However, after a long time of silence, the only sound that echoed back to him was his own voice bouncing off the walls. He stood still for a moment and noticed that the cracks beneath his feet were becoming increasingly peculiar.
Looking down through the fissures, he saw a vast expanse of red liquid below, currently calm. This was definitely not some ketchup; it was molten lava in a tranquil state.
Gazing back at the area he had just come from, he realized it was completely empty now, revealing a rather large gap. Observing the speed at which the crack was expanding, it seemed to be growing wider by the second, soon surpassing what he could endure. Duan Shuai thought of a way to escape and decided to jump sideways, hoping to come up with another plan. But just as he steadied himself to leap, an unexpected situation occurred.
The ground split open again, extending toward where he stood. His foot slipped, and the ground beneath him fractured. He found himself sliding into an empty space with no foothold, quickly plunging into the searing molten lava below.
"Is this how I die? I can't accept this! Ahhh!" His screams echoed out, but still, there was no response.
With a splash, he disappeared into the lava, and his voice faded away.
"Whoosh whoosh whoosh~"
"Uh uh uh, how long have we been walking here?" Meanwhile, in another location, it seemed like this was the third group of people. They had been very quiet along their journey, encountering no traps or dangers nearby, yet there were many strange occurrences.
They had fallen into an endless loop—unable to stop or find a way out or even solve their predicament. Aside from their relentless march forward, they felt nothing amiss. The straight path felt like an endless corridor; they traced their fingers along the walls and marked their passage. Yet when they turned back, they found one of their marks still visible on the wall, sending both of them into a panic.
This duo consisted of Parker and Relock. Both were gunmen but had been separated into this group this time. Overall, Parker appeared quite unsettled; his execution skills had always been the weakest in the team. Relock was also quite unique in his own right because both of their behavioral patterns required someone behind them to give them a push before they would move forward sluggishly.
Thus, in terms of overall thought processes, their actions were simply too immature. Now they found themselves facing a wall that seemed to trap them endlessly; no matter what they did, they couldn't escape. The straight distance felt incomprehensible; those marks on the wall were clear evidence of their cyclical journey.
"Uh uh uh, what's going on? Are we experiencing that rumored wall trap?" Parker stammered nervously.
"Not that serious, right? Let's keep moving forward and see if we can find some familiar patterns," Relock said calmly. Although he was tired, he would never admit to feeling exhausted or overwhelmed.
While such negative thoughts might not be helpful in a place like this, he tried to avoid voicing them, not wanting to affect those around him—though there weren't many left. He was determined not to let the atmosphere weigh him down. Turning slightly, he glanced back at Parker and continued, "You stay here; I'll go ahead and take a look." Without waiting for Parker's response, he pressed on, his figure disappearing into the darkness, leaving only the sound of his footsteps fading away.
Parker cast a desperate glance at the surrounding environment, trembling slightly as he muttered, "What a lack of loyalty; you really left me here. I won't let you off easy even if I become a ghost."
Suddenly, he felt a pair of eyes watching him—a chilling presence mixed with a strong sense of murderous intent.
"Are there other enemies nearby?"
As a gunslinger, being targeted triggered an instinctive reaction within him. When he turned around, all he saw was darkness. Yet, he had already drawn Grim Reaper Weasel, positioning both guns in front of him, ready to fire at anyone who dared to show themselves.
"Who’s there? Show yourself!" Parker shouted.
At first, there was no response—only the sound of footsteps approaching from that direction.
"It's me! Don't shoot! Were you just standing here the whole time?" The voice emerged slowly, familiar enough that Parker immediately lowered his weapons in surprise.
"How could it be you? So you were the one watching me earlier?" Parker asked.
"You, what are you doing? I'm asking if you've been standing here motionless." A familiar figure stepped out from the shadows, his expression cold and even tinged with a hint of suspicion as he slowly approached Parker.
Parker would never aim his gun at a comrade, even if their relationship within the team was strained. He would never point a weapon at a brother who had his back. However, if something else had occurred, it could lead him to raise his weapon, unless this Parker was not the Parker he imagined.
The two faced off. "So, have you really been standing here all this time, Parker?" Relock's words were brief, almost as if he were guarding his words carefully.
Parker had no ulterior motives; he just wanted both sides to express their thoughts. "I still feel something's off about you. Why did you suddenly move from the front to my back?" Parker instinctively sensed something was wrong. "But if you're acting this way, I find it very strange. Are you really Relock? Who is your superior since you left the team?"
Relock hadn't expected that question and was taken aback. Nevertheless, he responded slowly, "Who am I? I am Relock. After leaving this team, the only person I pledge my loyalty to is my Boss, and my Boss is the heir of the Menech Family, the future heir of the empire."
"Hahaha, wrong! I knew you were mistaken. You are not Relock; your Boss is Freyr, our team's Commander. You are a fake; you're lying." Parker began to level the barrel of Grim Reaper Weasel's gun, his intention to shoot growing stronger.
"I am not lying; this is all true. You are Freyr, my Boss. I am merely entrusted to take care of his underlings. If I leave, there will be new underlings to look after him." Relock replied calmly.
