The child's face was already a bit bruised, looking quite frightening, as if it were a sign of an impending transformation. 0

As soon as the others saw Su Ruolan touch the child, they immediately surrounded her, declaring, "No one is allowed to leave." 0

"Yan'er, you can't escape. Come back with us," Lean Father said. "Look, you've already caused innocent people to suffer just by coming out. This person will also face hardship because of you." 0

Su Ruolan looked at the couple and the child’s condition. As a mother herself, she couldn't help but interject, "Can I take a look at this child?" 0

"Are you a doctor?" the heartbroken mother holding the child asked in surprise. "Please, you must save my child." 0

Su Ruolan took the child into her arms and infused a bit of healing ability into him. After examining him, she found that all his internal organs were normal and there were no abnormalities; he should not be infected with the Zombie Virus. What could be the cause? As she gently uncovered the thin fabric wrapping the infant, she understood. 0

"I can treat this," Su Ruolan said as she dressed the baby again. 0

"Really?" Yan'er exclaimed joyfully, grabbing Su Ruolan's hand tightly, leaving several red marks on her skin. 0

"Is it true? You can't just say things like that. Let me tell you, deceiving us comes with consequences," Lean Father said, though there was a hint of hope in his voice; he still wasn't fully convinced. "Then you will come back with us." 0

"To avoid any unnecessary misunderstandings, could you please wait a moment? I need to send a message to my companions that I will be visiting the base and will return shortly," Su Ruolan suggested as she noticed the indigenous people crowding around her, wanting to take her and Yan'er through the city gate. 0

"That’s fine," Lean Father nodded in agreement. 0

Su Ruolan left a note for Qin Zhi Han; perhaps this was an opportunity for them to win over the Yan Tribe. 0

Upon arriving at Y Base with everyone, Su Ruolan found everything to be much more desolate than she had imagined. Many ragged yet clean Yan Tribe members looked at her with curiosity and caution. 0

"Someone claims they can cure Feng Ming?" Y Clan Leader arrived upon hearing the news. 0

In Yan'er's room, she still held her child tightly, fearing that if she let go even for a moment, someone would snatch him away and she would never see him again. 0

"You're holding the child like that, and it's uncomfortable for him. Come, give him to me," Su Ruolan said, her heart aching at the sight. 0

"Who do you think you are? A weak woman can't save anyone. Let me tell you, if you have no ability, don't boast. Don't think this will help you escape death. This child is sick; if you come into contact with him, he won't get better, and neither will you," the White-Bearded Elder scrutinized Su Ruolan. 0

"Child, can you really save her? If you can, please do save them. I only have this one child, my grandson," the White-Haired Clan Leader pleaded earnestly. 0

"I will do my utmost. Do you have clean water here? Any medicine?" Su Ruolan nodded and, seeing the deep bond between Yan'er and her child, felt her eyes sting with tears. If her own child were in such a situation, she would be heartbroken. 0

"She's the only one who can't be saved. If there were medicine, would it be up to you to treat him?" the White-Bearded Elder shouted again. 0

"Can you just hold your tongue? Are you really happy that my grandson has no hope?" the White-Haired Clan Elder finally exploded in anger. 0

Seeing his old companion truly angry, the White-Bearded Elder rubbed his hands together and muttered, "I'm not targeting you; I'm just afraid that the greater your hopes are, the greater your disappointment will be. Fine, I won't say anything more; is that alright?" He awkwardly stepped aside. 0

"What we lack now is medicine. If you really have a way, tell me what you need, and I will do my best to prepare it for you," the Y Clan Leader said calmly. 0

"First, take me to see your water," Su Ruolan said as she gently rocked Feng Ming a few times, patted his back, then placed him on the bed and carefully tucked him in before turning to look at the clan leader. 0

"Alright," the Y Clan Leader agreed and nodded at the child's father. 0

"Follow me," Lean Father said as he led Su Ruolan to their water storage pool. 0

Su Ruolan looked around and asked, "Do you all drink this water?" 0

"We draw it from an underground well. There used to be many wells; now only a few still have water while the others have dried up," the father replied with some helplessness. "Actually, many children got this illness before and ended up dying. Yan'er was treated by doctors before; she only has this one child in her life. She was afraid of infection and wanted to terminate the pregnancy, but she refused and fought to give birth. For this past year, she has cherished Feng Ming like her life. Now that he's sick again, it truly weighs heavily on our hearts." The lean man’s eyes glistened with unshed tears. 0

"Brother, I will find a way to cure Feng Ming," Su Ruolan assured him. "Do you still have any medicine?" 0

"Before we used to gather herbs from the mountains or buy them from pharmacies. Now with Han officials relocating, many shops here have closed down. Our shaman fell ill and passed away earlier this year; now everyone who gets sick just tries to endure it themselves. If they can't make it through, they are cremated and their ashes buried in our clan's sacred ground," Lean Father shook his head. Despite his calm demeanor from witnessing so much life and death, he could not suppress the anxiety of losing a loved one. 0

Su Ruolan glanced at the medicine cabinet in the clan's infirmary, checking the few types of Western medicine available before turning to leave. "What did you give Feng Ming before?" she asked as she walked. 0

"It was just the leftover noodles, cooked and made into pancakes. The rice, noodles, and oil from the supermarket were all we had left. Although the Han people have left, we only allowed them to take away one-tenth of the supplies in this city. We are relying on these rations and trying to make them last. At the beginning of the apocalypse, we even traded some golden bird's nest for medicine, but that hasn't been useful since. You know, currency is no longer in circulation." 0

"Let's go; I know where the problem lies." Su Ruolan clapped her hands and stopped dwelling on it. "Take me to the kitchen; I'll cook some porridge for the children first." 0

Looking at the slightly yellowed rice, she asked, "Is this what you all eat? Do the children eat this too?" 0

"Yes, although it's a bit moldy, it should be fine if we make do with it. We always wash the rice carefully," Lean Father replied awkwardly, showing a hint of embarrassment. 0

Without further ado, Su Ruolan took out a bag of rice and a large bottle of mineral water from her backpack. She washed the rice and began cooking porridge. 0

A light aroma gradually wafted out of the kitchen, drawing people in with its enticing scent. 0

White-Bearded Elder happened to pass by outside the kitchen and caught a whiff of the fragrance. He couldn't help but twitch his nose. "Wow, this smell! I thought I would never smell anything like this again." Following the scent, he saw Su Ruolan cooking porridge and felt a bit shy but couldn't bring himself to leave. He awkwardly stood aside, quietly watching her as she kneaded the rice. 0

"It's ready." Su Ruolan tasted a spoonful and then lifted the pot of porridge, heading toward Yan'er's room. 0

White-Bearded Elder smacked his lips eagerly, wanting to taste a bowl but feeling too shy to ask. He could only follow her into Yan'er's room. 0
