"Go stop him," Freyr said, throwing a glance that conveyed the general idea.
"Got it, I'm on it," Xiong Tai replied, scampering over to the exit. He struck a pose as if claiming the territory, and the man approaching the door was clearly startled, taking a shaky step back.
"Hey, don't be scared, I'm a good guy," Xiong Tai suddenly spoke up. Once the man regained his composure, he seemed to sense that Xiong Tai meant no harm and decided to clarify his intentions. "I have a question for you, is that okay? About the people here."
The man shuddered slightly but realized he had nothing to lose since he was leaving anyway. He lifted his head and continued, "Alright, to be honest, since I'm leaving, there are some things I need to make clear. You really can't stay here any longer. The system has been hacked and permissions altered without anyone noticing beforehand. So if you have any questions, you should ask someone higher up, like your President Hilbert." Just then, someone peeked in from the exit, prompting him to add, "Uh, buddy, I've been waiting for you for a while now. We need to conduct a light scan on you to see if you're taking anything out with you. We must ensure this point, so please hurry up and don't fall behind."
"Alright, fine. I'll be right there. I can't stand this nonsense; I'm a person, not an animal," the man suddenly shouted like a mad dog. However, once his emotions calmed down a bit, he lowered his head and rubbed his chin. "Anyway, that's all I know. This Wanderer's Home might undergo significant changes. This time's breach isn't our fault. So let's hope we don't meet again." His voice trailed off as he slowly put on his glasses and walked toward another exit.
Following him was a Black man wearing sunglasses, accompanied by others who appeared to be staff members in white striped uniforms. It seemed they were headed somewhere for memory erasure; the organization maintained strict control over internal information.
The Black man glanced at Xiong Tai at the door and nodded slightly before asking, "Is there anything else? Are you also staff?"
Detecting the disdain in his tone, Xiong Tai quickly shook his head and declined, "No, no. Sorry for the interruption." He returned to his team as silence fell over the door area. It looked like the crowd was gradually dispersing; they were likely being taken away for memory erasure. Deceiving them into thinking they were going for a light scan was indeed a clever tactic; if they were told it was for a brief memory wipe procedure, no one would willingly go.
However, with regulations and laws in place, they had no choice but to comply with the order and obediently entered the memory erasure room.
"How did it go?" Freyr asked. Seeing Xiong Tai's flustered demeanor indicated he had learned something important after staring intently from afar for quite some time; he hoped their efforts wouldn't be in vain.
"Hehe, it's quite awkward," Xiong Tai replied sheepishly. "They've already been let go; aside from some higher-ups who need to take responsibility, these ordinary staff members are being sent away for memory erasure. He told us that if we have any issues, we should contact Hilbert—oh, I mean President." Xiong Tai recited this information honestly.
"Is that so? I knew they must have known about it in advance," Freyr said with a smile.
"What should we do now?" Ross suddenly asked. At a time like this, no one found it strange that someone would ask such a question. However, Ross was one of the wisest members of the team, and to hear him ask something so foolish was truly baffling. The others looked at him for a while, stroking their chins, and then turned away to ponder.
"Uh, I didn't expect you to be the one to ask that," Freyr expressed his confusion, but after thinking about it, he realized it didn't really matter.
"Of course, we need to go to the office and ask Hilbert what exactly is going on." They had not anticipated encountering such a situation. Although the reasonable explanation for the last incident was that the Gold and Silver Duo were too old and might have made mistakes due to their efficiency, this time it was surprising that everyone at Wanderer's Home had been cleared out. Such an action was truly incomprehensible; it seemed they were preparing to shift the blame onto these unrelated individuals, which was hardly beneficial.
However, this situation likely affected more than just their team. The Hunter Association had never encountered such trouble before, and now two major errors had occurred within a year. There must be something sinister at play; they were risking their lives here and could not allow their hard-earned mission to be dismissed in such a manner. That would be detrimental to unity.
As everyone contemplated this, they quickly left Wanderer's Home and headed to a nearby building. It was unusual for such situations to arise, but this building felt strange. There was a table set up next to the elevator at the entrance, where two people sat waiting. When someone approached, they would ask which floor they were going to.
"What floor are you going to?" One of them suddenly spoke as the elevator arrived.
"The top floor," Freyr replied curtly, giving the person a disdainful glance.
"Sorry, the elevator is under maintenance. It will take some time before you can access the top floor. Please wait for further notice," the person explained. It turned out he was the attendant; clearly, there were issues within the association if even accessing the upper floors required monitoring.
"I'm sorry, but we have something very important to discuss with the President. We must go up; you know you can't stop me," Freyr insisted.
"Sorry, it's no use; this route is blocked," the attendant continued shaking his head without any change in expression. Freyr had always been good at reading people, but this time he couldn't discern anything from the attendant's demeanor, leaving him feeling somewhat disappointed.
"Let us up! I know that the President is avoiding us, too scared to face us. He must have something to hide, right? Haha, just wait and see my twin hammers!" Xiong Tai suddenly grabbed a nearby object and hurled it with all his might, causing the entire platform to scatter.
Yet, despite this, the two administrators remained seated at the elevator door, showing no intention of moving aside.
"There's no need for this. We just want to go up and clarify the situation. Please, let us through," Ross spoke up.
The administrators did not respond.
Xiong Tai became agitated, gripping his twin hammers tightly in his hands as if thunder itself had erupted around him. It felt like a single strike could send them flying. "Fight me! Watch me smash you!"
