At the school gate, Freyr and Su Qian met, surrounded by silence. The bodyguards waited in their extended car, while the gatekeeper smoked a cigarette, acting like a bystander, occasionally whistling playfully. Freyr couldn't help but blush and found a topic to break the ice. "Why are you wearing such an outfit? Trying to be sexy? You must be planning to wear it for me when I get home." 0

Su Qian shot him a glance before changing her expression. "What are you thinking? I have good news and bad news. Which one do you want to hear first?" 0

Freyr hesitated for a moment, thinking to himself that he hoped it wasn't anything too serious. In her world, there was no distinction between good and bad news; bad news was simply bad news, and good news could just as easily turn out to be bad. The thought of bad news felt like an impending disaster. 0

"Let's hear the bad news first!" 0

Su Qian raised an eyebrow. "Oh, I thought you'd want to hear the good news first." 0

Freyr swallowed hard and retorted, "Isn't that what you were thinking? Why even ask me?" 0

Su Qian stuck out her tongue playfully. "The bad news is that you won't be able to eat my cooking tonight because I have to study." 0

Freyr was taken aback; this was not what he had imagined. Su Qian had dropped out of high school—what university would accept someone like her? Even if college life seemed comfortable, the subjects were undoubtedly more challenging than high school. Without the refined logic of a senior year student, surviving in a competitive university environment would be tough. After all, universities were filled with strong contenders, and even someone like Freyr felt a bit insecure. 0

Studying? It wasn't necessarily a bad thing. Since she wanted to learn, her family's resources could help her get into a decent college. Staying at home might not be wise; the instability could lead to dire consequences in the coming years. Freyr recalled how Su Qian had once fallen victim to a swarm of pests—it seemed that pursuing higher education might not be such a bad idea after all. 0

Freyr clenched his teeth and thought quickly for a moment, gradually revealing a look of confusion in his eyes. "Studying is indeed a good thing. But which major do you think suits you? Your courses will determine your future job." 0

A gentle breeze swept by. 0

Su Qian hesitated for a moment as she noticed the sadness in his eyes and lowered her head. 0

"Of course I've chosen! Just look at my outfit—I'm going to be a nurse! It's medical school! The good news is that we might become comrades and classmates." She said this calmly. 0

"Classmates? Could it be Noah? Are you coming here to study too?" 0

Freyr looked closely at the girl in front of him, gasping in surprise as his face lit up with astonishment. Seeing her husband’s reaction made Su Qian smile; it was just as she had guessed—anyone hearing this news would surely be shocked. 0

"Yes, the Department of Biomedical Medicine and Human Function at Noah University." 0

The subjects seemed to have no overlap; Biomedical Medicine and Human Function was clearly a required course for future military doctors. The logic behind this subject was quite complex, involving biochemical surgeries where a single mistake in the procedure could cost lives. 0

However, Su Qian still chose this most difficult course. 0

"You want to become a military doctor? How could you make such a big decision without discussing it with me?" Freyr exclaimed in surprise. 0

"I wanted to talk to you, but you were in a coma for a month. Who was I supposed to ask? Besides, I considered many majors, and this one will obviously help our baby in the future. After two years, family members can be promoted to citizen status, and we can all move to a safer inland area," Su Qian explained, her clear eyes glistening slightly as if she had come to terms with some things during that month. 0

"Is it for me?" Freya thought quietly. 0

Freyr fell silent, feeling a mix of emotions as he wrapped his arms around her and led her into the car. Su Qian could sense the sadness emanating from the man beside her. She also felt that he wanted to protect her, and she knew that her decision stemmed from her fear of him getting hurt on the battlefield without a skilled surgeon available for treatment. 0

The mindset of this generation had changed significantly compared to decades ago. Many people longed for peace and disliked violence. Various religions had emerged in the inland areas, seeking peaceful negotiations with the Zerg, worshipping them as if they were gods. 0

Especially since soldiers on the front lines experienced the harsh realities of bloodshed, the profession of battlefield surgeon was extremely dangerous and had one of the highest mortality rates. Therefore, many individuals chose their fields carefully to avoid medical professions that could lead them directly into combat situations. 0

Despite being a risky profession, high risk often came with high rewards. For the sake of their futures, some were willing to take those risks. 0

Inside the car, Freyr sat quietly while the driver, wearing sunglasses, occasionally glanced back at them. The bodyguard sat on the other side to avoid interrupting their conversation. Freyr sat at the back with Su Qian resting her head on his shoulder, feeling warmth radiating from his solid muscles. For a woman, having a man beside her provided a sense of security and shelter from life's storms. 0

Su Qian lifted her head contentedly and smiled slightly. "It feels so good having you here. Promise me you'll come back alive from the battlefield." 0

Freyr glanced at her and adopted an older man's demeanor as he gently touched her face, brushing aside her bangs before leaning down to kiss her forehead softly. "I understand. Just take care of yourself too. I'm really happy for you that you can become a doctor." 0

He didn't know why he acted this way; Su Qian wasn't surprised by his affection. In fact, it made her feel safer, like when her father would kiss her forehead. Her cheeks flushed with warmth. 0

