Standing outside the door of Zhan Yixiao, the Zombie Captain remained expressionless. He had lost all human emotions; he was merely confused, and even that fleeting thought passed quickly. All he remembered was his leader's command: if the leader did not open the door, no one was allowed to enter.
Inside, despite the extreme pain, Wei's voice could still be heard. Especially when she expressed her desire to say goodbye properly, Zhan Yixiao felt a surge of anxiety. He desperately wanted to go out; he didn't want to disappoint Wei. So he fought with all his might, wanting to recover quickly, even if he was gravely injured. He struggled against this sudden influx of energy, but it felt as though he were trapped in a cocoon— the harder he fought, the deeper he sank.
Sensing the presence outside the door, Zhan Yixiao finally decided to stop blindly pushing forward. He calmed himself and began to sort through his energy channels layer by layer. When the tangled connections were found, everything started to fall into place. As he focused his mind, Zhan Yixiao gradually entered a state of flow. When it all finally came to an end, Zhan Yixiao felt that his body was different from before; he could even smell different scents. At first, it was quite unfamiliar. Imagine someone who could only sense the metallic smell of blood suddenly catching a whiff of fresh air that was slightly sweet and sour— it was intoxicating. After becoming a Zombie, although he occasionally took long baths after regaining consciousness, he had no idea that he still carried a foul odor. How could Wei stand being close to him? How could Su Ruolan not find him repulsive?
He was actually beginning to regain human senses. The sound of thumping— what was that? Zhan Yixiao looked down to find the source; it was his heart—his own heart had started beating again. What was happening? This couldn't possibly be energy from Seven Stars Aligned. Never mind that for now; he needed to see Wei and share this good news with her. He had regained his rationality.
Filled with joy, Zhan Yixiao opened the door, ready to share his happiness with them.
The door swung open, but there was no sign of her at the entrance.
"Leader, you’re out!" The Zombie Captain looked at Zhan Yixiao with excitement, noticing how much more powerful this captain seemed compared to before—his eyes filled with admiration; he was so strong.
"Wei, where is Wei?" suppressing his disappointment, Zhan Yixiao asked.
"She just left. That girl stood at the door all night," the Zombie Captain replied nonchalantly.
Just left! A thought crossed Zhan Yixiao's mind as he immediately dashed out at high speed, moving like a straight line.
The Zombie Captain's mouth dropped open in astonishment. Wow, the leader's speed has increased too! So strong!
With incredible speed, Zhan Yixiao used nearly all his strength to burst out of the command post and raced toward the city gate. The Zombies in the city saw Zhan Yixiao sprinting and assumed something significant had happened; they instinctively followed behind him in a frenzy—one became two, two became four, four became sixteen, and soon there were countless others joining in—a spectacular scene unfolded.
The city gate was in sight, but with each step closer, disappointment grew, and her heart felt colder. Why was there nothing? With a sudden leap, Zhan Yixiao ascended the city wall, gazing into the distance. Two Jeeps had become mere black dots, slowly fading from view.
"Goodbye, Wei." Zhan Yixiao was momentarily lost in thought. Though filled with regret, his resolve strengthened. Wei, Brother Yi Xiao promises you, I will get better. We will meet again.
Inside the Jeep, Wei suddenly turned her head as if sensing something. Unfortunately, the vehicle turned a corner, leaving the H Base's city wall behind.
"Mom, did you hear anything just now? It sounded like Brother Yi Xiao was calling me," Wei asked suspiciously.
"I didn't hear anything. Wei, if you and Yi Xiao are meant to be, you will definitely meet again," Su Ruolan gently reassured her.
"Yes, Mom, I believe you." Wei nodded and leaned slowly against Su Ruolan, silently promising herself, Brother Yi Xiao, I will do my best.
