The air was thick with an unusual atmosphere, making even breathing feel heavy. 0

When they finally opened their eyes, the scene before them was enough to leave them stunned. They found themselves in a place called Silent Ridge. Looking up, they realized that behind them was the very mountain they had just been extending toward, and beside them lay a winding path. They had no idea how they had suddenly come down from above. Each of them had a robust physique, suggesting that if they had fallen from such a height, they would surely have sustained some injuries. If they had fallen without any reaction, it could only mean one thing: they were no longer human. 0

If they were not human, what else could they be? The only thought that came to mind was that they were dead. The realization was hard to accept; it meant their bodies had vanished without a trace, disintegrated in an instant. Their souls likely hadn’t even endured the pain before being released. 0

Yet someone cried out in pain—not from physical hurt but from awakening from unconsciousness. They might not have immediately understood where they were, but given the eerie scenery and the suffocating atmosphere, it wasn’t hard to guess. Was this the rumored realm of the dead? The underworld? There were tales of places being the boundary between life and death. Either way, both sounded terrifying, places where the dead lingered. Living beings entering such realms could easily get lost and end up dying there, becoming like the creatures within. 0

"You're all not dead? Wake up a bit! I don't know how we ended up here either, but I can assure you it wasn't me who brought you here. Perhaps this place is the true face of that paradise beyond our world. Look at those things under the stones—poisonous insects—and that stream we saw earlier; it looked more corrosive than acid. There are even fish swimming in it, their scales worn away, looking utterly disgusting. Just like what we saw before, their eyes are blind. If we had jumped into that pool to catch fish earlier, we would have ended up being washed away in acid. You all know that kind of fate would leave us either flayed alive or half-dead," Freyr said as he stepped forward, drenched in sweat, looking as if he had been submerged in water. 0

After Freyr spoke, everyone instinctively began to observe their surroundings closely. Ross's face turned pale as if he had encountered some malevolent spirit; he hadn’t shown such signs during their mission in the mushroom forest. 0

Could it be that the atmosphere here was genuinely unsettling? If it were merely difficult to breathe, there wouldn’t be many deadly aspects around—just those strange mists lingering in certain areas. They could tell that within those mists lay other dangers. There were places where one could avoid the fog; however, those areas resembled soft quagmires where sinking felt like falling into a pit of quicksand. 0

In such circumstances, one might prefer to take their own life rather than endure this torment. Even if there were no obvious traps at the entrances, there were still snakes and insects lurking about—primitive creatures whose presence was baffling given humanity's evolution over countless years from primates to intelligent beings. Even now, humans could unlock Gene Lock and maintain order under the laws of nature. 0

It was no wonder Ross looked so troubled; if it were them in his position, even moving forward would be challenging. A slight misstep could lead to fatal consequences. 0

"This place seems meticulously planned out. We should head into that mist; I just hope nothing else is lurking inside to cause trouble. If it's some troublesome ancient creature, we might have to fight," Freyr said with a hint of impatience. 0

"This area is called Silent Ridge; not many reliable creatures would dare approach here due to its treacherous terrain—swamps, muddy pits, and undiscovered ancient beings. It’s surprising to think of using them as guardians for a tomb," Ross replied. 0

"While there may be few enemies here, the food chain will certainly not lack for anything. However, being confined in such a place prevents genetic evolution from progressing; these creatures might not possess even a shred of intelligence. We might as well endure for a while and wait," Ross added with astonishment in his voice. 0

"Wait, what do you mean 'wait'? What else is there to wait for? There's nothing left to wait for!" Freyr suddenly shouted, feeling the oppressive atmosphere around them was becoming unbearable. 0

"I'm waiting for the right moment. We might have to rest here," Ross replied calmly. After glancing at their surroundings, he sat down against a rock and quickly fell into a deep sleep, appearing to snore lightly. 0

In such a situation, how could anyone possibly sleep? Waiting for the right moment—what kind of moment was that? This Silent Ridge looked incredibly strange; even breathing felt difficult. How long were they supposed to wait? 0

He felt a sense of rebellion rising within him. Were they really expected to wait until the sun rose over this Silent Ridge? Besides, this place seemed like a Catacomb—there wouldn't be any sunlight here. It was all enclosed spaces; the master of the Catacomb didn't seem worried about these creatures causing trouble. 0

After all, very few had the courage to climb up and charge into the formation. Even if one could get past, the guardians watching over the coffins were no pushovers. In comparison, it was easier to explain why there were so many bizarre corpses along the path of this Tomb; they must have been the monsters that had emerged from beneath this Silent Ridge. 0

They weren't exactly monsters anymore; they were just extremely rare Ancient Creatures. Their existence had simply gone unnoticed for so long—after all, in such distant times, there were hardly any fossils or specimens found. He truly didn't think this atmosphere was suitable for sleeping. Weren't they afraid those things would come and attack them? 0
