He sobbed and wept, as if mourning, yet revealed a secret that shattered my heart! Was this man even human?
He pursued me for four years in college, but my father thought he was unworthy of me, a rich heiress, aside from being somewhat handsome. My mother felt nothing for him either.
But I was blind, both in sight and heart, completely infatuated with him. After graduation, I "financed" him to start a company, leveraging connections and networks to bring him business!
Yet this bastard, after achieving so-called success, wanted to "exchange" me! Tina was an online acquaintance of his, not someone respectable. They had a group that used No Man's Land and Self-Driving Tour as a cover for their "Swap" game.
Coming here was part of their conspiracy, and I was the target of their design. That night, Tina eagerly went off with Liang Zhiyuan, while Liang Zhiyuan tacitly allowed Tina's husband to violate me as part of an "equivalent exchange"! According to their plan, even if I protested later, I would have no ground to stand on!
But they never expected that I would take Tina's husband's life. Although this was No Man's Land, in civilized society, these people had reputations to uphold. Once a life was lost, they feared the consequences and scattered like birds and beasts.
Liang Zhiyuan dared not leave with them; he knew my parents would never let him off the hook! Yet Tina wanted to be with him long-term. The two stayed put and truly waited for me.
But they also awaited the arrival of the Poaching Gang, which ultimately cost Tina her life. Even this black market establishment had deep ties with their so-called self-organized tour group.
With a murder on our hands, both Liang Zhiyuan and I were involved; the shop owner received orders from the gang leader: we could not leave No Man's Land alive!
I wanted nothing more than to bite this pretty boy in front of me! How could he waste my feelings for him? No, I had to survive; why should a well-bred, sweet-looking young lady like me accompany these scumbags to the grave?
A sharp stone pressed against my waist. I rubbed my bound wrists against it forcefully, letting my skin tear and sticky blood cover my hands. When had I ever endured such suffering? But at this moment, to survive, I could only bear it.
The smell of blood spread; Wolf Howl was nearby. Finally, my hands slipped free. Removing the bag from my head, dozens of green eyes surrounded us, waiting for the final command from the Alpha Wolf.
My body and legs were wrapped in Tape, and I bent down to feel inside the pocket of a Military Coat. There lay a handgun.
Tina's husband left not only a Military Coat in our car but also a Belt, which had two Holsters attached. One Holster contained a gun, while the other held two fully loaded Magazines. My father had taken me to a shooting range before, so this weapon wasn't entirely unfamiliar to me.
By sheer luck, I had made myself filthy, and those bad guys hadn’t thoroughly searched me. With the gun in hand, I aimed at the nearest pair of green eyes and pulled the trigger. The bullet flew out, though I had no idea where it landed, yet it was enough to instill fear. The pack of wolves began to stir uneasily. I pulled the trigger again, and with the sound of gunfire echoing, the wolves finally retreated into the endless darkness under the lead of the Alpha Wolf.
Having lost the gun, I used the Lighter that had once saved my life to burn the Tape off my body. For now, I set aside thoughts of betrayal and shame as I helped Liang Zhiyuan escape his predicament. We couldn’t wait for Dawn; they would come to check after Dawn, and by then we would still be trapped.
We quietly made our way back. Peering through the rear window, I saw a group of people playing cards in our room. A thick stack of cash lay in front of Knife-Faced, with a Satellite Phone resting beside him. We dared not confront them directly; there were too many of them, armed with more than one gun.
Reaching the yard, I found their Gas Can and twisted open the valve... Flames illuminated half the sky. The people inside rushed out in a frenzy, some wielding fire extinguishers while others pushed fire cans away.
I stepped onto Liang Zhiyuan's back and climbed through the rear window, grabbing phones and cash to shove into a bag before climbing back out on a stool.
We fled, desperately running. A flashlight beam shone behind us: "It's them! Grab your weapons and kill them!" The sound of gunfire followed with thuds as shotgun pellets hit behind me.
I ran as if my chest were on fire, gasping for breath. The shouts and curses grew closer. I shoved the Satellite Phone into Liang Zhiyuan's hands: "Call for help!"
Reloading with a new Magazine, I closed my eyes and shot backward. I could shoot at wolves but not at people. Two shots rang out, followed by screams from behind us. No one dared to chase us down anymore.
Time ticked away; whenever someone dared to advance, I fired a shot. When no one showed themselves, we remained locked in place. The longer it dragged on, the more advantageous it became for us.
"You bastards! I remember now; you're wearing my brother's coat! Where is he? What have you done to him? If you dare touch my brother, I'll make sure you never leave here!" Knife-Faced seemed to have lost his mind as he stood up recklessly with his double-barreled shotgun raised like a demon charging toward us.
I fired repeatedly, but I couldn't bring myself to shoot him; he charged forward fearlessly! This was my Achilles' heel. This Desperado rushed at me like a stubborn bull, and the shotgun blasts made the stones in front of me crackle! He was getting closer, and in the starlight, I could even see the glossy finish of his shotgun barrel reflecting light.
I should only have two bullets left in my handgun! If I couldn't kill him, I would fall into their hands, and at that point, life would be worse than death! But facing someone and shooting to kill— I truly lacked the courage for that.
In just a few seconds, when the shotgun was about to be pressed against my head, Liang Zhiyuan suddenly lunged at me. He tackled me down, snatched the gun from my hand, and like Knife-Faced across from us, he stood up recklessly and pulled the trigger at the opponent.
Gunfire erupted from both sides, and Liang Zhiyuan fell back heavily onto me. The impact knocked me unconscious.
When I woke up again, everything was white. My parents sat by the hospital bed, wiping their tears. "Oh dear, you’re awake! Your father and I were so worried!"
"What about him?" I asked weakly.
"Little Liang was a brave child; he killed that worst person, but he took many lead bullets himself... We couldn't save him..."
At the critical moment, the police helicopter arrived on the scene. Knife-Faced was dead, and everyone else dropped their weapons. I was saved, but Liang Zhiyuan was gone. He had saved me in my darkest hour. Only I knew he was also seeking redemption for himself.
I bought a burial plot for Liang Zhiyuan and personally laid him to rest. On his tombstone, I wrote with my own hand: Here Lies Mr. Liang Zhiyuan!
The captured Erhei identified: That guy named Liang had connections with our boss! The police asked me if I knew anything about it. I said, "I don't believe my husband would do anything illegal; I've never seen him do anything unlawful!"
He had passed away; everything had come to an end now.
(The End)
