Freyr had already taken out the Virtual Screen again and said, "Alpha, can you hear me? Please respond."
"I'm here. What's up?" Alpha's voice remained calm, but it seemed much quieter on the other end, indicating that they had finished warming up.
"Since you're warmed up, activate the tracking function. I have the key; just follow my signal," Freyr continued.
"Understood. I'm two kilometers away from you and will arrive within thirty seconds," Alpha replied.
"Great, thanks." Freyr tucked the controller into the inner pocket of his jacket.
Meanwhile, the others showed no signs of slowing down. The heavy footsteps behind them felt as if hundreds of mammoths were chasing them. However, without the help of vehicles, how could they escape this place? The distance to the nearest human city was still quite far, but those creatures could find their way there eventually; with their speed, they could reach it in about a week.
If agriculture, geography, and fields could vanish in an instant, the entire Human Alliance would collapse. Without food, humanity's future would be dire. Therefore, they couldn't simply escape; a large amount of heavy weaponry was stored in the vehicles. As long as Alpha drove over, at least that area could be turned into a battlefield.
Suddenly, a whistling sound pierced the air—it was a silver flying car. It had no visible exhaust flames and was entirely suspended in the air thanks to its Anti-Gravity Module.
At this point, Buck Bugs were also closing in behind them. Freyr instructed Duan Shuai to be the first to board. Duan Shuai promptly jumped into the vehicle and pulled out his Demon Commander Version Terminator, directing his remaining bullets at those pesky Buck Bugs—after all, it didn't really matter at this point.
The sound of bullets whizzing through the air filled the space as everyone boarded and drew their weapons. Most had long-range firearms: Sniper Rifles, Gauss Sniper Rifles, Spectacled Cobras; even those with lesser weapons had bows and arrows. Freyr used his Grim Reaper Weasel as dual pistols for precise shots and also took magazines from his companions' Grim Reaper Weasels as supplies. If they couldn't eliminate these bugs all at once, escaping would be impossible; returning might even result in severe punishment.
They never seriously considered using explosives to destroy the Buck Bugs' nest; a discreet execution would be much less troublesome. These creatures were known for secreting Mithril; as long as humans weren't confused by migration issues, they could tolerate allowing them to wreak havoc in designated areas.
As such, Alpha maneuvered the vehicle to hover slowly above the ground where a dark mass of swirling clouds gathered—a large group of Buck Bugs suddenly halted their advance. Bullets rained down upon them; although Mithril bodies had significant resistance, stray bullets could still inflict minor damage—leaving marks on their bodies was certainly possible. Powerful weapons like Gauss Sniper Rifles could take down a Buck Bug in one shot.
The bullets from the Terminator roared like a storm, striking the bodies and sparking everywhere. The efficiency was astonishing, with some bullets hitting vital spots directly. Parker Parkinson was using incendiary rounds combined with high-explosive bombs, achieving remarkable results as flames shot up to four or five meters high.
The vehicle flew in a circle above, pouring diesel down to create a ring. Then, it ignited, turning the area into a burning ground. Although these bugs could withstand bullet penetration, they surely couldn't endure the searing heat. This was indeed a viable combat strategy.
The intense fire proved effective, preventing the Buck Bugs from advancing even a step. However, this method of burning would eventually extinguish if there was nothing left to burn. Therefore, they continued to throw incendiary bombs into the dense clusters of bugs and dropped high-explosive bombs, creating flames that could instantly vaporize the bodies of bugs within a certain radius; what happened to the corpses was irrelevant.
At this moment, they were still suspended in mid-air, with gunfire continuously erupting from the hovering vehicle. The surrounding scene resembled a fiery purgatory, but everyone understood that the defense power of the Buck Bugs at night was astonishingly strong. They absolutely could not allow any survivors; a few remaining bugs were not too concerning, but if the dense swarm entered the city, within a night, half the city would be annihilated.
It was understandable that no one wanted such an event to occur nearby. The flames consumed everything as if red lotus fire had burned into the sky. They believed the fire wouldn't spread, but in reality, most of these bugs had sustained significant damage; it was impossible for any bug to remain unharmed under such high temperatures.
This was incredible; however, any bug that dared to show its head would be shot down instantly. After being scorched by the intense heat, their bodies became as fragile as paper. The gunfire continued for quite some time until it eventually subsided. The vehicle flew low for half an hour before they carefully observed their surroundings. When Nosty signaled it was time to stop, they would head to their next destination.
"How did we do? Did we eliminate them thoroughly?" Freyr asked.
"There are still a few survivors. I'll draw a map; you just need to throw a few high-explosive bombs in those directions," Nosty's eyes glimmered with blue light as he slowly opened them.
He began drawing several arrow patterns on paper, and upon seeing where he pointed, everyone immediately nodded in agreement. Their arm strength was impressive, so throwing bombs several dozen meters was no problem at all; accuracy was never an issue.
Suddenly, the vehicle shook again as the sound of explosions erupted below. Freyr jumped out of the vehicle and began searching through the intact corpses, collecting them one by one into his ring.
"I need one hundred pieces in perfect condition. Remember? Are you ready to move?"
With a nod from Nosty, everyone quickly jumped down together and swiftly completed their task.
One hundred corpses were not a lot; at least a thousand bugs had died on the scene. With such numbers, picking out a few intact bodies was hardly a problem. However, the others seemed to lack any strength to struggle further. They hurriedly collected the corpses, checked them, and then tossed them into their rings.
About ten minutes later, after verifying all the Buck Bugs in their rings, their mission was considered complete.
