Watching Wei's figure fade from view, Zhan Yixiao felt an unbearable pain in his heart, repeatedly telling himself that this was the best choice for both of them. 0

“Mom!” Wei cried, gasping for breath as she threw herself into Su Ruolan's arms. “Mom, I'm so sad. Why doesn’t Yi Xiao Brother want me anymore? Why is he trying to drive me away?” 0

Su Ruolan gently held Wei, patting her back. It seemed that Zhan Yixiao had already made his choice. “Wei, he doesn’t not want you; it’s just a temporary separation. Uncle Yi Xiao has his own matters to attend to.” 0

“It’s not uncle; it’s brother.” Wei looked up with tear-streaked cheeks, stubbornly gazing at Su Ruolan. 0

Seeing Wei's intense obsession, Su Ruolan felt a pang of concern and softly said, “Brother, yes, brother. Wei, we will leave tomorrow. We have our own things to do.” 0

“Mom, will I see Zhan Yixiao Brother again in the future?” Wei looked hopefully at Su Ruolan. “I know he has things to do, and I won’t disturb him. He might be feeling down right now; I’ll wait until he feels better before I go find him.” 0

“You will definitely see him again. Mom believes that as long as there is this longing and you keep each other in your hearts, there will always be a reunion.” Su Ruolan watched as Wei cried until her eyes could barely open and slowly helped her out of her clothes so she could rest comfortably on the bed. She brushed aside Wei's bangs gently. “Sleep now; when you wake up, everything will be better.” 0

“Okay, Mom, I believe you. I also believe Yi Xiao Brother won’t abandon me; I’ll be even better.” After all, Wei was still a child. She closed her eyes, still sniffling a bit but gradually calming her breathing until she fell asleep. Su Ruolan sat by the bed, gazing at her daughter’s pure face and sighed softly. 0

A wall separated the two parties. Outside the wall, Zhan Yixiao slowly slid down to sit against it. 0

Seeing Wei run out in tears made him uneasy; he couldn’t help but follow her outside. Hearing the conversation between Su Ruolan and Wei made his heart ache painfully, yet he felt powerless. She was still so young and had endless possibilities ahead of her. Life would bring many exciting encounters; why should she stay with someone like him who had no future? Time was long; she would eventually meet peers her age and gradually forget about him—forget that there once was such a significant friendship. 0

The thought that one day Wei might not even remember him at all made Zhan Yixiao press his hand against his heart. It was strange; he was genuinely feeling heartache again. Had the pain begun to feel surreal? How long had it been since he felt any emotional stirrings? He thought all feelings would fade like words in a book, yet they were becoming increasingly vivid. This torment felt like a long-lost blessing from a past life—like the gospel of a holy master. 0

Zhan Yixiao was astonished to realize that this pain was becoming more and more real—not something imagined at all—so much so that he had to bite down on his lip tightly to suppress it. 0

No, could it be that the mutation is about to begin again? Zhan Yixiao immediately stood up and hurried back to his residence. 0

Upon reaching the door, he commanded his subordinate, Zombie Captain, “If I don’t open the door, don’t let anyone in.” 0

Then he pushed the door open and rushed inside. 0

His body began to heat up and swell. It had been so long since he felt the veins in his body flowing; it felt like they were about to boil over, ready to explode. Zhan Yixiao used all his strength to combat the heat within him, leaving him no time for anything else. 0

Wei had never wished so fervently for the darkness to last forever. That way, she would never have to leave with her mother again or truly say goodbye to Zhan Yixiao. 0

However, no matter how much this world mutated, the sun rose and set as usual. 0

When she pleaded with Su Ruolan to take her to Zhan Yixiao, Wei hoped deep down that he would want to keep her from leaving. After all, he was a very important figure in her life—perhaps even more important than family—but right now, she found it hard to understand what being more important than family truly meant. 0

“Yi Xiao Brother, are you inside?” Upon reaching the door, she was stopped by the loyal Zombie Captain, making communication difficult. It only uttered a single word: “No.” 0

“Yi Xiao Brother, it’s me, Wei. I’m leaving today. I just want to see you one last time before I go. Please come out.” Wei shouted at Zhan Yixiao's door. 0

There was no response from within. 0

“Yi Xiao Brother, do you really not want to see me again? I will be leaving; I just want to see you one last time before I go.” Wei repeated loudly. 0

Still, there was silence from inside. 0

Su Ruolan stood by, watching her daughter's stubbornness and persistence with a twinge of heartache, yet she did not intervene. Although Wei was only a few years old, she had experienced much in life and was relatively mature for her age. Su Ruolan believed that she understood what she was doing. Even if she could not grasp the deeper meanings, Su Ruolan still wanted to offer her the greatest tolerance and respect within her capabilities. 0

Wei stood at the door of Zhan Yixiao, from the first rays of sunlight illuminating the earth in the morning, to the sun reaching its zenith, to the shadows stretching westward, to the moon rising among the branches, to the crescent moon hanging high, and back to the interplay of light and shadow. 0

After a sleepless night, Wei stubbornly waited at the door and finally spoke in a hoarse voice, "Mom, take me away." 0

Su Ruolan and Qin Zhi Han had also spent the night awake, standing silently behind Wei. Though they felt heartache, they offered their utmost silent support. Hearing Wei's words brought them comfort as they wrapped her in thick clothing and carried her away. 0

Nestled in Su Ruolan's embrace, Wei's expression seemed to have matured significantly overnight. Yet deep inside, she felt sorrow as a tear slipped down her cheek. 0
