo Temple, there was nothing more that could be done. No one wanted to accept this outcome.
It was as if immortality existed; no one in this world could bring the dead back to life.
However, what was strange was that his Qi Sea had not dissipated, and his Divine Sense still faintly lingered.
No one could actively enter Zhao Yang's Sea of Consciousness, but those who had reached a certain level of cultivation could observe within his Qi Sea.
His Chaotic Root, Perfect Foundation Cauldron, Haotian Pill, and immense Primordial Spirit were all sensed by the Mystic Warrior.
The Little Beast remained curled up in Zhao Yang's arms, sobbing. It had come to see Zhao Yang as family, as its pillar of support.
A month later, everyone gradually awoke. Song Baliang and Nangong Wuxin arrived at Zhao Yang's Meditation Room. They looked at the sleeping Zhao Yang on the bed and the Little Beast still crying beside him, rendered speechless.
The Four Great Monks had also healed from their injuries. They gazed at the Little Beast resting on Zhao Yang, unsure of what to say. Everyone stepped forward to comfort the Little Beast; even the Giant Toad occasionally croaked softly in an attempt to soothe it.
No one knew that during the time the Little Beast cried, countless beasts and spirit creatures across the Five Elements Continent were filled with unease.
Some Ancient Beasts that had been dormant for ages awakened from their slumber.
Later, the Consort of Rain also regained consciousness. Her White Hair began to slowly turn black again, and her aged features gradually became youthful.
Yu Qingsnow from the Lunar Snow Lotus also awoke from a long sleep. She looked sorrowfully at Zhao Yang lying quietly on the bed, remaining silent throughout.
And the Little Beast continued to weep.
Zhao Yang's condition was peculiar at that moment. Everyone could sense that his Qi Sea remained intact, and his Divine Sense did not dissipate, as if he had lost his soul, leaving only his physical body behind.
Yet, the body showed no signs of life; blood did not flow, there was no pulse or heartbeat, and he did not breathe.
His shattered bones and meridians had all recovered to their original state, even stronger than before, but he just could not wake up.
The Little Beast was very familiar with Zhao Yang. It knew everything about him. It rummaged through Zhao Yang's belongings, pulling out various Elixirs to feed him. It even retrieved the exquisite Holy Medicine, the Tricolor Sacred Lotus, that Zhao Yang had previously harvested. The others tried to comfort it, but it was not out of pity for the Holy Medicine; the Tricolor Sacred Lotus was meant for healing injuries and could enhance cultivation, allowing a dying person to reach their peak state instantly, but it would be of no use now.
However, the Little Beast insisted. After Zhao Yang consumed the Tricolor Sacred Lotus, there was still no reaction. The Little Beast then took out the Supreme Great Rejuvenation Pill from Zhao Yang's belongings. It pried open Zhao Yang's mouth and placed the pill inside, urging him to swallow it.
Zhao Yang remained unresponsive.
The Little Beast cried out in despair, making whimpering sounds like a small child. It nuzzled against Zhao Yang's hand and cheek, still curled up in his embrace while sleeping, hoping that one day it would wake up to find Zhao Yang holding it close and calling it Little Nine.
But Zhao Yang never woke up.
Three months later, the Little Beast disappeared without anyone knowing where it had gone. However, half a month later, it returned carrying a bag filled with exquisite spiritual herbs and Holy Fruits—more than a dozen kinds. It stuffed all the herbs and Holy Fruits into Zhao Yang's mouth, trying to make him eat them.
Everyone watched as day after day passed by; there were still no signs of Zhao Yang waking up.
Another three months went by. In the state where Xuanfo Temple was located, beasts howled around it. Some powerful monsters explained to the Little Beast that there were no Holy Fruits left in the vicinity.
A full year later, the Little Beast continued to insist on feeding Zhao Yang strange herbs and Holy Fruits.
