Su Ruolan decisively turned away from the Wood Vine grove.
Kang Wanying quickly ran to Qi Runzhou's side, looking at him with concern as she checked for any wounds on his body. The other soldiers raised their guns, ready to shoot at Su Ruolan.
Qi Runzhou made a gesture to stop the soldiers, grasped Kang Wanying's hand, and shook his head at her. He looked at Su Ruolan's retreating figure and said, "Miss, I don't know what your relationship with Ruo Lan is, but I'm glad that there are still good friends like you who remember her. Although Wan Ying and I have known each other for a long time, our feelings developed after Ruo Lan left. As a man, I cannot avoid responsibility. I hope you can understand."
Su Ruolan felt no desire to scoff; after more than two years of love, having given birth to one child and being pregnant with another, she had sacrificed her life so tragically for him, only to receive a mere three months of remembrance? Was this the ultimate depth of love or the ultimate shallowness?
"Ruo Lan, what's wrong? Is there a misunderstanding between you and Qi Commander?" Qin Zhi Han grabbed Su Ruolan's arm, wanting to hold her back and figure out what was happening.
"Ruo Lan, you also call yourself Ruo Lan? Who exactly are you?" Hearing Qin Zhi Han call the name, Qi Runzhou lost his composure.
Kang Wanying was even more bewildered; she clutched Qi Runzhou's clothing tightly, her veins bulging as she murmured, "Ruo Lan? Impossible, she has been dead for a long time."
Su Ruolan pulled away from Qin Zhi Han's hand, casting a dazed glance at him before walking away without hesitation.
She only knew to leave quickly from this suffocating space. Walking fast, a mist rose before her eyes; why was everything becoming unclear? She must not cry here! No matter how difficult it was, she had to endure and finish this path!
Mechanically moving her feet faster and faster, why did this short distance feel so long?
The Jeep finally appeared before her. Su Ruolan hurriedly opened the car door, got in, turned the ignition on, and accelerated sharply as the vehicle sped away. The scenery outside blurred rapidly behind the car. Why was the window becoming increasingly foggy?
She blinked hard, and for a brief moment, clarity returned, only to be quickly engulfed by a haze once more.
"Sister Ruo Lan, what's wrong?"
"Sister Su, what's wrong?"
"Master, what's wrong?" The voices of Kong Xiang, Cheng Xi, and Monet, who remained in the space for cultivation, suddenly resonated with a deep sorrow from their souls, causing them to feel anxious and concerned.
"Ruo Lan, if you're not feeling well, just cry it out," Reset said with a sigh, sounding wise beyond his years as he gently comforted Su Ruolan. "Crying will help; everything will be alright. I'm here for you."
"Hey, woman, it's just an old man who's twenty years older than you. What's there to be sad about? Any of us young ones are better than him," the awkward Bat King said haughtily.
Finally escaping that suffocating place, Su Ruolan stopped the car on the deserted highway. Unable to control herself any longer, she collapsed onto the steering wheel and cried out loud.
Why is this happening? Is rebirth just to witness disillusionment? Last time it was about annihilation; this time it feels like the destruction of her soul. Her heart ached painfully—back then, even when whipped until blood flowed or when her baby was cruelly taken from her during a brutal operation, even when decapitated and separated from her body, she hadn’t felt pain like this.
What had sustained her then? It was Runzhou's sincere and resolute face and those promises of unwavering loyalty!
But now? Everything felt like a joke! A grand joke!
Su Ruolan suddenly lost her fighting spirit. Why go through rebirth? What meaning does it hold? Everything she cared about turned out to be nothing but her own wishful thinking!
