Holding Wei, Su Ruolan felt as if she had rejoined the world.
"Ruo Lan, you scared me to death just now. I almost thought I was going to enter system hibernation again, waiting for the next host," Reset said, looking frightened and teasing at the same time.
"Sister Ruo Lan, I will never practice in the space again. I wanted to go out and slap that old man a few times, but I couldn't get out. It was terrifying just waiting here," Kong Xiang said, her calm demeanor contrasting sharply with her agitated words, creating a surprising effect.
"Sister Su, is that your daughter? She looks so pitiful. I have plenty of snacks here; let her have some," Cheng Xi said with a face full of sympathy. This girl truly seemed to have it rough.
"Rose, this is bread; it's very soft. You should eat some," Su Ruolan said as she took out a few bags of bread from the space for Rose, careful not to take too much for fear it would upset her stomach.
"Thank you, Mom. I've been with Yi Xiao Brother during this time; he's taken good care of me," Rose replied thoughtfully.
Su Ruolan turned to Zhan Yixiao and said earnestly, "Thank you for saving my daughter."
"No need to mention it. Wei once saved me, and you let me and my mom go once too. So really, I still owe you both," Zhan Yixiao replied casually.
"Given your current state, I can't allow Wei to be with you. I hope you understand," Su Ruolan said as she looked at Wei. Although she felt it was unfair to say so, as a mother, she had to speak up.
"No matter what happens to me, she will always be with me," Zhan Yixiao said suddenly serious. "You can't take away my only pillar of support."
"She is human, and you are a Zombie; you can't let her be with a Zombie."
"What's wrong with her being with the Zombie? She's been living with us for a week. I can control the situation; no one can hurt her."
"Is that so? Then why does she look so thin?"
"Because... because she must have been infected." Zhan Yixiao, who had been arguing loudly with Su Ruolan, suddenly faltered.
Su Ruolan was taken aback, unable to believe what she had just heard. "Can you say that again?"
"When I found her, she was already in bad shape. I tried many methods, and in the end, I fed her a little of my own blood." Zhan Yixiao finally finished in one breath.
"I don't believe it." Su Ruolan trembled as she held Rose tightly, looking seriously into her eyes. It was then that she noticed a faint orange hue in Rose's gaze; she was no longer entirely human.
"I want to take her back." Zhan Yixiao reached out to take Rose into his arms. He only knew that he could fulfill all of Rose's wishes, but he couldn't leave her.
"I don't want to leave Mommy." Rose felt the warmth of Su Ruolan's embrace and was reluctant to part.
"I don't want to leave Rose either." Su Ruolan held Rose firmly. "Where you go, I go. Since Rose hasn't lost consciousness and still remembers I'm her mother, no matter how she changes, I will find a way to heal her."
"Fine, then come along." Zhan Yixiao looked at the reluctant pair. "Just don't regret it; you will bear all the consequences."
Su Ruolan took out a bit of water from her space and gave it to Rose. This life-giving energy carried hope. Su Ruolan watched for any reaction but felt disappointed; there was no effect at all.
Rose's body continued its transformation into a Zombie, albeit at a slow pace.
