The creature was peculiar, its outer protective barrier resembling a calcium-like substance that became evident after infrared scanning.
Ordinary calcium is quite fragile, but the calcium forming this barrier was solid and colorless, likely a result of the creature's innate ability.
This material appeared terrifying, and no one could have anticipated such an outcome. The Sparrow Missile continued to bombard the wall without any noticeable effect; it seemed that the composition of this layer was extraordinarily formidable.
"Damn, no effect? What are we supposed to do now?" shouted a soldier from the Human Alliance, taken aback by the stark contrast in power. Though they were typically aggressive, even they were shocked by the situation.
The soldiers manning the Cannons dared not cease fire. While their shots might not inflict significant damage, firing at least generated heat at the barrel, and the creature still showed some fear towards the light and heat produced by the Cannons.
Despite the bullets appearing thin, like toothpicks striking against the thick Exoskeleton, they would likely leave no mark at all. It was clear that they couldn't hit their target; there would be no fear instilled in the creature’s thoughts. Nevertheless, they continued to unleash a barrage of Cannon fire.
While this might slow down the creature's advance slightly, it still wouldn't prevent it from moving forward. If it breached their defenses, it could easily invade their city. This towering wall had managed to hold back countless invasions from the Zerg over the years.
Thus, this time, they absolutely could not allow this creature to break through. Repairing such walls would require a tremendous cost in both time and resources.
If they encountered other Zerg invasions during this process, humanity would pay a heavy price.
Everyone shared this sentiment. Meanwhile, a group of assassins rushed out. These individuals were typically tasked with covert eliminations but now boldly abandoned their stronghold for action. They must have had their own plans, prioritizing the safety of those behind them over their own.
There were at least ten of them among those who charged out. Assassins were known for their lethal precision; they wouldn’t allow any hesitation in their techniques. Their movements flowed seamlessly as they executed coordinated attacks like a well-oiled machine. Clearly, they had their own strategy in mind.
As expected, once these assassins surged forward, each wielded a large bundle of Chains. They spread out quickly while running along the ground, simultaneously throwing their Chains into action. These Chains turned out to be part of an integrated whole; once fully deployed, one assassin led with a Lock Dragon Chain and leaped onto the creature's body with a Lock Dragon Spine in hand.
The assassin's silent steps unfolded, blending seamlessly with the air, and the creature remained oblivious to any disturbance. As it leaped upward, the Dragon Spine Spike swiftly pierced the back of the Fire Beetle, sending strong vibrations rippling through its body. Meanwhile, the nature of the Chain began to reveal itself. The assassin, positioned on its back, suddenly jumped down, landing on the ground just as the Chain unleashed a powerful electric current.
Of course, if the Chain itself was capable of emitting electricity, that would be a different story.
This was no ordinary chain; despite its clumsy appearance, it was a finely crafted Alchemical Chain capable of releasing millions of volts of electricity—enough to turn a sturdy bull to ashes.
What was even more terrifying was that they had never tested such a Chain on an Zerg before. It seemed like an intriguing experiment, albeit one tinged with a sense of gamble. They had to restrain this creature with such actions; otherwise, the outcome could be quite troublesome.
Other chains were anchored into the rocky surface, functioning in unison through an Alchemical Matrix. The powerful current indeed proved effective at that moment. The purpose of the Chain was to discharge electricity, and this attack was driven by the assassin's infusion of substantial Elemental Power into an energy cycle. Though time-consuming, as long as the Dragon Spine Spike did not cease its assault on the creature's back, no other reactions would occur during this process. The current would continue to flow, yielding excellent results while consuming a significant amount of Elemental Power from over a dozen assassins.
The combined assault from these assassins held the creature in place—a truly terrifying sight. A chilling sound quickly filled the air as the current coursed through its skin, bringing with it the scent of charred flesh.
After this experiment, it was clear that the effects were substantial. They had been holding their breath for this moment, and now they finally released it as the creature's movements slowed further.
It seemed that all its blood had coagulated under the voltage. After nearly thirty seconds, a piercing scream finally echoed out; astonishingly, it had only just begun to react. This underscored how formidable its Defense Power truly was.
"Great! Everyone attack together; the million-volt current is working!" The Alchemical Chain material was incredibly precious—there were only three in total within the entire association—and now one had been deployed without knowing if it could be fully recovered.
As this situation continued to unfold, aircraft in the sky regained control and unleashed another barrage using the Sparrow Trajectory.
The roar resonated loudly as those calcium-based walls shattered explosively. Then came the Fire Capital cannon bombardment upon its body.
Amidst swirling smoke mixed with a bloody scent, a figure bearing a Burnt Smell lingered for a moment before collapsing stiffly onto the ground. The humans stood speechless at this scene until intense cheers erupted around them in an instant.
Thick smoke lingered for a long time before gradually dissipating. The sounds of battle finally came to an end, and all the humans returned to Nipoguan, once again securing this stronghold against the invasion of the Zerg.
However, this was just one encounter, and it remained uncertain whether there would be further assaults that night.
In response, the Patrol forces significantly expanded that evening, with lights illuminating the Tower brightly. Personnel involved in other strategic deployments hurriedly returned to their tents to rest.
"Freyr, you can stop keeping watch tonight. Go back and get some rest," a voice called out.
Turning around, Freyr recognized it as Hilbert's voice.
"Alright, President. Just let us stand for another ten minutes or so; we'll naturally return once we feel it's safe here." The others quickly gathered around, but upon hearing Freyr's words, they returned to their respective posts.
