At this point, the others chuckled mischievously as they scattered to search for Freyr.
Throughout Wanderer's Home, they had waited for their moment to shine, only to realize the presence of their Commander when they reached the parking garage.
Although the car had been maintained, it had never been cleaned. Now, he was working hard to restore its shine, needing a good waxing. While there was already a fair amount of wax on it, the priority was to wash away the dirt.
Ross smiled and said, "Commander, we came to see you."
Xiong Tai chimed in, "Yeah, yeah! It was me who told Ross to do this, and he really did it! You see, if I'm here, then I must be here. Commander, you have to reward me!"
Freyr shook his head and replied, "Have you finished your tasks? It can't be that quick. After all this time, what new gear have you all acquired? As long as it's nothing too extravagant. Ten thousand Reward Points probably won't be spent in one go. In the past, we used to earn tens of thousands at a time to bolster the team. Now, after finally winning a battle and accumulating over a hundred thousand Reward Points, no one knows how to use them. It's quite sad when you think about what we're really doing here." Clearly, while washing the car, Freyr had contemplated life and suddenly gained a new perspective, though he felt awkward with no one around.
"Uh, uh, Commander, you're truly a philosopher," Parker said.
"A philosopher? What does that mean?" Freyr turned back to ask.
"Uh, uh, it doesn't mean anything. Commander, you don't need to pay attention to what I say. We haven't exchanged anything; we just saw you were missing and came looking for you. We didn't expect you to actually be here! How about we help you out? It would go faster if we worked together," Parker suggested, raising his hand.
"Wait a minute. Why are you suddenly being so nice to me? Do you have something you want to tell me? You see, you guys don’t usually drive and can’t help relieve my burden. Suddenly being so nice feels suspicious. What do you want? Are you hiding something from me?" Freyr raised an eyebrow and looked at them with a smile.
"No, no! We just came to check on you! Right, Xiong Tai?" Ross hurriedly replied.
"Yes! That's right! We just came to see how you're doing. Look at Ross; he's even talking now—it's all thanks to me!" Xiong Tai laughed.
"Who asked you to teach me, you big bear?" Ross cursed.
"Oh, you still want to fight? Do you think my Thunderstorm Hammers are just for show?" Xiong Tai hadn't forgotten about the hammers in his hands, boasting about them many times along the way. Now, he was flaunting them in front of Freyr. Indeed, if he didn't have the hammers, Xiong Tai looked much more rugged than before; "growing into a hairy bear" would be a more fitting description.
"Alright, alright, if you two are done arguing, come over and help wash the car. It's parked here and surprisingly hasn't rusted. Someone must have been maintaining it regularly. Aside from a bit of dust, it seems like it hasn't been wiped down for about a week. Without rain to keep it clean, it naturally gets all dirty. It needs a good wipe to feel comfortable," Freyr huffed, indicating he didn't want to deal with their bickering.
"You think I'm afraid of you? Come on, let's go outside and fight."
"You think I'm scared of you? Let's go!"
"Commander, do you think they'll be okay?" One of them asked, watching the two retreating figures and hearing the commotion they were making.
"Don't worry about it. Let them go; they won't actually fight. That's just how they are—always acting tough but soft inside," Freyr replied without turning around. He understood his companions' temperaments well. Not to mention that Ross valued his own pride; on the other hand, Xiong Tai was a straightforward guy who would definitely apologize if he realized he was in the wrong. So Freyr believed that a fight between them was highly unlikely.
The others listened to their argument without concern for an actual fight and followed along to help Freyr wash the car.
Sure enough, after a while, the two came back with their arms around each other's shoulders, seemingly having resolved their differences and turned into good buddies again. It seemed their prediction about not fighting was spot on.
What would have taken one person a long time to finish was completed quickly with everyone working together.
Next came the waiting for the car to dry on its own; basically, they were done and had saved some expenses.
After that, they all left the basement together. As they emerged from below, they seemed a bit awkward and unsure of what to do next, so they followed Commander Freyr. Unexpectedly, he led them into a building to visit an old friend. It turned out to be a restaurant where he sat down at a table while the others peeked around the corner curiously. Soon enough, they saw him reconnecting with his friend.
"I didn't expect you to still be alive. You come here to eat whenever you have the time. Do you like the food here, or is there something else on your mind? But every time you come over, it's just to chat with me. A glass of water here and there—please, if you have something to say, just say it directly. Don't disturb our business, alright?" The speaker was a man.
"Uh, uh, uh, are you guys interested in men now? Recently, it's been considered normal for men to be with men and women with women. Isn't Commander already married? Are we talking about a third party? But given Commander's looks and family situation, the man he seems to care about isn't all that great either. Does Commander have a thing for younger guys? I think I'm quite mature and stable too. Am I not the type that Commander likes?" Ross stood quietly to the side, rambling on.
"Get lost! With your looks, you'd be better off holding my urinal! I think I'm the type that Commander likes; otherwise, back when we formed the team, he practically begged me to join him. Sigh, if Commander confessed his feelings to me, should I reject him? If he loves me, what would I do? You see, we're teammates; we run into each other all the time. If his wife finds out about an improper relationship... Commander, it wouldn't matter for you, but what about my reputation?" Xiong Tai seemed to spiral further into absurdity.
"Don't worry; no one would like someone like you, Gorilla," Ross replied, and those nearby nodded in agreement.
"Hey! Why are you nodding along? If I became your family's second Young Mistress, you'd still have to serve me tea!" Xiong Tai continued, prompting a shake of the head from Relock.
"That's absolutely impossible for you. The young master only has eyes for one person. I've seen that person before; the young master often talks about them at home. Many people have died during missions involving this individual. That's why he didn't agree when we tried to recruit them into our team initially. So whenever he has free time, the young master comes here. Young Mistress knows about this too, so stop making wild guesses," Relock added.