Feeling shy, she buried her head back into his embrace. 0

"Bad guy, always bullying me~" 0

Inside the car, there was a heavy silence, broken only by the sounds of flirtation from the two people in the back. The bodyguards were busy with their tasks, while the driver focused on maintaining a steady pace. Before long, the vehicle came to a stop at the villa's entrance. As the occupants exited the car, everyone felt something was off. Normally, there would be someone to greet them at this villa, yet at that moment, the old butler had not come out to open the door. 0

"What’s going on? That old stick-in-the-mud Moria has gone off to smoke and is now too bold to come out and welcome his masters," one of the bodyguards complained. 0

"There might be trouble. Stay alert and grab your weapons." 0

The atmosphere around the villa felt strange, especially in the dark, which made it seem eerie and foreboding. Freyr pulled out the luxury car key from his bag and pressed a button, activating the alarm system. The loud sound of heavy metal music blared from the car's speakers; it was an old album from a legendary band. 0

Freyr instructed a few bodyguards to stay close to Su Qian while he took two others with him to the car. He opened the trunk and pulled out a box of ammunition, two submachine guns, and a sniper rifle. He himself carried only a handgun designed for women. He had arranged for weapons to be ordered from the butler before military training night; a batch of unscrupulous arms dealers in the black market would sell guns for money. Although these were outdated models, he didn’t need heavy weaponry. 0

The other two bodyguards furrowed their brows as they carefully adjusted the accuracy of their submachine guns and even opened their chambers. Though they were all former soldiers who had retired and taken jobs as henchmen for wealthy families just to make ends meet, they still had to flatter these affluent civilians for their livelihoods. 0

However, once they equipped themselves with their chosen weapons, they looked like special forces operatives. 0

As Freyr slung the sniper rifle over his shoulder and prepared to grab more guns, a sudden sharp scream echoed from afar, causing all three men’s hearts to race. They nearly lost control of their firearms. Freyr's left eyelid began to twitch as he uneasily recalled something. 0

Many areas inland were not particularly safe, especially in outer cities where they were close to warning lines several dozen kilometers away. Terrifying insects often roamed nearby. 0

Many members of the Zerg had wings; it was entirely possible for one or two to slip through even with supposedly impenetrable defenses designed to filter out even a fly. This overreliance on intelligent computer detection often led to breaches due to lapses in frontline security, allowing flying Insectoid creatures into residential areas and resulting in mass slaughter. 0

It wasn’t solely the fault of frontline soldiers when insects slipped through; incidents of Insectoid massacres occurred several times a year. Most cases were cleaned up by the Joint Defense Force without issue, thanks largely to media influence that stirred public sentiment against them—after all, civilian casualties meant little to the Joint Defense Force. 0

At one point, Freyr had reported an incident to the police. When they arrived on scene, they were accompanied by a priest who recited prayers for the deceased victims after assessing the situation. However, subsequent visits to the police station yielded no results regarding his case. 0

Realizing something was amiss, Freyr quickly rushed toward the source of the sound. From a distance at the entrance, he caught sight of a two-meter-tall insect flying out. Its mouth resembled a straw, and its enormous compound eyes locked onto an unmoving crowd before it charged forward under the lure of flesh and blood. However, it hadn’t flown far when gunfire erupted suddenly; within moments, blood holes appeared across its body as it stumbled and fell to the ground. 0

Freyr hurried over and said seriously, "Stay alert! Jem, you drive my wife away to report this; everyone else grab your weapons and follow me inside." 0

Su Qian rushed over, tears streaming down her face. She snatched a handgun from one of the bodyguards and said, "No, no! I have to go too. My child is still inside, and that is also your child. Can you understand what a mother feels at this moment? I need to stay here." 0

Seeing Su Qian's unwavering determination, Freyr took a deep breath but didn't know how to argue. The bodyguards around them began shedding their heavy gear, putting on bulletproof vests and special helmets from the nearby vehicle. Suddenly, the previously still insect struggled and flew toward them again. 0

"Brain Eater Mosquito?" Freyr exclaimed, pushing Su Qian into Jem's arms while shouting, "Damn it, get going, Jem!" 0

Su Qian clutched Freyr's shirt with all her strength, accusing him, "You bastard, Freyr! If anything happens to our child, it's your fault. You let him be in danger without his mother by his side. You jerk!" 0

Jem observed Su Qian's actions and then glanced at Freyr's indifferent expression, seemingly understanding something. He hoisted Su Qian into the vehicle just as the driver nervously poked his head out to see what was happening. He was met with the sight of an insect charging toward them, causing him to quickly retract his head and roll up the window. "Damn it! That scared me; it's a bug!" 0

From the back seat, Jem shouted, "If you know it's a bug, then hurry up and drive! Damn it, Old Jin, are you blind? Head to the police station!" 0

"I-I know," Old Jin stammered as he nodded vigorously. He turned the steering wheel with all his might as the engine roared like a raging bull. 0

"You bastard!" 0

With a roar mixed in with the chaos, the luxury car equipped with a racing engine crashed through the guardrail and sped away. 0

Freyr managed to glance at the distant neon lights—the two beams of light emitted from the back of the car—while the furious bull gradually receded into the distance. At that moment, Freyr's heart slowly began to calm down as he murmured to himself, "I'm sorry, my love. He is also my son. I will save him if he is still alive." 0
