"Life signals have disappeared from this area. What’s going on?"
"The energy scanner is nowhere near as effective as the human eye. Move in and conduct a thorough search."
"Understood!"
"Why is there no response? Team One, what have you found? Respond quickly."
The sound of beeping from Morse Code came through the Ansebo device, and the moment the receiver was taken off, the noise erupted like a boiling pot.
On the receiving end, a green silhouette stood rigidly in front of the Ansebo machine, motionless.
A sound resembling a baby's cry echoed, with intense interference waves causing the Anseibo Signal device to nearly tremble.
Undoubtedly, the signal receiver on the other side felt a chill; this sound was eerily similar to that of an extinct Giant Salamander, yet it was a hundred times sharper than a baby's wail, even disrupting the high frequencies of Ansebo.
Unclear about the situation on the other side, they had never experienced such a prolonged loss of contact. It was as if the entire Search Team had vanished without a trace.
The Life Signal Emitter still indicated that life signals were present, and they were not struggling. Although it was impossible to know what they had encountered, it was certain that they were still alive. The situation of missing persons was unacceptable; such a complete loss of communication was nearly impossible.
The Ansebo was connected to Military Satellites, covering the entire globe. Even in uninhabited areas like Primitive Jungles, as long as the receiver was installed nearby, precise target location could always be achieved.
In theory, with technology at such advanced heights, it was almost impossible for an entire Search Team to go missing without any means of contact. Either something unexpected happened while they were searching, or what kind of incident could cause an entire well-equipped Search Team to lose all signals?
Even if they encountered a swarm of Zerg s, given their professional capabilities, even if they lost their lives there, they could still relay messages back to Main Base before succumbing. To disappear completely without a trace raised serious concerns about what kind of danger could cause the entire Search Team to go silent and lose frequency coverage.
Such an occurrence should not be possible; after all, that area was merely a Farm. Without any interference sources or conductive metals beneath them, while accidents could happen, an entire team losing contact for an extended period raised suspicions.
Even in exaggerated scenarios involving Zerg s, it was unlikely they possessed human-like intelligence capable of ensnaring humans entirely. They were beasts without intellect and certainly lacked advanced hunting techniques.
Yet contact had been severed. Since they couldn’t find anyone, it was necessary to dispatch a new Search Team.
Understanding exactly what happened to the previous investigation team and uncovering what was peculiar about that strange Farm became imperative.
"Report!"
This is the Main Base, a culmination of human engineering intelligence.
After a week of diligent construction, a temporary military encampment has been established, allowing humanity to avoid contact with the dangerous outside world for the time being. The Parasite Beast may be powerful, but they rely on Ultrasound similar to that of a Bat to locate their prey, which is their most instinctive behavior.
However, the biological radar constructed outside the Main Base can shield against the coverage of Ultrasound.
This renders their nearly flawless Ultrasound hunting pattern ineffective, as when they approach this area, they automatically assume there are no active prey nearby.
Even if humans were to appear right in front of them, they would still perceive them as mere rocks and would selectively choose to avoid them.
The temporary division of Slyland.
"Come in."
The young private, panting heavily, displayed an exaggerated expression of shock on his face. He had previously understood the strength of the hunters; however, he had no choice but to barge into the Communication Room under pressing circumstances.
The officers on duty in the Communication Room turned to look at the newcomer, having no reason to be angry with this young private.
Such a flustered situation would not arise unless there was an urgent matter at hand.
The newcomer was the most talented private in the area, and they had no reason to be harsh on an ambitious officer. They were all in this together, like grasshoppers tied to the same rope; during this period of frontline construction, no one wanted to offend anyone around them.
They understood that everyone seemed like a gas canister ready to explode at any moment, just waiting for someone to step forward as the scapegoat. No matter how fierce or unreasonable that scapegoat might be, even if standing on the side of justice, once they became opposed by everyone else, all notions of morality and justice would vanish.
"What happened? Calm down; don't panic. Take a sip of water and breathe slowly," said the Senior Officer with notable patience.
The private immediately relaxed as everyone turned their anxious gazes toward him.
Under everyone's scrutiny, even the private felt nervous and struggled to find his words; not only did he feel awkward standing there, but he also forgot how to position his hands appropriately.
Only when their familiar leader spoke up did his emotions settle slightly.
He nervously swallowed and said, "Good news! A Hunter Team that was on a mission has returned—the elite team that came back from the Farm. However, some of them are not in good condition; one hunter is severely injured. It might be related to what happened at the Farm."
Without hesitation, the Senior Officer replied, "That could very well be the case. The others should stay put and continue monitoring. Don't miss any details; save that strange sound. If anything else arises and it’s not an emergency, you can make your own decisions. Contact me immediately if something comes up."
An officer frowned and said, "Over there, could there still be any survivors?"
The Senior Officer sighed and replied, "Do your best, you understand? Sometimes you shouldn't give up easily, because if you do, you'll gain nothing. Even if you think they might all be dead, you must focus on searching. Perhaps within those sounds, there are details we haven't discovered yet. Here, courage is paramount; each of you must put forth your utmost effort to confront this situation. Don't lose heart, for nothing is more terrifying than despair and giving up. Each of us holds the lives of our soldiers in our hands; we cannot afford to be careless."
The officers were momentarily stunned, looking at the Senior Officer with a glimmer of admiration in their eyes, and they saluted in unison.
Watching the busy figures of the officers, the Senior Officer took a deep breath and turned to the Corporal gently, saying, "Alright, lead me there. I hope we can find some useful clues." The weary Old Officer leaned on his cane and limped outside.
Outside the Medical Tent, seven or eight hunters stood waiting anxiously by the tent.
What should have been a journey that would take less than a week to return to camp was delayed due to another incident that occurred along the way.
The Hunters paced back and forth outside the Medical Tent, constantly sizing up Freyr from head to toe.
Freyr rolled his eyes in frustration, feeling increasingly anxious under everyone's scrutiny, his spirit visibly deflating.
One hunter signaled to the leader and shouted loudly, "We've been stuck with this rookie for too long; he's just a hindrance. We almost faced total annihilation—whose fault is that?"
Another hunter waved his hand dismissively and said, "Hmph, whose fault? It's everyone's responsibility. It's not just yours or mine or even the rookie's fault; it's a collective decision we made together. This arrangement was agreed upon by all of us." Their initial arrogance had softened somewhat after working together for so long; they had developed a sense of camaraderie despite their earlier coldness.
