At that moment, Xiaocao finally understood the meaning of Wang Chao's previous words. She shook her head helplessly and said, "Your jokes aren't funny!" Wang Chao nodded noncommittally and then asked, "How are you planning to get me back? By car? Helicopter?" He was quite interested, noticing that Xiaocao seemed completely unconcerned about the zombies outside. Before Wang Chao could finish speaking, he felt a sharp pain in his head. Everything around him became blurry, and his eyes grew heavier until he knew nothing at all.
"Damn, my head hurts." Wang Chao rubbed his head, feeling as if a bolt of lightning had struck his brain. He immediately sat up.
Sitting on the ground, Wang Chao looked around in confusion and realized that he was in the same spot where he had previously faced the Tentacle Monster in a mutual destruction. The corpse of the Tentacle Monster lay not far away, just as he had seen it before. There were still no zombies in sight. Unable to contain himself, Wang Chao shouted, "What the hell is going on!" Suddenly, he recalled the story of Zhuang Zhou dreaming of a butterfly. Was Xiaocao merely a dream he had seen, or was his life here just a dream? He could no longer tell.
This was truly like an old African man jumping high—scaring him out of his wits.
Wang Chao hurriedly stood up. Had only a moment passed? He walked over to the tentacled corpse and observed it closely for a while but couldn't discern anything unusual. After all, he had only caught a distant glimpse of it before; now it looked no different than it did then. He recalled Xiaocao's words and felt an air of mystery surrounding him.
However, the urgent matter was that Wang Chao needed to find Yang Mengying and the others first. He glanced at his new clothes and finally confirmed that he had indeed encountered Xiaocao and wasn't just dreaming. With this thought in mind, he quickly checked his right hand. On his pinky finger was a black ring that could hold a cubic meter of items.
Eager to try it out, he wondered if he needed to say some kind of incantation to make it work; otherwise, how could he put things inside? So, Wang Chao raised his finger toward a stone in the distance and shouted, "Enter!" Nothing happened. "Come in!" he tried again, still no response. "By order of urgency!" Yet again, there was no reaction.
"Could this be a joke?" Wang Chao thought. It couldn't be; if Xiaocao were joking around, then pigs could fly. No, it must be that his method was wrong. But how exactly was this thing supposed to be used? This definitely deserved a bad review—no instruction manual at all! Frustrated, Wang Chao slammed his right hand down onto the ground.
He felt the ring hit something on the ground—it turned out to be a pebble. Instinctively imagining the pebble entering the Spatial Ring, suddenly something flashed before his eyes. He distinctly felt that the pebble had entered the Spatial Ring; this sensation was indescribable. Wang Chao instantly became excited!
This is amazing!
Wang Chao enveloped the pebble with his consciousness and imagined it coming out of the Spatial Ring. A miraculous scene unfolded as the pebble landed on the ground with a soft sound. "Damn! This is like a cow flying on an airplane—it's incredible!" With this item, who needed a backpack? However, one cubic meter didn't seem like much; he wondered if it could be upgraded later.
Nevertheless, Wang Chao was already very satisfied; this was practically a cheat! He didn't know if others had something similar, but he knew that he couldn't tell anyone about this; otherwise, it would surely bring him trouble. Realizing this, Wang Chao quickly transformed his uncontrollable excitement into an icy expression in just an instant.
Wang Chao had no idea where Yang Mengying and the others had gone, but he felt he should first check the hospital. With that thought in mind, he headed towards the Inpatient Building. Wang Chao walked quickly, aware of his own pace. His life-and-death battle with the Tentacle Monster seemed to have awakened a mysterious power within him, a power that did not dissipate like before but lingered on, and he could feel it distinctly.
That power gave him confidence; even if he encountered a horde of Zombies, he believed he could escape.
Wang Chao strolled into the Inpatient Building. It wasn't long before he arrived, but the front door was still tightly locked. The guards inside widened their eyes upon seeing him, clearly recognizing that this man was still alive. "Open the door!" Wang Chao said expressionlessly. He had no fondness for these people, though he knew if he were in their position, he would likely make the same choice.
The people inside remained silent, and more gathered around the door, evidently recognizing Wang Chao.
"I'll say it again: open the door!" Wang Chao's voice turned cold.
Still, there was no response from inside.
With a loud crash, glass shards flew everywhere. Many inside were cut by the flying fragments, yet none screamed; they were frozen in fear. It took them a moment to realize that the person outside had shattered glass that even Sniper Rifle bullets couldn't penetrate!
A fist-sized hole appeared in the glass! Surrounding it were cracks that extended and elongated as they heard the continuous sound of cracking glass. Soon, the entire pane shattered into countless pieces on the ground.
Wang Chao stepped forward towards the crowd, their expressions more horrified than when they had seen the Tentacle Monster. "Have those who were with me come here?" he asked.
No one spoke.
"Are you all mute?" Wang Chao said lightly, but to their ears, it felt as cold as winter's wind.
"They came back but left again," a middle-aged man said, unable to suppress his trembling body.
"Where did they go?" Wang Chao asked.
"West. It seems we haven't found the person we were looking for!" the man replied. "They went west!"
Wang Chao nodded, stepped back, and headed west.
"Monsters, monsters!" As soon as Wang Chao walked out, several women could no longer stand and sat down on the ground. The men around them also showed expressions of fear, unsure of what to say.
