At this moment, everyone was in a tense state of readiness. They formed a protective circle, equipped with all sorts of advanced weapons and protective gear. Suddenly, dark shadows began to approach rapidly. In the void ahead, one shadow was moving closer, clearly possessing a substantial form. The source of the disturbance was emanating from that direction, and as it drew nearer, its size grew increasingly larger.
Before long, it entered the range of their perception, causing everyone to instinctively gasp. This couldn't be classified as merely a predator; this creature was at the level of a Tyrannosaurus among dinosaurs. Its massive form resembled that of a Tyrannosaurus Rex, appearing to be the lord of this area, long awaited and now finally revealed. The thunderous sounds they had heard earlier might not have been thunder at all; perhaps it was just the growl from its belly.
The running figure was astonishingly fast. As it approached, its speed felt like that of a typhoon. This silhouette undeniably belonged to a dinosaur—one of the most primitive and expert predators of the reptilian dynasty on Earth. It was surprising to encounter such a creature in this place; perhaps the climate here had helped it survive.
Given these circumstances, it was unclear what had allowed these dinosaurs to evade major disasters and migrate underground in ancient times. They seemed to lack any special abilities for such feats. Reflecting on it now, it was likely due to a series of consequences triggered by tectonic shifts.
The Tyrannosaurus quickly closed the distance, now less than eight hundred meters away, entering the range for detection. Just moments ago, it had seemed so far away, but now the gap had narrowed significantly; it would reach them in no time.
Hunger drives creatures to exhibit extreme aggression, destructiveness, and predatory behavior—this applied to humans as well as to lower life forms like the Tyrannosaurus. Suddenly, a roar erupted violently as the figure drew closer; it seemed to have made its first choice, likely targeting the easiest prey.
Everyone instinctively swallowed hard and glanced at Xiong Tai beside them.
Xiong Tai, who had not been prepared for this situation, sensed something ominous and instinctively took a step back. He waved his hands dismissively and said, "What are you all looking at me for? Do I look like food? No way! Just because I’m built like this doesn’t mean I’m tasty; I’m all muscle! You’d choke on me! You all look more appetizing; you must taste like pork belly."
"No, no, no! Maybe the Tyrannosaurus prefers something tough like you—it can spit you out if it can't chew you up and come back for seconds when it's hungry," Ross chimed in with unexpected logic.
The atmosphere within the team lightened somewhat, but this was hardly the right time for jokes. In moments like these, they needed to be in a state of readiness; it felt like a fleeting moment before death—a false sense of security. The size of that Tyrannosaurus was truly enormous. Once it entered the scope's range, silver bullets shot forth like streaks of light.
Five hundred meters marked their effective range; the power of the Gauss Sniper Rifle would be even greater at this distance. Meanwhile, others hurriedly retrieved grenades, pulling pins and tossing them out. The explosive power of high-explosive bombs was formidable—there were plenty available for use. They hurled them toward the dark figure.
The shadow flickered as it moved; surprisingly, this Tyrannosaurus not only excelled in straight-line speed but also demonstrated remarkable agility and evasiveness in combat. However, Gauss bullets were still effective against such trajectories; after all, compared to enhanced humans, their speed was nearly impossible to track. But for a creature as large as a Tyrannosaurus, even if it moved quickly, its form remained visible. The penetrating power and tearing force of Gauss bullets were formidable—they were specially modified super technology weapons.
A gunshot rang out, the bullet piercing through the right leg bone of the Tyrannosaurus. The creature lurched forward slightly before crashing into the sand. Meanwhile, the Sniper Rifle was no longer firing single shots; that would be a waste of time, as the Tyrannosaurus would soon claw its way out of the pile of sand.
Seizing the opportunity, Ross grabbed the Sunshoot Bow and removed several Alchemical Arrow Feathers. Each feather was coated with a liquid containing Deadly Poison mercury, which was highly toxic to humans—causing blindness at best and death at worst.
Even so, mercury was still a potent toxin for the Tyrannosaurus. Perhaps due to its massive size, this small amount of mercury might not be enough to have a significant effect. It would require hitting specific targets to enhance skin absorption. This was a specially formulated mercury, more toxic than industrial-grade mercury by several times. It was unclear whether he had brought such a substance for precaution or some other reason.
Feeling the team come together in that moment, Freyr, as the leader, couldn't have been happier. He immediately took action, retrieving his Sniper Rifle from his ring. This weapon, once standard for military snipers, was now finally ready for use. He had maintained it well, preparing for moments just like this.
In truth, he should have drawn his weapon earlier; however, he wanted to test it at a critical moment while letting his teammates handle the initial tasks.
He had no choice now but to aim down the scope. After measuring wind speed, a loud crack echoed as a copper bullet shot forth.
Perhaps due to its innate sensitivity, the Tyrannosaurus managed to lift its head and evade the bullet's trajectory, causing the first shot to miss entirely. However, it could not escape the subsequent barrage of bullets and grenades. Despite its attempts to observe from a distance, it was struck and felt an overwhelming frustration; normally, it could dispatch such foes with a simple charge, but now it was being held back.
What was happening? Why couldn't it react quickly enough?
Before them stood no other threats; after all, the Tyrannosaurus was not an intelligent creature. Its eyes were pierced directly by a shot, causing immense pain. Then came the combination of Gauss Sniper Bullets and Alchemical Arrow Feathers along with grenades.
With a thunderous crash, the Tyrannosaurus fell to the ground, gradually losing its Life Force. Although its Defense Power was indeed formidable, thick skin could only do so much against a Sniper Rifle. As long as they kept their distance and prevented close combat, their ranged attacks could effectively hinder its movements.
