“Is the antidote for zombies related to the blood of a girl?” Qin Zhi Han asked in confusion.
“They are like this,” Cyan Flame replied. “Although Milu has a hero complex, she has been misguided. To achieve her own goals, she paves the way with the blood of innocent people, and I cannot agree with that.”
Holding her meal, Qin Zhi Han walked towards Zhang Yu's residence. She encountered Xu Qiubai, who was pressing Milu forward.
“This is a relative of the soldier you killed. You can apologize to him and earn his forgiveness,” Xu Qiubai said to Milu.
Milu glanced at Qin Zhi Han and, seeing a soldier who was somewhat acceptable in appearance, felt less resistance. She lowered her head and softly said, “I’m sorry, I was wrong. Please forgive me.”
“If killing someone can be brushed aside with a simple ‘I’m sorry,’ how can the deceased find peace?” Qin Zhi Han circled around Milu, preparing to leave.
“What do you want me to do? I already know I was wrong. You should at least give me a chance to apologize,” Milu exclaimed, feeling defiant as she noticed Qin Zhi Han’s arrogance.
Qin Zhi Han ignored her and walked away.
Xu Qiubai shrugged and spread his hands. “If he doesn’t forgive you, you might as well go back.”
“I won’t! I will make him forgive me!” Milu declared firmly, looking at Xu Qiubai. “You all said that as long as I apologize and earn his forgiveness, you would let me go. I want to stay by his side until I get his forgiveness.”
“In that case, this is your last chance. Make sure to seize it,” Xu Qiubai said, looking at Milu strangely. “Time is running out.”
“Just now I heard Milu wants to apologize to you; you should go back and rest. My guards have returned as well. It’s enough to treat the girl decently,” Zhang Yu said, walking over to Qin Zhi Han and patting him on the shoulder with a smile.
Qin Zhi Han felt that Zhang Yu was acting strangely lately; his recent behavior seemed inexplicable, causing her to feel a sense of caution within herself.
Watching Qin Zhi Han leave, Zhang Yu suddenly smiled mysteriously, his peach blossom eyes filled with deep meaning.
Recently, the disturbances caused by Zombies had been increasing. Zhang Yu ordered the troops to speed up their advance, heading south.
Qin Zhi Han had been looking for an opportunity to leave, but Milu was clinging tightly to him, and everyone in the unit was already aware of it.
"Brother, that girl is looking for you again? What does she want to help you with this time? Could it be that she has feelings for you?" Crutch Soldier teased.
Qin Zhi Han forced a bitter smile. He had discussed with Cyan Flame and felt that Zhang Yu must be suspicious of his identity; he just couldn't figure out where he had slipped up. The information leaking from the unit indicated that "the trial of Qin Zhi Han is about to take place in Z City." They still had quite a distance to travel to reach G City Base.
"You come out!" Peng Bo felt guilty for not being able to save Milu and, seeing her fawning over Qin Zhi Han, could no longer hide his anger. He directly went to provoke him.
"If you're a man, let's duel. The winner gets Milu, and the loser leaves her forever. Do you dare?" Peng Bo rarely showed such bravado, but his words also provoked Orchid Finger.
"Get lost." Qin Zhi Han glanced indifferently at Peng Bo. Recently, being pursued by Milu, who was infatuated, had made him extremely irritable. Originally, Qin Zhi Han could have easily avoided it, but in the chaos, he didn't realize something was wrong until Milu shielded him from the bullet and collapsed in front of him. Peng Bo stood there shocked as he watched everything unfold. Qin Zhi Han was also momentarily stunned as he helplessly caught Milu's falling body.
In the distance, Su Ruolan happened to arrive with Kong Xiang and others. Using binoculars, she witnessed the commotion at the camp: two soldiers firing guns, one hitting a woman while the other embraced her as she fell. She hadn't expected such a love triangle drama to unfold. Su Ruolan turned her gaze away dismissively and observed the entire camp, wondering where Qin Zhi Han would be imprisoned. This was the best place for a rescue; once they reached Z Base and entered the city, saving him would be far more difficult.
Su Ruolan instructed everyone to wait in place while she planned to sneak into the camp tonight to gather information. After discussing their plan, they began to eat. "Sister Su, we can finally have some hot food! After all this traveling on dry rations, I feel like I'm going to throw up," Cheng Xi complained while enjoying the delicious meal.
"Yeah, it's great following you; we get hot meals and warm water. I've even gained weight; my belly is sticking out now! Just thinking about those people from A Group and their resentful looks when we parted makes me laugh," Li Yuxuan said while eating and chuckling.
Thinking of the unpalatable hard bread of the Huaxia Corps, Kong Xiang couldn't help but smile.
Su Ruolan thought of Uncle Qin and the others, and a warm smile appeared on her face. Uncle Qin and his companions were truly the warmest elders she had encountered since her rebirth. She hoped they would reach Qi Runzhou safely. After saving Qin Zhi Han, she would hurry to catch up with them; as long as she moved quickly, she should be able to catch up.
As night gradually fell, Su Ruolan and Monet merged like phantoms and began to stealthily approach the camp.
At this moment, in Qin Zhi Han's tent, Zhang Yu, Xu Qiubai, and others were present.
"You've really made a mess of things this time. Milu reflected on her mistakes with her life; you should forgive her. Before she recovers, shouldn't you take good care of her?" Zhang Yu looked at Qin Zhi Han with a smile, shaking his head lightly as if amused by the entangled fate between the two.
"Now everyone has seen Milu's sincerity; they all praise this girl for being genuine and pure. You can forgive her now. It seems you two are on a path to being together," Xu Qiubai teased.
"She saved me, so I should feel grateful. Fortunately, the bullet didn't hit any vital spots; she just needs some time to recover. But we can never be together; she has the blood of my brother on her hands, and that cannot be forgotten. Gratitude and affection cannot coexist. She was supposed to be imprisoned for ten years; I will take her place in prison to serve out her remaining time, so we will owe each other nothing in the future," Qin Zhi Han stated decisively.
"Such a beautiful girl can't melt your heart?" Zhang Yu suddenly asked, still in a teasing tone but with an inexplicable hint of pressure.
"Feelings must be mutual. I am willing to take her punishment; this will uphold Young Commander's authority and completely resolve our grievances," Qin Zhi Han replied firmly.
"Alright, since you insist on this. Qiu Bai, take him away," Zhang Yu suddenly dropped his smile and said seriously to Xu Qiubai.
