"Not many insects can fly, and can humanity's Air Force really secure victory? What is this?" The old man slammed the table in anger, clearly frustrated with the Mecha Association's operational capabilities.
"Calm down and sit down," Hilbert cleared his throat and continued.
As soon as he spoke, everyone around fell silent.
The situation over there was still uncertain; the insects' counterattack was ongoing. No one would blame him for anything, as this was all within reason. The scene on the battlefield was far from the comfort of the conference room. Those warriors caught in the fight could become casualties at any moment. Moreover, this operation aimed to slow down the Zerg's advance; if they could delay their progress for eight hours, it would be considered a success.
The cooperation between the Human Alliance and the Mecha Association was new, and aside from some initial losses, the strategic redeployment soon clarified their tactical objectives. Although many lives were sacrificed at the outset, this strategy was indeed yielding results.
The flying Dragonwing Insects were quickly obliterated amidst the gunfire. Their wings were severed, and their heavy bodies could no longer stay airborne, crashing down into the Swarm below. The artillery used was formidable; the Mecha Association's mech soldiers employed large-caliber cannons that could sweep across targets with laser fire. While bullets couldn't penetrate their armored exoskeletons, lasers could slice through their flesh in an instant.
It was still difficult to predict how things would unfold; once the strategic deployment commenced, the situation changed dramatically.
Below ground, a scene of explosive bombardment unfolded, with various artillery flashes erupting like mushrooms in a series of explosions.
Countless insects on the ground opened their mouths to howl. Although they could perceive their surroundings, they couldn't relay sounds to pinpoint areas back to the conference room.
Yet it was still possible to see the real-time conditions of war; insects lay dead everywhere, some blown apart by bombs. This barrage would continue for quite some time; those insects had such low IQ that they didn't understand how to hide effectively. Instead, they continued to advance in clusters, making them easy targets for bombardment. The flames ignited panic among them whenever explosions occurred near their positions.
Thus, this tactic proved effective from the start. Ahead lay a massive Firewall, while aircraft continuously dropped Napalm—an incendiary bomb that easily fueled flames—into the fray. The fire's intensity could last over an hour, and efforts were made to prevent it from dying down. The human side worked tirelessly to widen the flames' reach, attempting to trap these insects within a fiery encirclement for annihilation.
Following this, the Human Alliance launched Missiles—those ancient projectiles piled high in storage that were nearly set for disposal now found new purpose. Regardless of whether they could still function properly or not, they were all targeted and launched into the sky. Meanwhile, those insects remained oblivious to being locked onto; they genuinely believed they could escape through sheer brute force.
However, overall, it did slow down their progress. Seeing this, several generals in the conference room seemed to see a glimmer of hope; their expressions shifted from numbness to confidence, as if many blind people had regained a hint of light. This indicated that the recovery of sight for the blind was not far off.
To this end, they needed to prepare for the next steps, making sure to get ready before the insects reached that area. It was a new strategic deployment. After all, there was plenty of explosives in the warehouse that they usually hesitated to use. It wouldn't make sense to wait until the insects were at their doorstep and then have the soldiers carry explosive packs one by one. Such a method might result in losing all the soldiers in the camp without inflicting much damage on the insects.
"Let's go; we've received orders."
Lutian, the Vice Captain of the Division-Level Hunter Team, rushed onto the helicopter with some others, seemingly responding to an urgent command. At that moment, everyone boarded the helicopter without question. However, the purpose of this deployment remained unclear.
They were forcibly ordered onto the aircraft while teams with higher capabilities than theirs remained on the ground. What was going on? The Commander had an indifferent attitude, answering no questions and remaining silent throughout the journey. What was this all about? Freya seemed to treat them like expendable pawns.
Thus, Freyr secretly communicated to his team not to scatter; even if assigned different tasks, they should help each other as soon as possible.
The journey was quiet; everyone sat with their heads down, focused on their own matters. There was no communication between them, and when a third party asked questions, they offered no responses.
Talking would distract them from their focus, so to avoid losing concentration, the atmosphere in the team felt lifeless.
Yet they worked together seamlessly; without speaking, they understood each other's needs through mere glances. They passed towels to one another as if everything was perfectly calm.
Before long, they arrived at their destination.
It was a range of mountains stretching endlessly.
They focused their gaze out of the helicopter window; the height of these mountains resembled that of an ordinary peak.
However, to secure the Military Family stronghold, the terrain here indeed resembles a strategic location worth defending.
Did they really intend to do this? With so few people, could they possibly stand against a Swarm of that scale? It seemed unlikely.
They dropped ropes from the aircraft, descending one by one with impressive speed. Upon reaching the ground, they looked up and noticed that the sky had darkened. Undertaking a mission in such an environment would be quite challenging, yet they were uncertain about what they were actually meant to do here.
As night quickly fell, they would have to operate under the cover of darkness, making solo actions even riskier.
Although it was unclear whether the insects would arrive here soon, the environment already felt perilous. Above them loomed a Cliff, and any misstep could lead to a fatal fall onto the sharp stones below.
For this operation, they had not brought safety equipment, which meant their mission would inevitably involve close encounters with the Cliff. The Division-Level Hunter Team activated their glow sticks, illuminating the surroundings slightly. They seemed to pull out some barrels and tools from somewhere, which emitted a faint scent of gunpowder.
