"Mom, Mom, it's me, Wei. Please wake up and look at me, okay? I miss you so much." The tender voice called out softly again and again to Su Ruolan.
Su Ruolan, who had been lost in a daze, suddenly heard the familiar voice calling her name. It was Rose! Her poor daughter seemed to be calling out to her.
The powerful love of a mother slowly brought Su Ruolan back from her damaged consciousness. She immediately saw a frail girl sitting beside her. The sight made her heart ache uncontrollably. Although Rose had become thin to the point of looking unrecognizable, Su Ruolan still recognized her at once; this was the daughter she hadn't seen for years, the child she had inexplicably lost.
She rushed forward and embraced her, feeling the sharp bones beneath her hands, resembling a skeleton. Su Ruolan couldn't hold back her tears any longer and sobbed, "I finally found you! I found you! Please don't run away again, okay? Don't make Mommy worry about you anymore. Even in hell, even as a ghost, Mommy will protect you."
Although her mother's face still seemed strange, Rose couldn't help but burst into tears upon hearing the familiar tone and words. "Mommy, where have you been? I've been looking for you for so long and couldn't find you. I'm so scared!"
"It's Mommy's fault; I didn't protect you well enough, and you've suffered." Holding Rose tightly in her arms, Su Ruolan felt as if her heart was being torn apart with guilt and self-reproach. She realized how narrow-minded she had been; how could she forget about her two children for the sake of love? She was not just a wife; she was also a mother.
Zhan Yixiao noticed a car approaching from behind and decided to stop.
Qin Zhi Han parked beside them and looked at Zhan Yixiao with determination. "Let Su Ruolan go."
At that moment, Su Ruolan finally heard Qin Zhi Han's voice. Wiping away her tears in surprise, she opened the car door. "Qin Zhi Han, why did you come after me?"
"Ruo Lan, are you okay?" Seeing Su Ruolan regain her senses relieved Qin Zhi Han immensely. He had feared finding her as a mindless zombie; he couldn't bear the thought of such a scene—it would drive him insane.
"I'm fine, thank you." After learning from Reset about everything Qin Zhi Han had done for her, Su Ruolan felt deeply moved. She never expected this man to remain steadfast by her side. Even when he saw her captured by zombies and surrounded by danger, he still came after her alone. This bond was precious and must be cherished.
Qin Zhi Han looked at the pure, tear-streaked eyes and suddenly felt at a loss, unsure of what to do. He inadvertently noticed that Su Ruolan was holding a frail girl in her arms and couldn't help but ask, "Why is this girl so thin? Shouldn't we take her back to the base and give her something to eat?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Qin Zhi Han wished he could bite his own tongue. What was he saying? Su Ruolan had only lost control of her emotions because she had seen Qi Runzhou. How could he have been so dazed as to say something like that? Surely she wouldn't misunderstand him.
"I have food here. I will take good care of her. Thank you so much, Qin Zhi Han. I know you are a good person, but I really don't want to go back. You should leave," Su Ruolan said firmly. "Thank you for knowing me; having a friend like you is my greatest fortune."
"Alright then. Ruo Lan, can I ask you a question?" Qin Zhi Han looked at Su Ruolan, summoning all his courage. "What is your relationship with Qi Commander? I love you, and I just wanted to tell you that. I'm afraid if I don't say it now, I might not get another chance."
"I have no relationship with him anymore. I won't be sad for him again," Su Ruolan replied, shocked by Qin Zhi Han's confession. However, her heart was as calm as still water; she truly couldn't muster any interest in romantic feelings at that moment. "Thank you for loving me, but I'm sorry. I think I will never love again in this lifetime."
Qin Zhi Han looked at Su Ruolan and then at Zhan Yixiao, solemnly asking, "Can you promise me that you won't hurt her?"
"Not for now; it depends on her behavior," Zhan Yixiao replied slowly, word by word.
"Good. Since Ruo Lan doesn't want to come with me, please take care of her for now and ensure she doesn't get hurt even a little bit. I've remembered you; if you dare to harm even a single hair on her head, I will make you regret being a Zombie," Qin Zhi Han warned Zhan Yixiao with an imposing tone.
"Ruo Lan, take care of yourself. I will come to pick you up," Qin Zhi Han said affectionately before leaving without waiting for Su Ruolan to say goodbye.
Zhan Yixiao gave Qin Zhi Han's retreating figure the middle finger. What a piece of work! So arrogant, threatening him about regretting being a Zombie—enough already!
