At this moment, there was no time to care about Ouyang En's absolutely misunderstood words. Wang Chao's focus was entirely on the dozens of flailing tentacles. The Tentacle Monster had many tentacles sliding on the ground as it moved, not attacking Wang Chao directly. However, compared to the previous situation where three people were distracting the tentacles, Wang Chao now faced the threat of all three at once! 0

The tentacles did not strike all at once but in a sequence. Wang Chao had already thrown one of his knives and was left with only one. He could only desperately swing the knife, creating a circular barrier in front of him to prevent the tentacles from finding an opening. Yet, Wang Chao knew that such intense movement would soon tire him out, while the Tentacle Monster showed no signs of fatigue, like an impossible perpetual motion machine, with its tentacles hovering in the air, occasionally seeking opportunities to stab at him. 0

As Wang Chao swung and retreated, suddenly he stumbled; a rock blocked his path. Cursing inwardly that fate seemed intent on his demise, he tripped over the stone. To maintain his balance, his arms instinctively adjusted, causing his circular defense with the knife to break apart at that critical moment. 0

Unlike ordinary Zombies that lacked intelligence—charging forward even if their heads were smashed as long as their brains remained intact—this tentacle Zombie was clearly a sentient being. At that moment, Wang Chao's defenses crumbled completely. The tentacles lunged toward him, and he hurriedly swung his knife while deciding to accelerate his backward fall. 0

Several tentacles were severed, but many others darted past Wang Chao's head. If he had hesitated for just another second, the outcome would have been dire. Lying on the ground, Wang Chao did not relax; instead, he rolled sideways as the tentacles stabbed into the ground, pursuing his body relentlessly. The tips of those tentacles were extremely hard, carving deep grooves into the earth. 0

Wang Chao executed a backflip and sprang up. Before he could make any further moves, more tentacles shot out toward him too quickly to evade. Three tentacles pinned down his arms and right hand holding the knife. Pain surged through him as the knife clattered to the ground with a sharp metallic sound. One tentacle lunged forward, aiming directly for Wang Chao's heart! 0

In an instant, that mysterious power surged within him once again! 0

With a roar that echoed far and wide, Wang Chao's anger reached Yang Mengying and her companions who were rushing toward him. 0

With a "sizzle," several tentacles were torn away as blood gushed from three wounds. The tentacle aimed at Wang Chao's heart was suddenly caught in his grasp! With a powerful yank, he pulled the Tentacle Monster forward a step. The creature seemed to sense something different about Wang Chao in that moment; it reduced its moving tentacles on the ground and slowed down, but its attack range expanded dramatically. 0

Immediately, dozens of tentacles lunged toward Wang Chao. 0

Wang Chao moved fluidly, dodging left and right as countless tentacles failed to touch him even slightly. His speed had clearly surpassed human limits! Yet when one looked into Wang Chao's eyes, they would see chaos; his black pupils gradually turned red as if they might bleed! During this battle, Wang Chao and the Tentacle Monster had moved far from the Inpatient Building, so no one witnessed this bizarre scene. 0

If anyone had been watching at that moment, they would have seen Wang Chao walking atop the writhing tentacles! 0

In an instant, Wang Chao found himself standing before the true form of the Tentacle Monster. He gazed upon its grotesque and shrunken head, which was mismatched to its three-meter tall body. Its hollow eye sockets were filled with darkness, devoid of anything. Its mouth, however, split open to the roots of its ears, revealing rows of sharp teeth! Wang Chao formed his hand into a blade and swiftly slashed at the Tentacle Monster's neck. 0

Countless tentacles retracted, forming a shield in front of Wang Chao's hand blade. The tentacle shield, which could not even be scratched by a kitchen knife, was surprisingly cut through by Wang Chao's strike! Yellow fluid splattered everywhere as Wang Chao, in a state of mindless fury like a beast driven mad, brought his fingers together like an arrow and aimed directly at the Tentacle Monster's head! The Tentacle Monster seemed to sense the threat of death; all its tentacles lunged at Wang Chao! 0

"Thud!" A sound echoed, followed by numerous "thuds," the sound of blades piercing flesh. 0

Wang Chao was instantly flung backward, countless wounds gushing blood like a waterfall. In his hand was something greasy—the Tentacle Monster's brain! 0

As he flew through the air and crashed to the ground, the Tentacle Monster also fell heavily beside him. 0

"Damn it," Wang Chao thought. "Am I really going to die here?" 0

Perhaps it was Liu He's words that made him decide to stay, but without Liu He’s encouragement, would he have truly abandoned them? Suddenly, memories flooded back—he recalled the sunlight that shone down when he had combed Yiyi's hair that morning and sent her off to kindergarten. He remembered the delicious meals waiting for him on the table when he returned home and Yang Mengying's mischievous smile. He thought of Liu Xiaoxiao feeding him medicine while complaining about it when he was sick. 0

He had always been alone since childhood; even when he went to his grandfather's house, he felt isolated. He had no companions, no friends—nothing at all. Thus, deep down, he only knew how to care for himself. Liu He had said he was naturally cold-hearted; perhaps she was right. 0

Yet, Wang Chao still chose to stay. He knew he might die; he understood he was no match for the Tentacle Monster, but he remained nonetheless. 0

At that moment, Wang Chao felt life slipping away from him bit by bit. He looked at the already lifeless Tentacle Monster in the distance and at the countless wounds on his own body from which blood flowed incessantly. He smiled—a wide grin—and as laughter escaped his lips, blood coughed out from his mouth. He laughed while coughing and simultaneously spat blood. Looking around, there was no one—no zombies—nothing at all. 0

He remembered being a child alone in the backyard of an orphanage, watching the breeze sway the grass just as it did today—quiet and lonely. 0

In winter, the breeze finally blew in; it seemed that snowflakes began to fall from the sky. Wang Chao closed his eyes. 0

"Even someone like me has people I want to protect until death." Wang Chao felt no sadness, no resentment, only an absolute calmness. A few faces floated through his mind, but when exactly had they settled in his heart? 0

"I'm sorry, Liu Xiaoxiao, I'm coming down to be with you now." 0
