"Ah!" A startled scream erupted as the beautiful woman immediately hid behind the Obese Man, trembling. "Don't eat me, don't eat me!" 0

The Obese Man quickly drew his gun, ready to shoot, but suddenly felt a sharp pain in his head. He clutched his head, bent over, and knelt on the ground, groaning in agony. "Guard! Guard!" 0

"Stop shouting; it's useless," the Orange-Eyed Zombie replied slowly. 0

It was then that the Obese Man realized that the Zombie could talk, and his face turned pale with fear. A puddle of water began to seep from beneath him, creating a foul odor. 0

With a mocking glint in its eyes, the Orange-Eyed Zombie couldn't believe that its family's fate had been altered by such a coward. It had lost all desire to torment him further and decided to send him and that woman to their end. 0

Leaving the nightmare of the villa behind, there was not a single living person left in the yard. Five Zombie Captains faithfully followed it, trailed by hundreds of Zombies, many of whom had just been transformed and still wore bodyguard uniforms. 0

Throughout H Base, there was no scene of slaughter like before when Zombies besieged the city. There was a hierarchy among the Zombies; those who had regained some human consciousness could control lower-level Zombies. The Zombie ranks executed their tasks in an orderly manner: those guarding the gates remained at their posts while others patrolled the main thoroughfares to maintain order within the city. The humans who had failed to escape were terrified at the sight of such a large group of Zombies and retreated helplessly, waiting for their fate. The Zombies seemed to have been warned not to attack humans proactively; they merely kept them confined within their homes. Only those who resisted were targeted for biting, but even then, they were not eaten—only maliciously turned into fellow Zombies. 0

Slowly approaching a shabby house in Zone Five, the door was locked tight. With a forceful twist, it broke the lock and pushed the door open. Inside was filled with dust, cobwebs hanging everywhere like white fluff. On the yellowing walls hung several photographs, each featuring the same Middle-Aged Woman and a young man who bore a striking resemblance to her, both smiling gently at the camera. With trembling hands, it touched these photos and whispered haltingly, "Mom... Mom, Xiao Er is back." Though the Orange-Eyed Zombie felt an overwhelming surge of emotion and sadness within, its eyes were dry and unable to shed a single tear. 0

"Ah! Zombie! Go away! Go away! Don't touch me!" Suddenly, a clear female voice rang out in alarm from outside. 0

The Orange-Eyed Zombie frowned but turned to step outside anyway. Two Zombies were preparing to grab a girl who was short but had a well-proportioned figure. Her complexion was decent; however, her expression appeared gloomy and irritable as she tried to feign brightness. As she dodged them, she caught sight of another Orange-Eyed Zombie emerging and nearly fainted from fright. In her frantic movements, she inadvertently glimpsed its severed right arm at elbow length and suddenly shouted, "Yi Xiao Brother! Is that you? It's me, Doudou!" 0

The Orange-Eyed Zombie, which had almost exited the yard, paused and turned to look at the girl. 0

"Yi Xiao Brother, it's really you! I knew you weren't dead. That's wonderful." The girl was overjoyed, but a hint of fear still lingered in her eyes. 0

"Brother, brother." Suddenly, a child's tender voice echoed in the courtyard. 0

Hearing that voice, the girl's expression changed dramatically. 0

It was Wei's voice. The Orange-Eyed Zombie finally showed a change in expression; it hesitated for a moment, pointed at the girl, and gestured in the air, indicating for her to search. 0

The other Zombies stepped aside to clear a path for the girl. Under immense pressure, the girl named Doudou skillfully walked toward a room in the courtyard. She pushed open the door to find a girl about four years old sitting on the ground, holding a somewhat tattered doll. The girl was so thin that she seemed like skin and bones; her limbs were extremely delicate, her hands dry and claw-like, and her hair was tangled and messy. 0

Was this really the lively, kind-hearted Wei? The same Wei who had given her steamed buns while starving herself to the point of fainting beside her? Doudou couldn't believe how much suffering Wei had endured in just a few months! The Orange-Eyed Zombie felt an urge to rush forward but hesitated, unable to do anything but watch as Doudou dragged Wei out. 0

"This is how you treat her?" The Orange-Eyed Zombie was furious but regained its composure, struggling to ask each word slowly. 0

The fact that a Zombie could speak shocked everyone again. Doudou's eyes darted around as she felt a glimmer of hope; perhaps this was her chance. She quickly squeezed out a few tears. "You have no idea how hard our lives have been. I've worked so hard to take care of her. Wei, right?" Doudou nudged Wei with her hand, but the girl stared blankly ahead, showing no reaction. 0

Doudou felt anxious inside and shouted, "Zhan Yixiao is back! Your brave brother has returned!" 0

"Brave brother is back? Where is he?" The mention of "Zhan Yixiao" seemed to trigger something in Wei; she suddenly regained her senses and began searching around. 0

The Orange-Eyed Zombie felt anxious but dared not move; it could only stand still and meet Wei's gaze. It waited for the girl to show fear and distance herself from it. It had prepared itself mentally for that moment. However, it did not expect that when Wei saw it, she would hesitate not at all. She ran straight toward it and threw herself into its embrace, crying loudly, "Brave brother, where have you been? Why did you take so long to come back? Don't ever leave Wei again." 0

To think that despite everything it had become, Wei could still recognize it without any fear at all. The Orange-Eyed Zombie—Zhan Yixiao—was overwhelmed with emotion but dared not return the embrace. It feared that it might transmit the Zombie Virus to Wei. Patiently, it coaxed her, "Wei, brother won't go away. Can you let go now?" Though she sobbed softly, Wei eventually released her grip and looked up at Zhan Yixiao with tear-filled eyes, appearing pitiful and endearing. 0

“Yi Xiao Brother, you have to protect me! There are so many Zombies, it's so scary.” Doudou pretended to tremble all over, her eyes revealing a hint of greed that quickly faded away. 0

Zhan Yixiao made a gesture, and the other Zombies moved away from Doudou. She quickly stepped forward, ready to take Wei's hand, but the girl stepped aside, looking pitifully at Zhan Yixiao and reaching out her hand toward him. 0

Zhan Yixiao thought for a moment, seeing the determination in Wei's eyes. He tore a piece from his clothing and wrapped it around his hand before taking Wei's hand and slowly walking out of the room he had originally occupied. 0

“Go find out how that girl named Doudou feels about this girl, and report back to me,” Zhan Yixiao instructed the Zombie Squad Leader beside him with a few gestures. The Zombie Captain nodded and left. Some of the Zombies stayed behind to seal off the entrance. 0

“Hey, Yi Xiao Brother, what do you mean by this? Are you going to protect me? Thanks! By the way, I haven't eaten much; can you bring me something?” Doudou called out loudly to Zhan Yixiao's retreating figure. 0

Zhan Yixiao carefully held Wei's hand as they moved forward, unaware that behind him, Doudou's face had twisted in extreme frustration, her hands wringing together. That brat, why did she have to run out at this moment? 0
