The voices in the room had been discussing for quite some time.
It seemed that each person had their own thoughts. The manager was almost reading from a script, primarily because it appeared to be the easiest way to proceed.
Moreover, if he forgot any details during other discussions, it would be considered a failure in his duties. So, even though it sounded foolish, he continued to read from the script, as everyone else did. Once he finished speaking, he pulled an envelope from his jacket pocket, slowly tearing it open along the postmark and revealing a medal along with several certified tokens.
Among them was a medal labeled "Commander," along with a round silver token. The token bore a silver insignia that likely represented the "Soldier-Level Hunter Team," and the medal was proof of being a "Commander," an item exclusive to the team’s Commander.
These tokens appeared to be of much poorer quality than previous ones, yet they still displayed considerable craftsmanship. Regardless, they were required to return their past tokens that proved their identity as members of the "Soldier-Level Hunter Team." After being taken back, these tokens would be melted down.
The materials had already been contaminated, and the melted remnants would be remade into new tokens using molds. So despite looking pristine on the surface, they had already passed through many hands and might even have been retrieved from the bodies of fallen insects.
Such matters were not to be taken lightly; however, as hunters, there were some things they simply chose not to believe in. Good luck seemed ineffective while bad luck proved all too real. They understood this clearly and kept such thoughts to themselves instead of voicing them aloud.
As for other matters, they needed to sign some rather strange confidentiality agreements. Previously, everything had been managed directly by "Golden Silver Granny" without such formalities. But now, things were becoming increasingly standardized, and the procedures were growing quite complex. It truly felt as if some processes had not been completed yet while the warriors were nearing the end of their task.
While stricter management of the association was indeed an improvement, certain aspects—such as friendship, information sharing, and human warmth—were gradually disappearing alongside this formalization. In reality, some people cared about these qualities while others did not at all. As some would say about what you value: "I couldn't care less." This attitude was quite cold. Moreover, with the association's reforms becoming stricter, certain things had to change in order to keep up with the times.
This could be considered progress. During the conflict with the Zerg, humanity seemed to face unprecedented challenges. However, when true crises arose, all of humanity would stand united on equal ground against their enemies.
"Alright, once you finish signing these remaining documents, the process will be complete. There should be a call coming in later tonight; they will ask you a few questions," said the manager, sounding as if everything had truly become formalized. Wasn't "Wanderer's Home" originally a hall for adventurers? It emphasized freedom and justice for those willing to take on tasks; as long as someone was willing to accept a mission, "Wanderer's Home" would provide corresponding rewards. Some rewards were substantial enough that one could live comfortably without ever worrying about money again.
However, it seems that things have changed now. It feels like a proper place to accept missions, and it appears that after the Reform, there is no longer the so-called privilege of picking and choosing tasks. Missions are assigned to teams based on data assessments, which means some tasks may be quite dangerous while others can be completed easily. This has brought the atmosphere of the entire association down to a certain average level, alleviating past worries and eliminating concerns about those who used to take on simple Daily Tasks just to pass the time.
Their good days are over. However, teams like theirs that have just undergone an Upgrade need not worry about being assigned particularly difficult tasks. In any case, these missions gradually increase in difficulty, so there is absolutely no need to fear being assigned a very challenging task all at once.
Perhaps it was due to the unfortunate start caused by the last Mushroom Mission that prompted a comprehensive Reform here. Although there were many discussions within the association about abolishing such outdated practices, this change also meant that many hunters would miss out on extra benefits.
However, those benefits were essentially black income obtained through speculative means. This reform could provide opportunities for qualified and ambitious teams to gain experience, which is not a bad thing. It aligns with everyone's desire for absolute fairness and transparency in work, as everything is matched by data. The previous underhanded practices or mistakes have been significantly reduced, mainly because the association has implemented stricter evaluation standards for employees who might make mistakes; if they do err, they will be dismissed immediately.
On one hand, the salary and benefits here are substantial, and when looking for other jobs, it can be difficult for someone with a record to find a position that overlooks past grievances.
"I have new members joining my team as well. One will come to the association for basic testing tomorrow, and another will arrive in fifteen days for testing. I've already mentioned this to other personnel; if all goes well, I would like to invite them into my team. Here are their identity documents; please review them. I hope you can expedite this process because I want this person to accompany us on our first mission as part of Team 116 Hunter Team. I don't want him to miss out," Freyr said as he pulled out a stack of materials from a neatly folded pile of papers. It seemed that just completing the process would take at least two days at the earliest, but this appeared to be the quickest timeframe achievable. He hoped that they could shorten it even further.
The intention behind this was straightforward; fortunately, the manager's ideas were quite progressive. He would provide them with conveniences, allowing them to take a special route through time constraints. This wasn't unusual; some teams even requested to bring people in directly before going through formalities since the process itself wasn't that significant.
After all, that process was merely a formality and served as proof of someone's legitimate presence in the team.
Once the proof was submitted, all they could do was wait for time to pass. Additionally, after Mino Steed completed his test, reasonable judgments would be made based on his performance and character assessment from various aspects.
If he did not meet the standards, even if he completed the process and passed reasonably well, he would still be asked to leave directly.
