Slowly, a patch of ground stirred slightly as a figure clad entirely in black emerged from the dirt, only their eyes visible. Cautiously, they glanced around before stumbling forward. 0

"Brother, it's not good to come and go like this," Qin Zhi Han suddenly stepped out from behind the mountain. 0

Su Ruolan followed closely behind. Having just used her Wood Elemental Ability to sense the surrounding plants, she noticed their roots were embedded in the soil, concealing an unusual energy hidden underground. She gestured to Qin Zhi Han, who understood that they should have Li Yuxuan lead the troops away while he and Su Ruolan stayed behind to hunt the last assassin. 0

Noticing the malice in the assassin's eyes, Qin Zhi Han frowned. "Do you know me?" 0

The assassin remained silent, suddenly dropping to one knee and striking the ground with one hand, unleashing a move called "Expand Territory." The earth beneath them cracked open, and Qin Zhi Han and Su Ruolan found themselves falling into the fissure, dirt cascading down upon them as the ground closed up, burying them alive. 0

Realizing something was wrong, Qin Zhi Han quickly pulled Su Ruolan into his embrace, shielding her from the falling debris. He then released a powerful gust of wind that blew away the loose dirt, allowing him to leap out of the ground with Su Ruolan in his arms. However, by this delay, the assassin had already lost their breath. 0

"Looks like he escaped," Qin Zhi Han shook off the dirt from his clothes, frowning slightly before asking with concern, "Are you alright?" 0

"I'm fine," Su Ruolan replied, her face slightly flushed. She had been caught off guard when Qin Zhi Han pulled her close; although it was to protect her, it still felt uncomfortable. She brushed off the dirt from her clothes and scanned their surroundings. Using her Devouring Ability on nearby plants and soil, she then left with Qin Zhi Han. Once they were certain they had truly departed, the assassin reappeared and quietly made their way toward the peak. 0

The illusion had indeed failed; if one enemy could breach it, countless others would soon follow. It was urgent to report back; time was running short. Qin Zhi Han thought to himself. 0

If the illusion operated on energy from meteorites, he hoped that the energy input just now would restart it and trap that assassin for a few more days. As long as no information leaked out, they could buy themselves some time. Su Ruolan thought quietly. 0

Back in the conference room, Ma Commander furrowed his brow upon hearing Qin Zhi Han's report and analysis of the current situation. Unlike A Group, Fourth Regiment was primarily composed of locals; relocating completely was a significant concern. 0

"Captain, while our base is easy to defend but hard to attack, we lack supplies. If we remain here too long, it will lead to our demise sooner or later. I’ve heard A Group is heading toward the capital; if we can establish a resource-rich and relatively stable base in the north, it would benefit everyone's future development. Time is of the essence; please make a decision soon," Qin Zhi Han urged again. 0

"I will not re-establish contact with the Huaxia Army until we clarify the truth about Commander Li," Ma Commander declared firmly. 0

"How about we send someone to ask A Group? After all, the identity of that Military Command official has not been verified," Zhang Deputy Commander suggested after a moment of contemplation. 0

"I'll go," Qin Zhi Han and Su Ruolan said in unison. 0

"Qin Vice Commander, it's not convenient for you to go right now. The situation at H Base needs your control, and we still require your support," Ma Commander replied. 0

Although Su Ruolan had not been at the base for long, Ma Commander valued loyalty and had come to trust and appreciate her due to her several contributions. "Su Squad Leader is indeed a good candidate, but the journey is long, and safety remains a concern. How many people do you plan to take?" 0

"I'm going on a secret mission; the fewer people, the better. Besides, the base needs more personnel right now. I'll just take a few from Second Company," Su Ruolan responded. 0

"That's too few. How about we assign a squad from A Series? They have previously provided security for Qi Commander," Zhang Deputy Commander suggested. 0

"Then it's settled. If we can confirm that Commander Li's death is unrelated to Huaxia Military Headquarters, we'll head north immediately. Until then, we'll continue to hold our ground here," Ma Commander said solemnly as he looked at Su Ruolan. "Everything depends on you." 0

"Understood." Looking at the eager faces of the senior officers in the conference room, Su Ruolan felt the weight of responsibility heavy upon her shoulders. It was crucial that Commander Li's incident had no ties to Huaxia Military Headquarters. Although these individuals were calm, Su Ruolan could sense their determination to fight with their backs against the wall. Despite their short time together, she had genuinely integrated into this unit and hoped she could truly help them. 0

