Standing behind the Zombie, the Orange-Eyed Zombie looked at the brutal slaughter before him with a fierce expression, his eyes filled with contempt as he raised his head and howled once more. This time, the Zombies were once again infused with energy, like a massive carnivorous beast, completely overwhelming the human army, leaving no survivors in their wake. 0

Zhang Shou was utterly stunned by what he saw; it finally dawned on him just how grave his mistake had been. He turned to send someone to relay this critical information to Zhang Yu when suddenly he felt a sharp pain in his chest. Looking down, he saw a dagger piercing through his heart. Struggling to turn around, he caught sight of a stranger soldier leaning close to him, his complexion turning pale and gray, indicating he was half-Zombie. "It's all your fault... your wrong decisions... otherwise, we wouldn't be dying," the stranger soldier's words were slurred, but the hatred in his eyes was unmistakable. 0

"I'm sorry, I was wrong. I shouldn't have been so reckless without assessing the situation," Zhang Shou thought desperately. "Young Commander, please take care of yourself." As he gazed at the nearly extinct humans before him, an overwhelming sense of guilt washed over him as he took his last breath. 0

"What? Zhang Shou sacrificed himself?" In the conference room, Zhang Yan slammed his hand on the table in agitation. 0

"Yes, they failed to repel the Zombies. The Zombie army is now only fifteen kilometers from the city walls," a messenger reported. 0

"Let's go back and take a look." Just moments after entering the conference room for a brief rest, Zhang Yu received this news and felt a deep sorrow inside, though he showed no emotion on his face. 0

Fifteen kilometers outside the city walls, the dense Zombie army stood silently, gazing reverently at their king—the Orange-Eyed Zombie. Since following him, they not only had meat to eat but also regained a sense of dignity as Zombies. Some of them had partially regained their thoughts and initially loathed their identity. They resisted their instinct to consume raw flesh and regretted their desire to return to humanity. But now that it had come to this, what could they do? They had become the monsters they once despised! Who should be held accountable for their unwillingness? If they were mindless and killed without understanding, that would be one thing; however, now that they were aware and faced with swords raised by humans, they felt a surge of rebellion. They had never committed any wrongdoing in their lives; why should they suffer misfortune as humans and be slaughtered as Zombies? Were all those humans truly good people? They had consumed the dregs of humanity and helped cleanse their ranks—what right did they have to retaliate? Many Zombies had never eaten humans; why did they not distinguish between them and simply kill them all? When they were human, they always felt superior; now transformed into Zombies and becoming part of the food chain's other end, their mindset had changed. Following the Orange-Eyed Zombie and listening to his vision of a better future, they began to feel hope and vowed to remain loyal to this great leader for the rest of their lives, fighting through hardships to create a future for themselves. 0

"This group of monsters has killed so many of us; it's infuriating! We must eliminate them all," Zhang Yan said angrily upon learning of his brother's tragic death. He had lost all composure and was consumed by thoughts of revenge. "Young Commander, give the order to attack! I request to lead the charge." 0

"Calm down. Qiu Bai, how long ago was our last reinforcement sent out?" Zhang Yu gestured with his hand while gazing at the densely packed Zombies in the distance, frowning in contemplation. 0

"Two hours," Xu Qiubai quickly replied after calculating in his mind. 0

"That fast? A Group and Zhang Shou's forces combined had two full regiments; how could they be wiped out completely within five hours without a single survivor returning?" Zhang Yu found it increasingly perplexing and felt an unsettling sense of unease creeping into his heart. 0

“Young Commander, no matter what, they are coming. Let's prepare for the attack quickly,” Zhang Yan urged once again. 0

“Alright, Zhang Yan, you will lead the three regiments to probe their strength. Do not engage in prolonged battles; report back immediately if there are any developments,” Zhang Yu decisively commanded in a low voice. 0

Watching Zhang Yan take his orders and leave with enthusiasm, Zhang Yu furrowed his brow slightly. 0

“Young Commander, we have already lost quite a few men and equipment when we took H Base. Losing two regiments at once this time, while it may not be crippling, still weakens our strength. If Jiang learns of this and takes advantage of it, it could spell trouble for us! I think Zhang Yan is being too impulsive. Should we consider retreating instead?” Xu Qiubai calmly analyzed. 0

Zhang Yu remained silent, quietly observing the rapidly mobilizing troops below the city wall. “Has information from S Base been sent out?” 0

“I'm sorry, Young Commander. We dispatched a squad from the Vanguard Unit, but we have yet to see any signal flares indicating a successful breakout,” Xu Qiubai shook his head. 0

Feeling a bit restless, Zhang Yu loosened the button at his collar slightly. “Send another squad from the Vanguard Unit to scout ahead. Report back immediately if anything unusual is discovered.” 0

“Yes,” Xu Qiubai responded crisply before turning to give orders. The Vanguard Unit was Zhang Yu's elite force, each member having been painstakingly trained. Losing ten of them this time was truly regrettable. 0

As dawn broke after a long night, there was still no word from Zhang Yan, who had gone to gather intelligence with three regiments. The squad sent to observe also had not returned. The situation was both strange and disappointing. 0

Having never faced such a significant defeat, Zhang Yu rejected Xu Qiubai's suggestion to rest indoors and stood straight on the city wall throughout the night. Despite wearing a thicker coat, he still felt stiff from the autumn chill. As he watched the darkness transition to light, with large blue-black clouds turning into patches of white fluffy clouds, he finally spoke: “All personnel retreat immediately.” 0

S Base lay north of H Base. To travel from H Base to S Base, one had to pass through a horde of zombies, and that route was clearly no longer viable. The original plan had completely fallen apart. The troops began an orderly withdrawal towards Y Base, south of H Base. 0

Xu Qiubai informed the townspeople that anyone willing to leave should do so within an hour. Those unwilling would have to comply with orders. Upon hearing this announcement, the crowd erupted in chaos. Wealthy families quickly emptied their reserves and prepared to relocate en masse. Many impoverished citizens, lacking vehicles, could only run alongside cars with their families in tow. 0

Ninth Hospital. All the injured patients were gathered and evacuated. Looking at the still unconscious Qin Zhi Han, Cyan Flame had no choice but to carry him and follow the troops as they moved out. 0

Almost twenty kilometers after Zhang Yu and the others left H Base, the Orange-Eyed Zombie led a horde of Zombies into the city. 0

At this moment, in a Luxury Villa in Zone Two, a beautiful woman was urging, "Changjian, are you ready yet? Hurry up! The troops have already left. If we don't catch up now, it will be too late." 0

"I know, I know. Why are you so annoying, Wife? We can't leave without taking everything. What will we eat and drink?" a slightly overweight man replied impatiently. 0

Suddenly, the villa's front door was kicked open. "Where do you think you’re going?" It was the Orange-Eyed Zombie. 0
