New Era of Humanity in the Apocalypse
The spirit of Alpha was as normal as could be; the current voltage was extremely stable, only waking him from his slumber during alarms. Aside from being called, this butler knew when to speak and when to remain silent.
In a sense, such a system butler was truly remarkable. Without human thinking, it possessed a strong ability to discern intensity. The map had long been input into the system, allowing it to identify obstacles and ensure the safety of those inside the vehicle—this was the very purpose of its existence. Just then, a seat in front of the driver's seat suddenly separated, and Freyr stood up, while the voice of Grim Reaper Weasel became frantically responsive.
In that driver's seat sat a person surrounded by airbags, driving the vehicle as if they were real. After rounding a corner, the car accelerated suddenly, and aggressive firepower roared to life. The voice of the Demon Commander Version's Terminator became wildly intense, bullets unleashed, cutting down the grass in front of them.
The speed of these insects was astonishingly fast; unless one shot at them the moment they lunged forward, hitting them was nearly impossible. They could maneuver around the terrain with their speed, using pressure points as shields while attempting to close in.
Regardless, these firearms couldn't hit them. However, there was an advantage to this; at least they could suppress their speed, preventing them from advancing. The firepower of the Terminator was incredibly strong; with its virtual cover fire, nearby insects were torn apart. The kinetic energy of the Destroyer was formidable; once it hit its target, its pinpoint accuracy was impressive. Duan Shuai would continuously fire until that insect was left behind and killed.
The firepower of the Gatling Gun was intensely concentrated; a large string of bullets linked together by a thousand rounds meant that wherever they went, those insects would have to make an effort to evade. However, being hit essentially sealed their fate; these insects were fast but lacked mid-range explosive power.
Thus, given their creation habits, these insects' Defense Power surely fell short. They were sluggish in behavior and lacked agility despite their strong Defense Power. Under such concentrated firepower, they would likely be obliterated; perhaps these insects truly were predators of the jungle.
The pursuit continued at a steady pace; it seemed that under the suppression of artillery fire, they could not show their heads for a short time. Yet they always used the terrain to shield their vital points and calculated the length of the jungle along with the duration of gunfire. It appeared they planned to rush out during a lull in firing.
"These Stink Bugs are so underhanded," Xiong Tai exclaimed angrily as he kicked Ross beside him.
"What’s wrong? Can’t you see I’m busy?" The people in the vehicle were all frantic. The Death Scythe continued to unleash its effects; just imagine how exaggerated it would be with fourteen firearms continuously firing! Bullets swept through the forest like a carpet; some animals that weren’t careful enough were struck down and lay motionless on the ground.
It was truly a tragic situation; they were innocent victims. However, some people had no choice but to kill certain things to survive. These insects possessed extremely keen insight—especially their sense of smell—sensitive to blood like sharks ruling the ocean; even a drop of blood could be clearly distinguished. Unable to resist blood's allure, they would swarm around injured animals and attack relentlessly.
The animals in the vehicle were the only ones who could escape the past. No one had anticipated such an outcome, and the people inside the vehicle were filled with joy as they approached the exit of the forest.
"Strange, it seems like they're not following us," Freyr muttered first.
"Isn't that a good thing?" Ross's voice chimed in.
The vehicle sped forward, bursting out of the exit of the Primitive Jungle. Everyone was astonished to find that at the border of the Primitive Jungle, those bizarre, shark-like creatures were waiting at the edge, casting hostile glances at them, their mouths tinged with red.
It was hard to tell whether it was their own blood or that of the deceased creatures they had dealt with. Regardless, their fate was undoubtedly sealed; they could not escape the clutches of these insects.
The insects made their home in the forest and would not rush out, but that didn’t mean they wouldn’t be tempted to venture out if the outside world held strong allure. Now, with the vehicle speeding up, soon not even a shadow could be seen.
"How about it? They didn't follow us, right?" Freyr asked again.
"Yeah, they're all frozen in place, like frightened lambs," Relock replied as he activated Hawkeye, scanning through his Sniper Rifle's scope to observe what was happening on the other side. Although it was already beyond their range, Hawkeye still allowed for infinite magnification, revealing distant scenes.
"Right, lambs—these lambs are murderous beasts. Ugh, we definitely need to alert our superiors when we get back and use explosives to flatten this forest," Ross said as he sat down beside them, emptying out spent cartridges and loading fresh ammunition. He then disengaged the safety and firmly tucked his handgun into his lower back, letting out a deep breath as he spoke calmly.
"Exactly, I think so too. These things seem to have devoured quite a few people. We’ll have to pass through this way again when we return, but it’s too dangerous. We should just fly over it next time; after all, it’s not a long route," Freyr suggested.
"Yeah, I plan to toss a few High-Explosive Grenades then; who knows, we might take out a few of them," Duan Shuai added.
"Nobody detected any hostility back there; thanks to Nosty's mental scan. Without that, we might not have had such an easy time. It’s truly a cursed situation; every time we go out, something happens. Sigh," Freyr lamented as he felt that recent missions had been anything but smooth, filled with obstacles along the way.
"This isn't something I discovered on my own. I stumbled upon their hostility when I occasionally activated the scan. If it weren't for that, I might not have noticed them at all. Don't forget, I can sense your thoughts and also feel the hostility of those entities. If emotions are not controlled well, I can perceive their intentions as well," Nosty said.
"Is that so? Although I don't quite understand your thoughts, I still think you're really impressive," Freyr replied.
"Not really, but I appreciate your compliment," Nosty responded lightly from the back seat. Being praised was indeed an honor, especially coming from the leader of the team.