"Upon my return, I also have some news to share: during the siege at H Base by zombies, Second-Level Zombies were discovered. They possess Energy Cores in their brains that can be absorbed by humans to enhance abilities and replenish energy," Qin Zhi Han stated candidly. 0

Su Ruolan was taken aback and looked at Qin Zhi Han, noticing he wasn't looking at her. 0

"Really? This is indeed valuable information. We need to strengthen our Core collection efforts to significantly boost our power," Ma Commander exclaimed excitedly as he slammed his hand on the table. 0

“Qin Zhi Han, what good things have you brought this time?” Zhang Deputy Commander said cheerfully as he hugged Qin Zhi Han and walked toward the door. “Let’s hurry and take a look.” 0

“Su Squad Leader, you should get ready too. We’ll be setting off early tomorrow,” Wang Zhi ordered. 0

“Yes,” Su Ruolan replied, saluting sharply before returning to her dormitory. She called Kong Xiang and Cheng Xi over to inform them about the upcoming schedule. 0

“Sister Su, I feel like sending a whole squad with us makes it seem like they don’t trust us,” Cheng Xi expressed his dissatisfaction. 0

“Don’t overthink it. If we don’t have familiar people with us, what if A Group suspects we are spies?” Kong Xiang countered. 0

“Report, Class Leader Li Yuxuan from A Series is here,” came a voice from outside the door. 0

Su Ruolan was surprised and opened the door. “What are you doing here?” 0

“When Commander Qi was around, I served as the guard squad leader, and he remembers me well. Plus, Li Wenzhi is my uncle, so it’s only fitting for me to come back to my original post. Please take care of me in the future, Su Squad Leader,” Li Yuxuan said playfully, winking. 0

Seeing a familiar face eased Kong Xiang and Cheng Xi’s concerns. The young people had been getting along well during this time, frequently exchanging insights and honing their abilities, benefiting from each other’s company. 0

After they left, Su Ruolan was preparing to enter her space for intensive practice when there was another knock at the door. Who could it be at this hour? 0

Opening the door, she found Qin Zhi Han standing outside. Upon seeing Su Ruolan, he handed her a box. “This journey is fraught with danger. Take this as a gift; I wish you safe travels.” Without waiting for Su Ruolan to respond, he turned and walked away, his left ear seemingly flushed. 0

Su Ruolan opened the box to find a finely crafted handgun—the Platinum Golden Eagle. It was the same weapon Qin Zhi Han had pointed out during their first meeting. In this apocalyptic world, this gun was quite valuable and hard to obtain. Along with that bottle of medicine, Qin Zhi Han's gift was incredibly precious. After pondering for a moment, Su Ruolan took out a bottle of water from her space and headed to Qin Zhi Han's dormitory. The room was empty. 0

Su Ruolan walked around the edge of the house in confusion. As she passed by, Zhang Deputy Commander noticed her and stopped, smiling, "Looking for Qin Vice Commander? He has already left." 0

Looking at the dark mountain path and thinking about Qin Zhi Han being alone in such a treacherous and dangerous environment, Su Ruolan decided to find him. 0

She hurried down the mountain path, constantly extending her senses to search. Ahead, she spotted a man walking briskly away. "You, stop!" Not knowing how to address Qin Zhi Han in that moment, Su Ruolan shouted anxiously. 0

The figure ahead immediately halted and turned around. Although Qin Zhi Han's expression remained stern, there was a clear surprise in his eyes. "What are you doing here?" 0

"This is for you; if you encounter danger, you can take a sip." Su Ruolan sincerely handed him a water bottle. "Take care of yourself." 0

Qin Zhi Han took the water bottle and placed it in his bag. He glanced at Su Ruolan, whose face was flushed from running, making her look even more radiant. "Let me escort you back up the mountain." 0

"No need, I can go back by myself," Su Ruolan quickly waved her hand. "I won't delay your journey." 0

"Hehe, are brother and sister in love? How sweet!" A male voice suddenly chimed in. 0

Both Qin Zhi Han and Su Ruolan were startled and immediately went on high alert. They saw a figure dressed entirely in black by the roadside, nibbling on a blade of grass while grinning at them. 0

That familiar attire and face belonged to the last assassin who had escaped—Jiang Yan, the captain of the H Base Cheetah Squad, an old acquaintance of theirs. 0
