"Kill!" The slashing stance was fierce, leaving everyone astonished.
In that moment, the overwhelming aura was enough to stun the Lizard Bug. However, it quickly regained its composure; after all, the Lizard Bug had survived in the forest, enduring solitude and hardship. Only the winners could dominate the rainforest; otherwise, no matter how powerful or prestigious a creature's lineage might be, a single defeat meant no future—only death awaited.
Thus, when the Lizard Bug felt the intimidating pressure, it immediately burst into action. Yet to Freyr, its speed seemed to slow down. Freyr's movements were incredibly swift, enhanced by the so-called Time Bond, doubling his speed to an unpredictable level. His control over his pace reached its ultimate form. With this advantage, the Lizard Bug's attacks couldn't even get close; instead, new wounds were continuously inflicted upon its body as its scales were gradually sliced away.
Freyr's actions could be seen as taunting his opponent. In pain, the Lizard Bug accelerated further. The red claws of Blood Choke arced through the air, capable of slicing skin even from a paper-thin distance. The clash of sword against claw echoed loudly. The Lizard Bug's movements were too obvious; Freyr gradually seized control of the battle.
Without giving it a chance to adapt, he unleashed his masterful killing techniques. While swordsmen usually strike with precision in duels, they never hold back in war. The mindset now was to find and exploit any openings in the opponent's defenses for a lethal counterattack. Only with greater speed could Freyr counter the Lizard Bug's retaliation; after all, his abilities were rooted in speed. Once combat began, every wound on the Lizard Bug became a weakness.
These wounds weren't random; they targeted vital arteries mercilessly. As Freyr increased his pace, blood began to flow from the edges of the wounds. Gradually, as his speed intensified, so did the flow of blood until the Lizard Bug could no longer endure.
This foundation allowed him to strike decisively—his sword sliced through a claw with precision and then delivered a powerful backhand blow to the Lizard Bug's chest. This time, there was no escape for it; as it attempted to rise again, its body grew cold and devoid of strength. Its cries echoed not just from itself but also from Barrett’s gunfire that rang out again, causing chaos among the remaining Lizard Bugs as if one of their fallen had been their leader.
These Lizard Bugs relied on swarm tactics and poisonous claws to wear down their opponents through sheer numbers. Such primitive rainforest strategies were no match for a well-equipped and professionally skilled hunter. Even with soldiers present wearing specially designed protective gear, before their claws could pierce through the outer layer of defense, many Lizard Bugs would likely already be lying in pools of blood.
The close-combat skills of these insects were ill-suited against humans; humans could even control remote operations with just a button press capable of flattening an entire island. Thus, they faced what could be termed an apocalyptic disaster—a concept that would never truly resonate within their consciousness.
"Whoosh!" The sound of slicing air filled the space as the Wolf Fang Club swept through and yanked at a Lizard Bug's leg with great force, tearing away a massive chunk of flesh and leaving behind a long gash in its muscle. If left untreated, such injuries could lead to severe bacterial infections or even death.
With its speed significantly hampered and following Xiong Tai’s blood-curdling shout, the Wolf Fang Club smashed down hard into the ground, creating a deep crater. Half of the Lizard Bug’s body was crushed and distorted; ribs shattered as it gasped for breath before falling limp. Its body continued to twitch rapidly as if its mind hadn’t yet realized that it was done for—no longer capable of inflicting harm and barely clinging to life.
The remaining Lizard Bugs were few in number; on humanity’s side, equipped with superior gear allowed them to easily counterattack. Their capabilities far surpassed those of ordinary beings, so as long as they avoided being cut by poisonous claws, they would remain unaffected.
Windrunner continued to reap the heads of the Lizard Bugs. An arrow sliced through the air, like a blue streak of light flashing across the night sky, astonishingly fast. It was no wonder he needed to charge up.
Ross had a precise grasp of his strength. Although this might not have much to do with his abilities, he maximized the potential of his weapon, making it a win-win choice. He needed the unique manipulation ability of a hunter.
In the current team, it seemed only Maggie and Freyr possessed such abilities. Even Parker's undead traits and misfortune manipulation seemed to have failed this time.
A series of successful attacks led to a chorus of screams, and the number of Lizard Bugs quickly dwindled to just one.
However, even with only one Lizard Bug left, which they initially planned to let escape, it unexpectedly charged at them with bared teeth when everyone else had stopped attacking.
It looked fierce and determined, but no one gave it a chance to get close.
Parker Parkinson raised his dual pistols and unleashed a flurry of shots at the ground in front of him, blasting the earth apart.
His attack pattern was directly aimed at the Lizard Bug's next move. After taking several shots, Parker emptied his magazines, and the Lizard Bug collapsed not far from their group, quietly bleeding to death.
Meanwhile, Maggie stood by Relock's side, ready to help wherever needed, acting solely as a meat shield. Fortunately for him, he suffered no harm because soon after, all the Lizard Bugs lay in pools of blood. Barrett had fired only four shots but managed to pierce through three Lizard Bug bodies.
Aside from that, others also had their share; Freyr dealt with two Lizard Bugs, Xiong Tai took down two as well, and Ross also claimed two. In total, they averaged about two or three kills each. Confronting this sudden crisis, they handled it effortlessly and resolved the situation.
As the battle subsided, thankfully there was no significant commotion that attracted other insects in the jungle. However, compared to the numerous bloodied corpses around them, their impact was minimal. Xiong Tai went over to collect claws for crafting into daggers later on.
With Blood Choke's dagger in hand, killing enemies would surely become much easier in the future.
After successfully resolving the incident, Freyr and the others looked around the battlefield, collecting the claws and placing them back into their rings.
"Ah, it's done. Let's move on. The blood here will surely attract more terrifying insects. We need to stay as far away as possible. Let's run," Ross replied.
