Once again arriving at Uncle Qin's tent, Su Ruolan brought Li Yuxuan along. Seeing Su Ruolan return with someone, Uncle Qin looked up, silently questioning with a hint of curiosity.
"Uncle Qin, it's like this. Actually, we are also part of the Huaxia Army. I apologize for not being truthful before. We came tonight to clarify something," Su Ruolan said, gathering her courage and speaking solemnly.
"You are also part of the Huaxia Army? Which unit?" Uncle Qin set down the tool he was holding and asked with a smile.
"Have you heard of the Huaxia Four Corps?" Li Yuxuan inquired, trying to suppress the excitement within. Facing a potential enemy, her feelings were quite complex.
"Of course, that's a unit of our Huaxia Army. However, I heard they were ambushed. Everyone is very angry and determined to take revenge," Uncle Qin replied earnestly.
"Were they ambushed or was it the work of the Huaxia Military Headquarters? Just because they came from humble beginnings, does that mean their loyalty is in question?" Li Yuxuan pressed on, her heart filled with anger.
"How could it be the Military Command's doing? We received news from the Government Army that the Huaxia Four Corps has been completely wiped out. The Huaxia Army is mostly made up of poor people joining to fight; everyone is equal here, and no one looks down on anyone else. We all fight for survival and for the future of humanity," Uncle Qin said, looking at Li Yuxuan with utmost seriousness.
"Can you speak on behalf of Commander Qi?" Li Yuxuan paused for a second before questioning him.
"I cannot represent Commander Qi, but I believe he would not do such a thing, nor would the Military Command wrong their own comrades or units," Uncle Qin explained patiently.
"I am Company Commander Li Yuxuan from the Huaxia Four Corps. There are some matters I hope to discuss directly with Commander Qi to get clear answers," Li Yuxuan revealed her identity, putting everything on the line. If he were an enemy, he would surely take action.
"Welcome! Everything will be clarified once you meet Commander Qi," Uncle Qin sincerely welcomed Su Ruolan and her companions. Although he had sensed some military demeanor from them before, he hadn’t expected them to truly be comrades.
With a temporary agreement reached, both sides experienced subtle shifts in their attitudes. Initially feeling closer to Uncle Qin and his troops, Li Yuxuan now felt somewhat uneasy. Meanwhile, Su Ruolan and her group had been more guarded around Uncle Qin but now felt a bit more at ease. However, out of consideration for Li Yuxuan's feelings, they did not overstep their bounds.
"Ruo Lan, there’s still over a month until the hundred days; you need to focus on training and leveling up," Reset finally found time amidst organizing space to remind Su Ruolan to practice her abilities.
That night, Su Ruolan entered the space to begin practicing her abilities. She often sparred and interacted with Cheng Xi and Monet within that space. Sometimes their battles became quite intense, causing the surroundings to shake violently as if mountains were crumbling and stones were flying. Unintentionally disturbing Bat King’s chosen mountain peak led to an explosive reaction; enraged by the interruption, Bat King emerged and unleashed fury upon them before soaring away in pride.
The group of people, covered in dirt and looking disheveled, exchanged glances. Cheng Xi gritted her teeth, watching the Bat King’s retreating figure with clenched fists, feeling a surge of defiance. If he had the ability, why not stay? Just wait and see if she wouldn’t knock his teeth out. It seemed that the Bat King sensed Cheng Xi's resentment; he casually glanced back, casting a disdainful look her way. Instantly, Cheng Xi transformed into a sycophant, nodding vigorously and waving goodbye. This fifteen-year-old girl with short hair had undergone careful nurturing and had shed her previous emaciated appearance. She was now growing normally, her height shooting up like budding willow branches. Her face was becoming rounder, and when she smiled, she looked quite adorable.
After spending a long time cultivating in the space, although Su Ruolan felt her foundation was much more solid than before, her progress remained slow.
“Ruo Lan, do you remember the Red Core?” Reset asked.
“Of course, why?” Su Ruolan replied.
“I sense there are subtle traces of Gold Element within it. You could let Cheng Xi try to absorb the energy inside,” Reset suggested. “As each of your contractors grows stronger, energy will correspondingly flow back to you.”
“What if it fails? I don’t want to put Cheng Xi at risk. Relying on the Core for upgrades is always external power; we need to strengthen our own efforts,” Su Ruolan said after some thought, shaking her head in refusal. “I can look for the White Crystal Core; that one is neutral and would benefit everyone.”
“Sister Su, Li Yuxuan is looking for you. Are you there?” Kong Xiang asked in her mind.
For convenience, Su Ruolan and Cheng Xi shared a tent while they cultivated in the space, leaving Monet to guard their tent; Kong Xiang and Li Yuxuan stayed together since Li Yuxuan had not contracted with Su Ruolan and thus did not know the secret of the space.
“I’m here.” As soon as Su Ruolan heard Kong Xiang calling her, she immediately exited the space.
“Company Commander, I need to discuss something with you,” Li Yuxuan said as he lifted the curtain and got straight to the point.
“Sure, what is it?” Su Ruolan invited them to sit down and poured each of them a cup of water.
“I just heard that H Base has been captured by the Government Army. Commander Ma and the others have all retreated and are missing,” Li Yuxuan said sadly. “I want to go back and take a look.”
“What? What about Qin Zhi Han?” Su Ruolan exclaimed, nearly spilling her tea as she hurriedly asked.
“According to reports, Vice Commander Qin stayed behind to cover the retreat. He’s now in the hands of the Government Army and is likely facing public trial and sentencing—possibly execution,” Li Yuxuan shook his head, his eyes slightly red.
Su Ruolan felt a whirlwind of emotions; it couldn’t be true. That man was highly skilled and had managed to escape danger several times before; he wouldn’t die so easily. However, the Government Army was well-equipped, making it difficult for them to gain an advantage in a direct confrontation.
"Is the news reliable?" Su Ruolan pressed.
"Vice Commander Qin has his own methods of communication and information transmission. I just overheard something from the battle adjutant; it should be fine," Li Yuxuan nodded, looking earnestly at Su Ruolan. "Company Commander, let's go save Vice Commander Qin together. While finding Qi Commander and clarifying my uncle's cause of death is important, we can't just stand by and watch Vice Commander Qin in danger. He has been the best to me in the team. I don't want to regret later, giving up on saving someone alive for a reason."
"Let me think about it," Su Ruolan said, waving her hand to stop Li Yuxuan from saying more as she quietly stood up and walked aside.
Seeing this, Li Yuxuan remained silent, his expression resolute as he turned to leave.
"Uncle Qin, hello, are you there?" Su Ruolan arrived at Vice Commander Qin's tent.
"Come in, Lan girl. Have you eaten? I've got some bread here; have a piece," Uncle Qin warmly invited Su Ruolan to sit down.
"Thank you, Uncle Qin, but I just ate," Su Ruolan replied gratefully for Vice Commander Qin's kindness and focused on asking, "How long do you think it will be until we can see Qi Commander?"
"The situation isn't good right now. We originally planned for five days. But with the outside being so heavily blocked, we'll have to take a detour. If all goes well, it could be a month; if not, who knows," Uncle Qin pondered for a moment before smiling. "What's wrong, Lan girl? You admire our Captain so much; if he knew someone from his hometown was thinking of him like this, I wonder how happy he would be."
"Heh, it's not what you think," Su Ruolan exchanged a few pleasantries before leaving.
Watching the sunset in the distance, the brilliant red divided the ground into two halves: one part a fiery crimson and the other a deep blue-black, mirroring Su Ruolan's current mood.
