Qin Zhi Han struggled to maintain his balance on the first stone, barely finding a stable point. He turned to Su Ruolan and said, "These stones seem to be able to block abilities, Ruo Lan. You must not use your ability; the energy field here is strange."
As Qin Zhi Han took a step toward the second stone, he found it was unstable. The moment he stepped on it, it tilted towards Su Ruolan, causing the first stone to roll back to the side of the path.
Su Ruolan was overjoyed and was about to leap onto the first stone.
"Wait! Hold on a second. I feel like it's not that simple. Let me go through all of them first, then you can come over," Qin Zhi Han said anxiously, quickly stopping Su Ruolan from moving.
"Alright, I'll wait for you," Su Ruolan replied, retracting her foot and quietly standing on this side of the path.
Qin Zhi Han continued his cautious journey across the stones—third, fourth—moving slower with each step. He felt that every movement required precise calculation. He constantly shared his insights with Su Ruolan, who nodded along, committing everything to memory.
Standing on the second-to-last stone, he saw that the final stone was only fifteen meters away from the Energy Stone on the opposite side. If he could reach that last stone, a single jump would take him across. Qin Zhi Han was drenched in sweat; Su Ruolan noticed his trembling silhouette but heard no words from him. Perhaps he was contemplating how to navigate those last two steps.
After what felt like an eternity, Qin Zhi Han finally moved again. He took a bold step forward, but as soon as his foot touched the edge of the last stone, it suddenly flipped over. Without support, Qin Zhi Han plummeted downward and vanished in an instant.
"No!" Su Ruolan gasped in shock at the sudden turn of events, crying out in despair, "Qin Zhi Han!"
The last stone wobbled back into its original position. Su Ruolan stared at the empty floating stone path with deep regret. If she had just insisted a little longer—if she had gone instead of letting Qin Zhi Han take the risk—he wouldn't have been harmed. What would happen if this path led nowhere? If he were stuck halfway up and unable to use his ability, wouldn’t that leave Qin Zhi Han with no way out? He was so young and so talented; the Huaxia Army needed him desperately.
Filled with sorrow, Su Ruolan looked at the floating stone path ahead and seethed with anger. "I will see what strange trickery lies ahead! I refuse to believe I can't get through!"
As she felt a wave of sadness and guilt wash over her, the stones slowly returned to their original arrangement, evenly spaced, as if no one had ever walked on or disturbed them.
"Ruo Lan, calm down a bit. Let's confirm everything before we proceed, okay?" Reset gently reassured her. "Besides, that person doesn’t look like someone who’s short-lived."
"Yes, Master. How about I give it a try?" Monet, sensing Su Ruolan's emotional turmoil and feeling worried, volunteered eagerly.
"No need for that; I'll go alone," Su Ruolan said firmly. "Monet, I don’t want you to get hurt too. It’s enough for us to be together."
Seeing Su Ruolan's agitation, Reset and Monet decided not to press further. It was better this way; after all, they were in this together and didn’t need to separate.
Despite her fluctuating emotions, Su Ruolan remembered the lesson learned from Qin Zhi Han’s sacrifice. With a determined stride, she leaped onto the first stone like an arrow released from a bow. She bent her body forward, shifting her weight downwards as much as possible. Sure enough, the first stone wobbled and collided forward, causing all the floating stones to shift positions like a game of snooker. With her heart racing, Su Ruolan pressed on through the perilous path until she finally reached the third-to-last stone.
