New Era of Humanity in the Apocalypse
Sleep needed to be ample, so the price to pay during this period might be quite high.
The fear was that while they were asleep, an oblivious predator might trample over them, turning them into the most tragic team. If that happened, they might not even understand why such a thing occurred, and dying in a tragedy could sometimes be quite embarrassing.
Fortunately, what they feared did not come to pass. After a while, a few of them woke up first from their slumber. Their reactions upon waking were far from optimistic; their muscles ached terribly, and they needed to move around a bit to gradually suppress that soreness. Getting up felt chaotic.
On one hand, there wasn't much time left for further preparation; on the other hand, the problems they were Confronting had multiplied. Now their timing devices had malfunctioned, and in many situations, they could only estimate how much time had passed. They used a stopwatch set for four hours to measure time, then carved a notch on their Wooden Stick to keep track of how long they had been there.
In truth, this method was entirely pointless; after all, they couldn't stay there forever. The failure of their watches and electronic devices was not something they had just discovered; it was merely a spur-of-the-moment thought to check the time that revealed their digital watch's Virtual Screen had long since gone fuzzy.
Those who held such thoughts must have been quite naive. According to the markings on the stick, they had already spent four hours inside. Yet they had only rested for six hours. If calculated this way, it meant that at least forty people had disappeared just to get some sleep. Their bodies could hardly withstand it. Moreover, after enduring several exhausting battles, even those who hadn't exerted themselves much felt limited in energy. Freyr's physical condition had slightly improved, but it seemed he was still worse off than before he had slept.
Setting out again might pose some issues. Fortunately, after resting for a moment before departing, they carried recovery implants in their luggage that could be used for exercise to temporarily invigorate their bodies. As they lay there with their eyes closed, the machines would help stretch their muscles and ligaments. Initially, they felt a tingling sensation as electrical currents coursed through their muscles, but after a while, that numbness gradually faded away, replaced by the refreshing feeling of muscle activity.
It would take a long time for their bodies to shake off that soreness. Luckily, after getting some sleep, they managed to replenish their energy. If they continued in that state of unawareness regarding their Exhausted condition, it could lead to sudden death. After all, the human body is not like a rechargeable battery; once drained of power, it cannot continue functioning until recharged for better performance. Human capabilities are limited; pushing them to Ultimate levels can lead to severe consequences like muscle strain or damage to various membranes. Sadly, many scientists often treat the human body as if it were a battery used for continuous progress. While such progress is indeed possible and many humans do rely on this constant advancement, more individuals suffer from injuries and ailments due to excessive Exhausted conditions—genetically speaking, these individuals simply do not meet the standard.
Perhaps only one in a billion among humanity possesses extraordinary physical qualities; those whose genetic data reaches optimal levels might achieve complementary effects akin to being living batteries.
Such individuals should still be quite rare—a remarkable existence.
Three more hours passed slowly as their bodies finally began to recover enough for free movement without issues. However, any labor-related strains would require careful nurturing back home for full recovery. Just as troublesome events kept arising one after another, Freyr's condition had become Exhausted three times already. He was currently using various supplements alongside expensive herbs and food items like ginseng and goji berries—crafted into nourishing soup by miniature food robots. Of course, these could also be made into concentrated medicinal pills; however, pills lacked the refreshing sensation one experienced when consuming soup.
The soup ingredients, after being mixed with various seasonings, can stimulate the stomach's activity and provide significant benefits to the body.
Under such nourishing conditions, if the body still does not reach the desired recovery, it can be concluded that their mission must come to an end. This situation has already exceeded their initial estimates. The results recorded by the Survey Gem will be submitted, and they will certainly receive appropriate compensation for this mission.
Moreover, they must return as soon as possible. However, they need to ensure that Freyr can leave this place freely. Although it is not absolutely safe here, once they go outside, they will not have the same peace of mind for recovery. There is truly no place to take refuge, and it is unimaginable how they could survive in such circumstances.
The team's overall strength is not very strong; they rely on individual powerhouses to survive. Freyr has become a key figure that the team focuses on protecting. Even if it involves great danger, he must be prioritized for protection. The immediate issue is to restore his health. Although over-nourishment will inevitably burden his body, it seems there are no other options in this situation.
Using both negative and positive extremes of ingredients to create a balanced soup truly appears to be nourishing.
The time for recovery has been extended once again, but there is no way around it. Although the others are ready, Freyr is simply too weak. While these soup ingredients may not restore his severely weakened body in a short time, at least they can help maintain a semblance of vitality and prevent his condition from deteriorating further.
His eyes are sunken with deep dark circles—this is Freyr's current state. It feels like no amount of sleep will help; although sleep is crucial now, if he continues to sleep like this, it might take him over ten days just to return to a normal state. Continuous depletion of energy to the Ultimate level has become a headache even for the doctors.
Unsurprisingly, the others hurriedly came over to alleviate some of his pressure with medical methods—muscle relaxation or massage. They are also trying to extend his sleep time as much as possible. After all, staying in this place should be the safest option until they are certain about leaving.
If they can exit safely, that would be ideal; however, it will still take at least twenty more hours to return to the Hunter Association. Along the way, they might encounter unforeseen circumstances that could further delay them. Once Freyr returns, his condition may worsen again; they absolutely cannot allow his body to continue deteriorating and must ensure he receives proper nourishment. The initial nourishment must be approached carefully; they cannot overwhelm his already weakened body with excessive stimulation, as that could lead to even more complications.
