Su Ruolan finally realized that she had spent over a month in the space, while only a little more than an hour had passed in the real world. She couldn't help but smile shyly, brushing her hair back as she softly said, "I was just a bit tired earlier."
Zhang Yu looked at Su Ruolan's fresh and vibrant appearance, feeling quite moved. The thought of parting ways soon filled him with sorrow. If Qin Zhi Han managed to win her heart first, it would tarnish his own reputation as a charming man. He said earnestly, "Ruo Lan, you must be careful. The world is still chaotic; don't let any man deceive you easily. When choosing a partner, find someone who can ensure your happiness and security for the rest of your life." He looked so serious that one could almost imagine a sign on his forehead saying, "I am a quality man; choose me!"
Su Ruolan's eyes were misty, unsure how the conversation had shifted from resting to discussing men. She was already committed and nearly had two children. In her eyes, this young man before her seemed immature and inexperienced in family matters. Discussing such topics with him felt quite inappropriate. She smiled awkwardly, unsure how to respond.
"You’re wrong; it’s precisely because the world is chaotic that if you meet someone who genuinely cares for you, you should hold onto them tightly and not let them go. It’s better to share burdens than to struggle alone," Qin Zhi Han quickly countered, having understood Zhang Yu's intentions almost instantly. Unbeknownst to Su Ruolan, their gazes were silently competing.
"Ruo Lan, why don’t you come with me to S Base? I promise you’ll live without worries there. Traveling back and forth with Huaxia Army is too exhausting; let Qin Zhi Han handle it himself," Zhang Yu suggested suddenly, feeling increasingly confident in his idea. Not only would it separate them, but he could also take care of her nearby and slowly win her heart over time.
Xu Qiubai clenched his teeth at Zhang Yu's suggestion, his hands gripping the steering wheel so tightly that veins bulged. In a moment of distraction, he failed to avoid a pothole in the road, causing the vehicle to jolt violently and sending Su Ruolan tumbling into Qin Zhi Han's arms.
Qin Zhi Han hadn’t expected Zhang Yu to propose such a thing. He was unwilling to part with Su Ruolan but couldn’t ignore the hardships and risks of their journey. The prospect of a stable life at S Base made him hesitate; this arrangement seemed better for Su Ruolan, and he had no grounds to refuse it. Although Su Ruolan had only fallen into his embrace for an instant, an overwhelming sense of satisfaction surged within him. Perhaps letting go for a moment meant turning away for a lifetime.
"If Ruo Lan is willing to go with me, I swear I will protect her safety with my life," Qin Zhi Han said earnestly as he looked into Su Ruolan's eyes. His deep sense of guardianship was palpable even to Zhang Yu and Xu Qiubai sitting in the front seat.
Su Ruolan found their behavior puzzling. "I’m definitely going to find Huaxia Army; you don’t need to argue about it. As for protection, thank you both, but I believe I can handle myself just fine. Zhang Yu, didn’t I save you a few times?"
Zhang Yu, filled with anticipation, didn’t expect to be publicly embarrassed like this. His once-glorious reputation as an undefeated warrior crumbled whenever she was involved; he had been saved by her numerous times and felt utterly defeated. "You’ve saved me many times; I must repay you somehow—now I’m your responsibility."
What? Saving someone turned into a burden? That made no sense at all! Su Ruolan couldn’t be bothered with Zhang Yu’s childish antics.
Qin Zhi Han watched Zhang Yu struggle and couldn't help but smile slightly. Ruo Lan chose to walk with him, which was great.
While everyone was joking and chatting, Xu Qiubai had already shaken off Peach Blossom's pursuit. They drove into a path and stopped by the roadside. Qin Zhi Han and Su Ruolan got out of the car.
Zhang Yu rolled down the window and looked at Su Ruolan, asking, "Have you really decided not to come with me?"
"Yes." Su Ruolan nodded gently.
"Alright, take care." Zhang Yu didn't look at Su Ruolan anymore, his gaze fixed straight ahead. "Drive."
Xu Qiubai pressed the accelerator, and the car shot forward like an arrow released from a bow, the exhaust fumes choking Qin Zhi Han and Su Ruolan. The two coughed violently, cursing Zhang Yu for being so reckless.
"Next, let's meet up with Li Yuxuan and Kong Xiang," Su Ruolan suggested to Qin Zhi Han. The previous plan had changed, and Su Ruolan had already contacted Kong Xiang in her mind. His spiritual perception ability was the strongest now, capable of reaching a communication range of up to a kilometer. "They're not far from us; they'll arrive soon."
"Okay, let's wait for them here," Qin Zhi Han said as he took a chocolate bar from his pocket, breaking it forcefully into a nine-to-one ratio, handing the larger piece to Su Ruolan. "Here, have some to fill your stomach."
Su Ruolan, always prepared, looked at the large piece of chocolate and raised her hand to decline. "No need, you eat it. I have my own bread." With that, she took out a somewhat hard piece of bread from her backpack.
"You're impressive; you even found coarse grains to eat," Qin Zhi Han remarked with a sidelong glance at Su Ruolan. He rarely made an effort to be nice, yet this girl seemed oblivious to it. He wondered why he couldn't gain her acknowledgment despite feeling that his charm hadn't diminished.
When someone starts caring about another person, they particularly desire their affirmation—good or bad feedback is still attention. However, now it felt almost like indifference, leaving him feeling awkward inside.
"This bread was given to me by Qin Uncle; he's the Vice Captain of Huaxia Corps. He's very kind and cares about us; we hit it off right away," Su Ruolan said as she looked at the bread, recalling Qin Uncle and the happy life they had in A Group. Although material conditions were poor, their spirits were filled with determination. "By the way, I feel like he looks familiar, like someone I know but I can't quite place it," she said, tilting her head thoughtfully.
The two of them concealed their figures, eating their respective meals and patiently waiting for Kong Xiang and the others to arrive.
"Sister Ruo Lan, I have a surprise for you," Kong Xiang suddenly said.
"What could possibly be considered a surprise?" Su Ruolan thought to herself.
After a while, guided by the soul imprint, Kong Xiang and his group appeared, followed by a large crowd, a sea of black figures. This was indeed a big surprise; the team led by Captain Ma Zhang from the Huaxia Four Corps, the Wolf Brigade led by Bai Zhen, and Jackson Wang's team had all come together with Kong Xiang and Cheng Xi.
"Company Commander, we finally found you!" Bai Zhen and Jackson Wang exclaimed excitedly as they hugged tightly.
"Hanzi, it's great to see you're alive!" Captain Ma Zhang said joyfully upon seeing Qin Zhi Han. "Now we can fight side by side again."
"How did you all end up together?" Su Ruolan asked curiously.
"Hehe, it wasn't some rumor we heard. We are the Wolf Brigade, so of course we follow the Company Commander. After receiving the message, we turned back. However, we were slow on our feet; just as we arrived nearby, we heard that the Company Commander was rescued, and then Kong Xiang recognized us," Bai Zhen explained.
"We were the same. Everyone was determined to turn back; we couldn't let you sacrifice alone," Captain Ma Zhang declared passionately.
"Thank you all," Qin Zhi Han said gratefully. "Now let's hurry and pursue Uncle Qin's team; we need to complete our mission."
