"Let's each take a week to rest and recharge. During this time, I will freeze the Merit Card. Once we all return, we can unfreeze it and see what changes we can make to prepare for the next mission." The other four nodded in agreement. Through their experiences together, they had come to trust the Commander; when he said he would freeze it, he meant it. He wouldn't engage in any underhanded dealings. Even if he did, what could one do with zero Reward Points? It wasn't like zero was twenty-five thousand Reward Points.
Everyone began to plan for the week ahead, some deciding to stay home and relax while others considered going out for a trip to unwind. Fortunately, their salaries had been paid that month, leaving them with a substantial surplus after paying rent. They were relieved to have this timely break, and all agreed to the plan.
Fatigue was evident on their faces, but upon hearing they could rest, a sense of relief washed over them. Ross gazed into space and suddenly said, "I hope to have an enjoyable week. I must complete all the game levels."
Parker Parkinson appeared indifferent as he exerted pressure with his hands, silently vowing to himself, "I need to get a gym membership and work out to maintain my condition. Recently, during meditation, I've felt changes in my body. Could it be the awakening of Gene Endowment? I still don't know what that feels like exactly. This time, I don't want to be the least useful person on the team."
Relock was unconcerned; Freyr was covering his expenses and had already enrolled him in specialized training courses aimed at improving physical fitness. He aimed to learn various military skills during this fifteen-day break, including handling Nuclear Landmines and different firearms, as well as long-range sniping and camouflage techniques. Other courses couldn't be mastered in such a short time, but he maintained contact with his former comrades and could find time for training with his friends.
Xiong Tai shrugged off his shoulders. He didn't pay much attention to life; his rented place was a cramped basement apartment barely big enough for a bed. Yet he dreamed of indulging in luxurious meals. His life could be messier; in fact, it was hard to imagine living any worse than he currently did—ordinary people wouldn't want that kind of life.
It seemed that besides sleeping and eating, exercising was his main focus. He had signed up for a short-term job as a caretaker at Forest Zoo, looking after ferocious animals like lions, gorillas, tigers, and elephants. His main goal was to experience their ferocity and cultivate the beastly instincts within him.
The caretaker job suited him well because there had been multiple incidents of caretakers being attacked at Forest Zoo recently.
Thus, Xiong Tai, as a professional hunter from the Hunter Association, not only earned a high salary but also saved the zoo from incurring additional costs related to compensation issues. It was truly a win-win situation. However, once it became clear that Xiong Tai could only work part-time at the zoo despite its large number of visitors, there remained a significant shortage of caretakers due to the untamed nature of the lions, tigers, and bears. Consequently, various unsettling incidents continued to arise.
Eventually, he did manage to secure that job; whenever he had free time, he could work part-time there. Just like him, if life lacked the thrill of wild beasts around him, it would become difficult to endure—and his strength would inevitably decline.
Each person had their own thoughts and memories as they moved toward new lives.
A week may not seem long, but they hoped to quickly relax their minds so they could face future missions that might hold greater dangers.
Freyr stepped out of the Hunter Association building, and the guard at the entrance signaled that it was safe to come and go.
He lingered at the door for a moment, contacting his family's driver for a pickup. Soon enough, a long black limousine pulled up outside.
The car was incredibly eye-catching; many people had never seen such a model before. With a history spanning over a century, it was typically reserved for grand weddings or the arrivals of major celebrities. It was unlikely anyone would use such a vehicle for everyday purposes, as it drew too much attention.
However, Freyr indeed had a family backing him. They often engaged in charitable activities across various locations, showcasing their wealth to the public. The older members of the family were always dressed in suits, and during rush hour, their outings would cause traffic jams. Whenever they traveled, a convoy of vehicles accompanied them, all of the same model, with bodyguards dressed in matching attire.
Every time he witnessed this spectacle, he couldn't help but instinctively cover his face.
The convoy was more than ten meters away from the limousine, but the people inside were remotely directing operations to avoid drawing too much crowd attention.
Yet, such actions still attracted onlookers. There was no way to disperse them; they simply let it be. A woman clad in a tight black leather outfit emerged from the car, resembling a black widow. However, her lips were adorned with subtle makeup, and upon seeing him, her face broke into a smile.
The woman before him was Freya's wife, now dressed like a business agent to fit the current trends and aesthetic styles.
Women loved this style as it allowed them to project a stronger presence.
"Hey, I see you took the initiative to reach out. Where have you been all this time?" Relock said as he walked away towards the distance and got into one of the convoy's cars.
Only two people were left talking, and it was clear that the woman was very angry at the man for suddenly leaving without saying goodbye.
"I've been really busy lately, executing a dangerous mission. I got a fifteen-day leave, and now I'm back to spend time with you," the man said.
"Just fifteen days? You’re using all of it to be with family?" the woman shot back.
"Actually, that's not true," the man replied, his lips twitching as he instinctively spoke the truth.
"See? It's not. Then why did you come back? Why get married? You might as well marry your mission," the woman raised an eyebrow.
"Uh, let's talk about this later. It's not good to argue here," the man said, half-heartedly pushing the woman back toward the car before quickly sliding into the vehicle from the other side.