Then one day, the Little Beast excitedly called everyone over. It had found a very special fruit from its own abdomen area. The aura emanating from this fruit was richer than any Holy Medicine it had found before and contained a powerful life force.
The fruit was discovered by the Little Beast at the bottom of the Earth Spirit Spring during their time in the Haotian Secret Realm. There were two fruits in total; it ate one and hid the other in the fur on its belly. After consuming it, the Little Beast fell into a deep sleep.
However, to everyone's disappointment, Zhao Yang still did not awaken.
Aside from a slight flush returning to his face, there was no other change.
The Little Beast cried sorrowfully, its ears drooping as it turned back three times before disappearing from sight. Its speed was faster than a shooting star, and it never returned thereafter.
Two years passed.
The Central State Royal Family was severely weakened after the battle involving the Consort of Rain. A person claiming to be from the former Zhao Clan Imperial Family began hunting down everyone related to the royal family and those who participated in that battle, causing a bloody storm in the imperial city.
The Central Sovereign was assassinated several times but managed to escape each time.
In response, the Central Sovereign ordered the Guardian Divine Army stationed at the borders to return to the royal city. By using both persuasion and coercion, he demanded that various cities surrender their strongest combat powers to bolster the royal family's military strength. The Consort of Rain intervened, warning each city that if any dared to borrow troops, she would destroy them.
Some cities did not believe her threat, only to find out when the Consort of Rain acted decisively, annihilating the lord's residences of three cities and installing new lords in their place.
Only the Consort of Rain dared to act this way; had it not been for Sun Daoren's concern that humanity would suffer greatly from unchecked warfare, she would have already attacked the imperial city.
However, the people within the cities were not fools. They understood that if they followed the Central Sovereign's wishes, they would be killed by the Consort of Rain; if they did not comply with him, they would face his wrath. Thus, they began to delay borrowing troops.
The Central State Royal Family had lost far too many lives due to the battle with the Consort of Rain. The new generation was simply incapable of handling all that had been managed by their deceased predecessors. The situation in Zhongzhou was chaotic, and the Central Sovereign found himself overwhelmed, relying solely on Old God General and a young Mo God General for national defense amidst internal and external troubles.
The border regions of Zhongzhou also began to descend into chaos.
Finally, in the Zhongzhou Continent, small nations began to revolt. They gathered wave after wave of cultivator armies to assault the defenses of Zhongzhou.
In every region—Eastern Region, Western Region, Southern Region, and Northern Region—there were nations inhabited by the human race. For many years, they had paid tribute annually but had never received support from Zhongzhou, living a life of hardship and suffering. Even though some had cultivators among them, it did not change their dire circumstances. The weapons produced by certain nations possessed formidable lethality against cultivators.
While various nations were embroiled in fierce battles, the demon race began its invasion.
The powerful demons started to attack the smaller nations, launching assaults on various sects and occupying their bases.
Soon, the land of Zhongzhou was tainted by the demons. These formidable demons boasted the strongest combat power and physical strength among their ranks, and they were numerous, large in size, and immensely powerful. It was rare for cultivators of the same level to defeat them.
The righteous and demonic forces in Zhongzhou were on the brink of war, with countless lives lost in the conflict. Inevitably, Xuanfo Temple had to organize its disciples to eliminate the demon invaders.
Every day, many people died; there were simply too many demons. Some among them were exceptionally skilled at disguise, able to blend in as ordinary people and launch surprise attacks on cultivators. Even powerful figures like Song Baliang and Nangong Wuxin had nearly lost their lives on one occasion.
Yu Qingsnow and Liu Rou returned daily to check on Zhao Yang, hoping that he would awaken. Long Xiao Wu and Song Baliang would occasionally visit Zhao Yang as well.
Over the past two years, people seemed to have grown accustomed to Zhao Yang's unresponsiveness.
Meanwhile, Little Beast had not made an appearance.
Until one day, Liu Rou discovered that Zhao Yang's bed was empty—Zhao Yang was missing.
