Ros proposed a path.
Perhaps it was the allure of potential benefits that occupied his mind, but Freyr paid it no mind as they continued walking, following the route outlined in their guide.
There were many hidden threats here. Although the book suggested that those with a strong heart would surely survive, it left one wondering what that truly meant. It implied that besides their group, there were indigenous inhabitants living here, who might significantly influence their purpose for coming.
Such thoughts could lead to unpredictable consequences. It seemed there were other situations unfolding here, so they had to remain vigilant. Even if they pressed on, they needed to maintain a heightened sense of tension to investigate while avoiding attacks from those lurking in the shadows with ill intentions.
"Can we really get out this way?" Ros shouted from behind.
"Yes, according to the guidebook, we can indeed find our way out if we pay close attention. You'll notice some differences in certain areas. It would be great if the book could present this in a more structured manner; it would save us time. I suspect the author had some specific purpose in mind when writing this guide, which is why they didn't disclose everything explicitly. There are certainly hidden elements here that only careful observation can reveal. Looking at these pits on the ground, they must have formed when people fell, and they differ from most of ours."
Freyr spoke as he walked, keeping his gaze fixed on the clues scattered across the ground.
He then stopped at a spot and turned back to look. This area had numerous pits; metaphorically speaking, they resembled head-shaped indentations—evidence of people falling headfirst into the ground. There were also signs of soil being scraped away, indicating that they had survived afterward.
However, the soil here was indeed peculiar; it was much softer than outside. Otherwise, falling from such a height would have caused severe head injuries—this contradicted human anatomy. One could imagine that during construction, there must have been some intention behind making this place unusually exaggerated; both the terrain and environmental conditions were vastly different.
"This is the boundary area. If there's a significant difference, it's right around here. We need to investigate whether there's a connection between these two different soil layers," Freyr continued.
"Yes, it seems so," Ros sighed softly as he slowly crouched down, feeling the ground with his hands while observing carefully.
"Alright then, I'll check other areas. You keep searching and call me when you find something."
Freyr hurriedly moved in the opposite direction.
As he searched, he quickly noticed that the situation here was quite different. It wasn't long before he discovered a distinct drag mark, very obvious in its presence.
This mark was significantly different from others; after comparing it with wind-dried tests, it was clear that it was relatively new. If he guessed correctly, it appeared to be the result of a human shape being dragged, which meant he had to follow it.
Continuing along this trail might lead to other discoveries. Freyr's curiosity had always been strong, and driven by those thoughts, he pressed on until he stopped near a rock where the drag mark vanished without a trace.
"It disappeared. What could it be?"
Freyr thought to himself as he took a few steps forward. Leaning against the rock, he shifted slightly and suddenly jumped out, his Grim Reaper Weasel swiftly drawn out.
He aimed sharply at whatever lay behind the rock. Upon closer inspection, he realized there was indeed a significant difference here; it was more than he had imagined. There were two people behind the rock, one of whom looked equally shocked, as if they had encountered a wild beast.
The other person appeared to be in a deep sleep, but Freyr knew this individual was unconscious due to severe injuries. Looking at the tattered clothing and the long gash on their artery, it seemed likely that excessive blood loss had caused this state.
However, Freyr was still utterly astonished. He recognized the two individuals—Xiong Tai and Duan Shuai.
What had happened to Xiong Tai? He looked severely injured. Moreover, his Primordial Thunder Hammer showed signs of damage with serious cracks on the hammerhead. Upon closer inspection, Freyr noticed two bloody wounds on Xiong Tai's palms, where the skin had been torn away—clear signs of overexertion.
"What are you doing here?"
Freyr asked, still in shock. After a long moment of suppressing his thoughts, he approached and gently shook Xiong Tai's shoulder. It wasn't much force, but Xiong Tai gritted his teeth in pain. Realizing something was wrong, Freyr carefully cut away the top layer of clothing and was met with a horrifying sight.
The injuries on his body were truly horrifying, resembling wounds inflicted by a wild beast. The soft armor had been bitten through, with even the protective cotton layer bursting out. Some of the thicker parts were stuck together.
The situation here was dire, with significant implications and stark differences. It was a grim sight; simple medical methods were no longer effective.
"With such severe injuries, tell me, what exactly did you encounter?" Freyr asked, his muscles twitching slightly as he felt nauseous. It was evident that even a gentle squeeze would cause fresh blood to ooze from the wounds.
"I... I can't believe how terrible it is. We encountered a group of terrifying creatures, far scarier than any beast," Duan Shuai stammered, tears and snot streaming down his face.
What had happened to cause such a drastic change in Xiong Tai? His combat abilities were on par with Freyr's. Yet, what could have caused this? If he continued to press for answers, Duan Shuai's mental state seemed to be unraveling, and at this moment, all he could do was cry.
"This can't go on; we need to treat this quickly. There's no choice but for me to handle it myself."
Freyr looked at the battered body and quickly touched the ring on his hand. With a firm shake, an emergency medical kit fell out from the ring.
The medical kit contained various items: canvas, gloves, metal tweezers, an alcohol lamp, gauze, plenty of alcohol, cotton swabs for stopping bleeding, scissors, and fine thread for suturing wounds. All these essentials were brought out. However, the most crucial thing was to summon another person to assist him.
Unsure if Duan Shuai's current emotional state would allow him to help, Freyr decided it was best to call Ross back to join them.
